How much UP/DOWN play should there be in the part the dough hook hooks into (approx 3" diameter, viewable straight up looking from the inside of the bowl)? In my mixer there's about 1/4" of play up and down.

Hello from Down Under. An excellent video thanks, with some accidentally extra-helpful bits, like the broken "cutaway" cover for extra insight :) I got intrigued (and involved) by a post on a local Nextdoor (social media) forum, from a lady who was looking for the resistor in her vintage MIxmaster. Different here in Australia because of the 240V supply. And of course, impossible to source any more. I've been idly searching (and researching) the problem (being vintage myself, ha ha - and a radio restoration nut) For the life of me have not been able to figure out what that resistor does in the governor mechanism. The capacitor is explainable (I guess) to stop the switch arcing. But the resistor? Can someone enlighten me? Haven't been able to find any circuit explanations anywhere. And thanks for your great videos. The detailed and pleasant walk-throughs are a delight to a restoration fan. All the best from Melbourne. ☮🙏

That silver box is a condenser and they should be removed. They no longer serve a purpose but are the reason these mixers can shock you

Good day! I stubbled onto your video after purchasing a sunbeam and I was wondering what do you degrease your parts with? As well as what type of grease do you put back into your mixer? Also where do you get replacement parts for a mixer like this say like a new capacitor or resistor? Thank you for any help you can offer!

I know this is an old video but I just got one recently to restore, similar issue, it spins io fine (admittedly the last few speeds are redundant as it gets to 6 and goes full pelt) but it won't turn off, it'll stop spinning (most of the time) but the motor just hums and then the resistor starts smoking - changed cap and resistor and the issue remains - so frustrating.

Omg, so excited to find your site because I acquired a used KitchenAid k5ss and besides needing cleaning I want to replace the speed lever as it is bent and stuck on 10. Just wondering if I need to undo all of the stuff that you're doing to get to the lever to replace it?

In mine the thermal switch was burned up. I replaced it with a switch that resets itself. Sunbeam service told me it cannot be fixed but it works like new again.

Is there anywhere that sells replacement burrs?

I have a 3C and it needs fixed. I don’t have the skill, but it is smoking so I unplugged it right away and the back cover needs hammered out to fit correctly anyway you can repair I will pay.

Where can I get parts to restore my Sunbeam Mixmaster model 1? The motor is a little weak and I might have to have it rebuilt

Oster made 2 types of electric motors on their blenders since brand has adquired by Sunbeam (Previously Oster had another type of motor) The first one is this motor, which was continued producing in Venezuela, while the second one is the American version (New version) where screws holes at housing are no longer wide and the carbon brushes carriers are distributed diagonally instead of horizontally.

How does one adjust the beater paddle height on this model? I see two screws on the stem, are they the adjustment screws?

Loving your videos, They are very helpful and much appreciated. I have a similar mixer to this one from my grandmother that I would love to refurbish and re-grease but I cannot pop the caps off to release the gears. I have seen another video where you pry them off with a screw driver but I cannot manage to get mine off. Are the caps designed to be re-used or were they replaced when serviced. I know you are no longer doing these videos and I am not sure if you monitor this site at all anymore but I thought I would ask here anyhow. Thanks for your time.

That sure looks like a K5, inside and out. Except the cord replacement is a PITA. I wonder how many parts actually interchange.

Thanks for your great video on the A 9. Now I'll be able to trouble shoot mine. Oily beans are not good for a A 9. I'll use my mini mill for the oily beans from now on.

Your camera turned off just at the point I had a question about. How much grease do I put in the grease pit?

Found nearly the exact same model but mine won't go thru different speeds. Is it just an adjustment issue or do I need a new control plate? Happen to sell those if it is the plate issue?

That screw is to keep the burs from grinding against each other on the finest setting.
