  • Hi guys, hope everyone is doing well! I have 2 Kitchenaids I am going to be restoring that I had committed to a long time ago, but am just now getting to do. I know a lot of you had asked how I was doing, and I really appreciate that and all the well wishers too! Thank you guys :) So I am using this video to give you an update. I dont usually talk about personal stuff, so it is a bit awkward so bear with me. Anyways, this 3b was restored to original colors, white and black, and runs very well. The owner wanted to keep the original cord so that was re-used. I have one more video coming up for the 2nd Kitchenaid, it is a K4-B and I will go into a lot more detail of that mixer.
    I do occasionally post some stuff on my other channel, either vehicle or computer related content, so if that interests you or you want to say hi to me there, or subscribe for support I will leave the link below. Thanks again!

    I went through years and years before I found out what was causing my own health problems. It wasn't diet related like yours, but wow, do I understand how frustrating it is to live without answers. I got away from UA-cam for a while, and I had subscribed to your channel (love your videos) and just checked up on your page and found this.
    I know it's six months after you made this, but I really wish you the best on finding the answers, and I admire you not giving up and looking for underlying causes, not just treating symptoms. Any doctor who can help you with that is worth their weight in gold.

      Thank you Mike! I have been improving every day, feeling much better and can see the other side now :) There was a combination of reasons that made me stop, we are trying to move in teh spring, if I can get some decent shop space I may start again, but I have really been considering moving up to restoring vintage campers next.. we shall see lol

      Vintage Mixers and More At least you have youth on your side! My father always said “Don’t get old”! Awesome how you ripped into that 3B while giving your whole health history with analysis and not missing a beat... The campers will bring you more money of course but there aren’t as many around and people need to have big cash for you to begin work. Maybe you could train somebody and do both! Best wishes to you and yours.

    I love your videos, they are comprehensive and easy to follow. I have two kitchenaid mixers that need some TLC. I feel more confident about taking them apart to do some general cleaning and maintenance. Thanks for your informative videos and sharing your medical struggles. I too have same symptoms and have had every test that can be performed without any definitive results. I sometimes would think It’s I all in my head but how crazy do you have to be to imagine a horrible stomachache,lol. I have tried every diet out there with limited results. For myself , I have a harder time digesting and tolerating bread, beef, processed meats and dairy. Might want to be tested for H pylori if you haven’t already. It can also be medication. I drink a lot of water with every meal and take probiotics it helps some but it’s no miracle cure. I hope you find your cure and continue to make videos.

    Gosh your granddaughter is cute! And good baby too while you are working. I understand about trying to find out on your own what is causing health problems. I've done all kinds of diets from AIP to anti-inflammatory to try to figure out what triggered Grave's Disease and how to get it into remission. The only meat I can eat without any problems so far is wild game. There must be something farmers feed chicken and ranchers feed beef because I have a reaction even if it says no antibiotics on the label. Good luck on your quest.

    You should do H. Pylori bacteria breath test and Iodine Serum Plasma blood test. Iodine is not only for thyroid but also produces stomach acid. Most doctors don't test for iodine deficiency. Also, different vitamin B's help digestion since they are acids.

    Hi. Listening to your symptoms it could be gallstones and/or liver problems. I had hepatitis years ago and what you describe is what it felt like. Then 20 years later I had gallstones that were traveling to my pancreas. Dr sent me home from the emergency room saying it was indigestion. I almost died and the next er visit they finally did an ultra sound of my liver and found the gallstones. Protein is hard for your liver to digest, especially beef, if there are any liver problems. Check that out. Good luck.

    • @vintagemixersandmore1666
      @vintagemixersandmore1666  4 роки тому

      Thanks! I had been checked for all of that, I think pancreas or gall bladder was one of their first suspicions. It is turning out to be more along the lines of a sever intolerance to meat from grain fed animals for some reason, and even grain fed dairy. Its teh strangest thing, and no one has yet to be able to explain why, but I am working it out through diet. I appreciate the tips though!

    So good go see you back! Did they check your ANA (antinuclear antibodies)? That can show up autoimmune diseases such as lupus and scleroderma - those diseases can show up in the wackiest ways. That is the only thing I can think of. But I'm so glad that they have ruled out as much as they have. I hope you are 100% very, very soon.

      Hi Thomas! I added the link to my other channel in the description ( ua-cam.com/users/rmarglevideos ) . I had grown pretty frustrated with the resistor situation for the sunbeams, they are impossible to find, and no one is making a direct replacement, I was using a 180 ohm 5 watt wirewound resistor made by Dale (company name) that would fit inside the original resistor housing, but it still had limitations, like I had to up the slowest speed a little to keep them from overheating. If someone knew how to make a direct replacement they would be sitting on a gold mine. Good luck to you if you go back to restoring mixers, let me know if you do I will add you to my referral list! Let me know what you want to see regarding PC's I am always looking for ideas. Thanks!

    Hi Rick, I really like your videos as I just discovered them just the other day looking for help on refurbing my old family Sunbeam Mixmaster Model 9 mixer... Your videos are so complete and informative...plus your technicians work ethic is impeccable...I'm an old Navy Electronics Technician and I really recognized some of the traits of a Navy ET in your videos.
    I do have one question on how to refurb the oil wick on the back end of the mixer.... Do any of your videos cover that? If not what should I do.. The wick is frayed on the end that meets the shaft area and there is about,there is two inches of wick that was in the can that is covered. Do I just pull some of the wick that is in the can to make up for the frayed end?
    Also, I did see the video that you were mentioning the trouble you were having with your hands.. I suffer from the same issues of nueropathy in my hands and feet.. I know how frustrating the condition is...Thank you for the wonderful UA-cam channel... Very well done and easy to follow...Blessings in the future...

    • @vintagemixersandmore1666
      @vintagemixersandmore1666  4 роки тому +1

      Thanks Ed! I do believe you are right, I probably didnt cover the oil wick in the rear of the machines with that type of speed control system, I apologize. There are 2 wicks, one is a cotton piece like yarn, and the other is a felt piece. The cotton piece is the one that goes to the shaft and it does tend to fray. You may be able to pull some out as it is coiled up under the cap that covers the other end and holds the oil in, but be careful it doesnt break or pull too much out. You can use something small ( I use a small allen wrench) to stuff the end back in the hole that goes to the shaft. When you look inside where the shaft would go you should see the wick just peeking through. Sometimes they can be a real pain, I have had to cut new felt wicks out of a piece of felt before if the old one was so dry and crumbly.
      The issue with my hands does get very frustrating, you take for granted how useful touch sensitivity is until you no longer have it.

      Hi Rick, I had a rather detailed response ready to send to you and it just disappeared... So I'll start again....
      Thank you for your quick response. I sending you some pix of the felt wick and the yarn wick... I think I have enough of the yarn to extend from the can to work in the shaft end area... I only need about 1/4" or so.. And the felt wick is still healthy so it should be good. So do I fill the reservoir with oil before I put the cap back on? I see the the reservoir is fed by the Oil hole on top of the mixer body, right? and should I oil the felt also? I should be good to go. Also in the degreasing of the shaft compartment, is it Ok to use regular engine degreaser and just rinse the area thoroughly before putting the food grade lube on the gears? And I'm going to use good ol' 3in1 oil for everything else. Thank you so much for the great videos on mixers and Now I'm looking at your car videos as I old hot rodder from California. I'm praying for the Lord's healing mercies for your ongoing health issues.
      Blessings, Ed Koops

      Hi Ed! Im sorry I just saw this comment, for some reason youtube decided to put a bunch of comments under spam and I just found them. I will definitely check out your channel! As far as degreasing, you have to be careful if you are keeping the original finish, if so then I just use dish soap and water. Any chemical degreaser may ruin the finish.
      Thanks!!!

    Hi, Rick. What are the consequences of leaving out that little tiny plastic piece that goes in that long spring up against the armature? I've taken apart 4 different mixers and I've been unable to locate one on the end of the spring or in the grease. I'm running out of model twelves. Are they in other models as well if I have to have one? Check out the "World's only 5 color Sunbeam model 12" I posted on Vintage mixers and small appliances. Thanks.

      Hey Jim, you will find that same part in the model 10 and 11 also. It will run kinda rough without that little plastic piece, the armature will bounce back and forth giving it that roughness while running.

    Hi Rick. I'm having second thoughts on the way I adjusted the speed on the model 12. I don't have any idea which one of your videos elaborates on how fast the number one speed should be to establish the rest. Is it in the description? I have a vague memory of something about you placing a finger against a beater to count the revolutions. Per seconds, minutes? Thanks.

      Hey Jim, it is different with the sunbeams, the 60 RPM on speed 1 is for the kitchenaids, measured at the planetary. Here is a guide from Dave on setting the speed for the sunbeams, I just went by ear and by watching the beaters. www.davesrepair.com/DIYhelp/DIYMixmasterSpeedCalibration.htm

    Hello! I'm currently restoring this same model and there's a couple things I haven't been able to find any answers to. Will any of the modern bowls fit it, or can it only use the old beehive bowl? I have the original beater, but since you can't use any modern attachments on it I'm not sure if modern bowls will fit. I'm replacing the power cord with a new three-pronged one, where's the best place to attach the ground wire?

    • @vintagemixersandmore1666

      Hi, thats awesome!! You cant use a modern bowl with it, or even any of the older full size bowls as far as I know. I always attached the ground cord to the threaded rod that secures the coil into place, it is easily tucked out of the way from the fan blade, and can be held in place by the nut on the shaft, between the nut and coil.
