Beautiful job; fun to watch your work.
Really enjoyed this video...hope you make more!
I've enjoyed watching all your mixer videos. Good luck with your next endeavor.
wonderful job! hope you get back to this again at some point!
Beautiful
Thank you for this video, I just found out about the screw that adjusts the height of the head. 6 years owning my mixer, I always thought the whip was too far away from the bottom of the bowl... loll
I inherited this model from my grandmother and it's been in similar working condition as the one in this video. I know it probably needs it's lube changed, but now the bowl has started leaking at the base, the inside has been nicked a few times (I think the beater is too low) and it rusts inside occassionally. Sadly I'm not seeing much of a future for my old K4-B. I wish I could restore it like the one in this video, but I'm also looking for a kitchenaid with a bigger bowl (5 quart). I'm also missing the beater for my K4-B as well. I feel bad wanting to get rid of it, considering it still runs fine, has that 'old appliance' smell to it when it runs.
Thanks for this very helpful video. I have successfully cleaned the K4 B I inherited from my mom. One question - I think the rear bushing is going. I have scoured the internet for parts but have come to a dead end. Any leads you might have would be appreciated!
hi man really appreciate you putting up tutorials. gonna watch them but wanted to know if you've refurbed a 'Kitchenaid Heavy Duty Mixer 4.8L 5KPM5' model? are they basically all the same and would your tutorials cover this model? I've gotten hold of one in very good condition but its not too old. was hoping to respray a nice colour and gift it to my sister for her wedding.
I got an old kenwood chef last year for free basically and it blew a component after first dough run....rewired all components and its working great now. feels nice getting old things working again
I’d like my KITCHENAID to be cleaned. The outside is good so no work there. After
running it starts to make a noise and I think I smell electric. I want to pass on to a grandchild. I love your videos, you do a good job of explaining. Always told my daughters they need a guy that was handy but that’s another story!
How much does something like this cost and what kind of shop would I look for in my area. I’m in northern Kentucky across from Cincinnati. Thanks, wishing for a good new channel.
Hi Sharon! I am not sure what another shop would charge, if you could even find one that will do it. You can check my facebook page (vintage mixers and more) under notes, there is a list of a few people, one may be able to help you out. Thanks!
That's a beautiful restoration! I was given a working K4 - B and am looking to do similar, do you have a detailed video of the assembly or perhaps you could send me in the right direction of where to find this? Parts seem hard to come by too but that's another can of worms perhaps.
Looking to replace a worn cord for the old lady next door and wondering if I can just cut and splice new cord on without taking the insides out of back end on this kind of mixer? I have the top 1/2 off and can see the power cord running under the speed lever. Any thoughts or advise?
Hi! I was wondering what your opinion is on trying to attach the screw cap base for the bowls so it’s like the newer versions? I just got one but not sure if it’s even worth trying
You need a socket driver.
Sorry if you mentioned before, what is that reddish grease you're using?
I have a kitchen aid K45ssobo mixer..my paddle is hitting the side of the bowl...the adjustment screw in the neck is not helping any ideas...its driving me crazy...
Hello, I just purchased a K4-B. Do you have suggestions of colors ? Powder coat is the ultimate (I do like the Turquoise).
I just noticed the pedestal on this one in the video is cracked on top , mine is cracked in the exact same place. A weakness? Thanks
what was your painting process? what type of paint did you use?
Hi Rick, thanks for the video! I'm not sure I'm satisfied with the speed adjustment I did on that model 12. I seem to remember something about placing your finger against the beater and counting the revolutions per minute, second, or something, but I can't figure out which video it is. Thanks.
I added a link on your last comment for setting the speed on mixmasters. It is totally different than kitchenaids.
@@vintagemixersandmore1666 Thanks, Rick. I could have sworn I saw you set the speed for a mixer by holding your finger against the beater and counting the RPMs. What brand was that or was that someone else?
ua-cam.com/video/G2O6OzNQuFI/v-deo.html
I saw the video you want, it’s a kitchen aid. Hope this works.
@@JimWatsonTheframingMagician Yes it was probably me and it was a kitchenaid. I would be terrified to put my fingers near a sunbeam lol
Have you ever updated an old mixer to an SS speed-control? Or, exchanged everything from a newer model into...say a K4-B shell?
Are you using food-grade grease in the gear box or just in the planetary?
Hi, are you still repairing mixers?
Hi Rick, I live in Australia and have an American Kitchen aid. How expensive/difficult is it to convert to Aus power, thus doing ways with the huge power converter? And do you happen to know if its doable can i send to you to do or do you know someone here who does this work. Many thanks. Ps..love you refurbish sooo many people throw stuff out. Such a waste
I need my Sunbeam mixer MMB serviced. Are you still doing this? If not, can you please recommend someone? Thanks.
Hi Debbie, I am not but certainly check with these folks here! facebook.com/notes/vintage-mixers-and-more/other-vintage-appliance-restorers/2447370998621870/
Hi. I have a K-5A that runs on maximum speed regardless of the speed switch position. I tried tightening the screws in the rear but it still just goes full blast. What part or parts do I need?? I can't seem to figure out exactly what to order and replace.
Remove 1 leg of the capacitor from the rear of the machine, and see if your speed control comes back. If so, the capacitor is shorted and needs to be replaced. I think Dave at davesrepair.com has those capacitors for sale.
@@vintagemixersandmore1666 thanks, I completed the full restoration a while back. The problem was indeed the capacitor.
Here's an imgur album of my restoration if you want to take a peek. imgur.com/gallery/1jbqApu
Halo sir, i have a 5kpm50 or kitchenaid heavy duty series, they get new worm gear, already installed, i have a trouble when running test, if they have a load a dough, they get lost look like the gear lost, do you know my KAid problem ?
Its hard to say without really checking out all the components, I can only suggest checking the pin under the planetary gear and make sure it is in place, if not that gear will spin on its shaft
Do u have any video putting back together cuz I took it all apart with your other video and u did not show how to put together so it’s in pieces k 45
There is some reassembly footage in these, if it is sped up, you can reduce the speed.

Do you answer questions?
i have a K5-A and the resistor is broke. do you know where i could find a replacement
You may be able to find one on ebay, if not then you may have to source it from a donor machine. Sadly they are no longer produced.
If you know the specs of the resistor there's a good chance of finding one. I highly doubt it was just used in kitchenaid mixers. Once you know the specs do a google search. It may not look the part but it should work if the specs are the same.
Rick... don't know if you are still answering questions on this one or not, but i have a K4-B serial # 4B00409, which i take it is a very early model ... mine has carbon plates that press closer together to control speed.. i rebuilt it years ago but never really got it working at the higher speeds.. it only goes so far... kitchenair once told me it was around a 1944 model (?)... any idea on how to adjust those pieces of carbon or any other ideas that come to mind? any info would be great.. thanks for your videos and any help you can give... take care
the carbon pieces are the brushes. The speed adjusts just like the k45a/k45ss - by adjusting the screws on the speed control plate. Mr. Mixer has tutorial videos.
@@aaronmanela afraid at this age the 'brushes' are less than pristine and make contact a bit unevenly.. hence the speed is less than ideal.. planning on going at it again for a new paint job and will see what i can do this time around....
I have my grandmother's K5-A Kitchen-aid, She received it as a wedding gift in 1946. Would you be able to restore it for me?
Hi, are you still in the business of refurbishing mixers? I have a KitchenAid k45 with faulty speed controls.
Hi Rick, are you still answering questions here?
Hey Jim sure am! Cant get on every day but I check in a few times a week :)
@@vintagemixersandmore1666 OK, thanks. I'm working on a pink model 12 for my sister and I'm doing far more than I ever did on the HBs I did in 2018. Your videos have been invaluable and I'm really appreciating the detail you go to. I was struggling with the fan blades on the armature making contact with the wiring on the coil and realised the coil was to high. Did you know there are some small embossed marks on the inside of the housing that are indicators to give you the depth setting? I don't recall that being mentioned but of course reassembly is always high speed. I turn the speed down so I can see what's going on. I have to mute the audio but I turn on the CC so that I know what you're saying. after this one I have a Chrome and white to do then she'll have all five colors of the model 12 unless there's a color I'm unaware of. Then I'm going to do a model 12 in pink, white and turquoise but the rème de la crème will be a chrome model 11 with the flying lady part of a chrome hood ornament from a 1955 Nash for the handle. What do you think? www.google.com/url?sa=i&source=imgres&cd=&cad=rja&uact=8&ved=2ahUKEwi2kvT5pP3mAhXUu54KHYEhB6EQjRx6BAgBEAQ&url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.pinterest.com%2Fpin%2F75505731238672628%2F&psig=AOvVaw1ro3P3ceeGttQSPDk9zH_T&ust=1578891937156407
@@JimWatsonTheframingMagician Oh that would be a sweet customization!! There are also stops cast into the housing that will stop the field coil when it is set in place, if you set it till it makes contact with the stops you will be good to go. I tried so hard to cover everything, but it always seems like there was so much details lol
I took mine apart - just the two halves to replace a speed control arm and when I put it back together it didn't work - no power. So I took it back apart looked at it and found out when I put the brushes back in one of them didn't go all the way in. I could screw the cap on but for some reason it had to be just right to go all the way in. FYI
Hi Rick beautiful work you have done on that vintage mixer!
Do you accept projects repainting kitchen aid mixers? Thank you!
