Motorhome Mums
United Kingdom
Приєднався 20 лют 2022
Motorhome Mums is the creation of two recently retired menopausal women. We are documenting our adventures having given up conventional living for a life on the road with our two dogs. We were completely new to UA-cam when we set off travelling, so as well as learning lots of tips tips for motorhome enthusiasts (which we promise to share) we have been learning the nuances of UA-cam, filming and editing. Hopefully content and quality will improve over time.
We love travelling the UK and finding the gems this country has to offer. Our two labradors are always at the forefront of their planning when searching for sites and places to stay, so we lean towards rural or coastal locations. We love to share snippets of information about the places and sites we visit so that others can use this to the benefit of their own plans if they wish.
Watch to see the ups and downs of vanlife and the huge adjustment we have made, although mostly ‘ups’ so far.

Suspension Upgrade - Stage 1 of up-plating our motorhome
We undertake a major upgrade to the motorhome finally taking the plunge ahead of up-plating the vehicle. We currently have a maximum weight allowance of 3850 kg and following advice from SVTech we have replaced the front spings to comfort springs and added air suspension at the rear. We used a company called Motorhome Supplies Ltd based in Wakefield.
Before the upgrade we stopped of at Stanford Hall caravan park near Lutterworth where we met with friends and whilst the work was being undertaken we borrowed a car from Motorhome Supplies Ltd which enabled us to explore the city of Wakefield and a nearby country park; Anglers Countrypark.
This is episode 132 in a series of videos cataloguing our post retirement adventures. We are Kath and Sue and we are travelling the UK with our two dogs Archie and Fudge and living full time in our Burstner Elegance Motorhome. We have given up conventional living for a new van-life, enjoying the freedom of the road and plenty of time outdoors taking in the beautiful countryside the UK has to offer.

However, we do manage a short stay at a lovely Thames-side campsite which was great value fo...

BOY RACERS interfere with Vanlife.

This week is such fun with lots of walking, but sadly we needed to leave a good park up due to boy racers arriving at midnight. So, after a disturbed night's sleep we decided to leave Penistone Hill Country Park and head to a more peaceful park up in a car park next to Marsden station and the Huddersfield Narrow Canal. From there we headed to Hayfield Camping and Caravan Club Site for a couple ...

This week we see two site at contrasting ends of the value for money scale. First is Marl Barn, Tosside near to Gisburn Forest. At £23pn with EHU plus 50p for a shower, we felt this was well worth the charges. Conversley High Lanning in Dent at £33 pn with EHU plus £2 per night per dog plus 50p for a shower was not. The charges for the dogs were unjustified as no dog poo bins and not even allow...

TERRIFIED by a turn of events in vanlife
Переглядів 2,8 тис.2 місяці тому
We have a very shocking incident this week which scares us as it highlights the fragility of life. Otherwise it's a bit of a mish mash of various vanlife jobs; service MOT, roof cleaning and some silicon sealing on the roof. The exciting part of this week was when we met, in person, for the first time, Steve and Lorna of Wandering By Choice. We have been following each other for about 18 months...

Brilliant motorhome park up surrounded by nature

This week we found two lovely park ups. One not far from Minehead up in the hills and a relatively easy walk to Dunkery Hill, the highest peak in Exmoor. This park up was so peaceful. We shared the car park with a few walkers during the day, but by 6pm we had the place to ourselves and with hardly any passing traffic, it really felt like the perfect spot. The second was close to Exeter; a car p...

You ladies always put a smile on my face 🙂. Thank you so much for the videos. I just love you two
Thank you. 🙏
Two votes for a roll although sometimes a white ‘roll’ like that would be called a bap (not of it was seeded/brown bread etc!) and one vote for a cob or a bread cake from our Yorkshire friend!!!! What a lot of work you’ve had done on the van and just after all that work on the house!! I think you need a holiday now?! I don’t know what up plating up means but hope you have a comfier ride now. We squirmed hitting pot holes on Skye (numerous)! ❤️🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟❤️ to Archie managing in the heat and loving seeing both him & Fudge❤️ in the water together …..did she pinch his stick though???!!!!! So unfair hey Archie?😳🤬 Hope you’re enjoying the van even more now!Xxxx👍🚐☀️😎🐶🐶
😂😂😂so many names for a small round bit of bread. Yes she did pinch his stick!!! She always lets him do the hard work and then paddles in for the steal. I don’t think he really minds though. It’s a bit of a game. Sounds like you got back safely after a great trip. Here’s to more travels. 🙏🚌❤️
As usual wonderful video, always interesting and entertaining thank you. We call it a cob lol, I am from Leicestershire and Stewart from Litchfield. It is always so lovely to see the love and care given to Archie and Fudge. See you in the near future 😁 Sheila n Stewart North Wales x
😂😂😂thank you. I can’t believe how many names we have for a small round bread thing. 🙏🚌❤️
Hi Kath and Sue. I did send a message earlier this year, saying we were going to rent a motorhome and hope we could meet up with you. Within three months, everything has changed. My lovely Di passed away 25th June with pancreatic cancer. I'm in bits ... my heart is broken 💔. Embrace each day and each other. 🎉
Oh no!! I am so sorry to hear that. I can’t imagine how hard that must be for you. Hold on to your happy memories. Our thoughts and prayers are with you. 😥❤️
Barm, around Merseyside and Lancashire. Forgot once and asked for a young lad while in a cafe in Essex for a Sausage Barm and he hadn't a clue what I wanted. I said I mean a roll and he then tried to plate up one of the flaky pastry variety.. All very confusing!
😂😂😂Sue once went into a shop in my home town for a sandwich and was asked if she wanted it on a barm cake. She said “no I don’t want a cake”. Took her a while to work things out. 🤗🙏🚌❤️
Did I just hear right you were in Wakefield my hometown 😳
Yes we were. Just for a day but what a lovely place and treated by some lovely weather. 🤗🙏🚌❤️
You were its got some amazing buildings as well as the beautiful cathedral. There's the court house and what was the old police station it's up at the top of town near the college it's stunning 😍
It’s a batch for me in the midlands 👍
😂😂😂so many names. 🙏🚌❤️
Looks like wall ties on that bridge in Wakefield - def a cob from the East Midlands contingency! Sharon and Polly Spaniel
😂😂😂so many names and thank you for solving the bridge mystery. Hi to Polly too. 🙏🚌❤️
It’s a barm (barm cake) perfect for a Wigan kebab with lots of butter 😂
Now you’re talking. 😂😂😂👍🙏🚌❤️
It’s a bap up here in the NE. Enjoyed the video, Wakefield looks very different to what I had in mind, beautiful. The guys at the garage were amazing, enjoy your new comfy ride.
😂😂can’t believe how many different names we have. We are definitely making the most of our smooth ride. 🤗🙏🚌❤️
Breadcake in South Yorkshire. .My Lancashire grandma called it a balm cake. Another very interesting video thanks.
😂😂Breadcake is a new one on me. 🙏🤗🚌❤️
@@MotorhomeMums Rotherham!
It’s a bread roll 🤷♂️😂
👍😂🙏🚌❤️
It's called a Cob lol. Great vlog ❤
😂👍🙏🚌❤️
Roll for us Kath, that’s a big upgrade for Bertie, I’m sure you and Sue will really notice the difference.. great vlog safe travels ❤️👍👊🚌🏴
😂👍. Yes very big upgrade and noticed the difference immediately. Next stage now to get the paperwork sorted. Hopefully see you soon. 🙏🚌❤️🏴
@@MotorhomeMums hope so too good luck in getting it sorted soon ❤️🏴
Roll for me, from Aotearoa. Love your videos. Thanks
😂😂 wow. I’ve just had to google Aotearoa so now I know it’s a roll in NZ. Thanks for lovely comment. 🤗🙏🚌❤️
What a great vlog very informative good luck on your next adventure looking forward to your next vlog best wishes Sheila and family
Thank you. I’m glad you found it informative. All the best. 🤗🙏🚌❤️
It’s a roll in the midlands, I think depending on what place in the country you live to what you call it it’s been a long time since we have been there one to go back to xx
I just can’t believe we have so many different names for small round bread. 😂😂🚌🙏❤️
Another great vlog! It was roll when I was in USA, but I tend to say bap now 😂❤
Oh that’s cheating. You’ve switched names. 😂😂😂🙏❤️
@@MotorhomeMums 😂😂❤️
batch 100%
👍🤗🚌🙏❤️
Interesting video and I don’t own a van of any description! 😊 it’s a roll! ❤
😂😂😂. You are definitely hard core for watching us then. Thank you. 🙏🚌❤️
Your query on the bridge studs .that is a bridge tie. The plate you can see is attached to the end of a metal rod passing through the structure(usually with a similar bridge tie at the far side of the structure. These are normally only installed after construction and intended to correct/stop any subsequently observed bulging/movement of a brick structure.
Thank you. That’s very informative 🤗🙏🚌❤️
Great to see Archie enjoying the water. He became a puppy again.
I know he does just love it even though it’s not that good for his old legs. We just treat him every now and again as we feel that he deserves to enjoy life even at his age. 🤗🙏🚌❤️🐕🦺
This Lancashire lass calls it a bun 😊
😂😂😂isn’t that what you have in your hair. 🤗🙏🚌❤️
Not me…. Mines as short as yours 😂
I chuckled when you met Sue's friend! 😂
😂😂😂I would bunk a lift on that broomstick. 🚌❤️
Think the things on the bridge are ties to hold it together. Get them on old buildings too.
I’m very impressed by your knowledge. New trade to get into. 😂🙏🚌❤️
Hi. Why do you want to up plate the vehicle? What are the benefits. Cheers x
Because we live in the van and carry our worldly possessions we are always conscious of weight. Up plating will enable us to carry a bit more weight so we are not so worried about how close we are to the maximum limit we had before the suspension upgrade. 🤗🙏🚌❤️
It’s a barm cake!
Definitely has my vote. 😂😂😂🙏🚌❤️
It's a roll for me. The guy was interesting and informative. So much work being done. Wakefield looks nice to visit.
😂😂😂so many different names. I’m just trying to explain this to a new friend from Australia. Tim from Motorhome Supplies was a really good sport. There’s not too many places that would be so happy for me to film, but they are all quality engineers so had no problem giving us the insight and it did open our eyes as to the work it involved. 🤗🙏🚌❤️
A roll !
😂👍🙏🚌❤️
A Lancashire lass says barm cake!
Oh yes!!! Definitely with you. 👍🤗🙏🚌❤️
Definitely a T-cake 🥯 Interesting vlog, up plating is on our radar, so will be interested to see an update after a few thousand miles on the ride quality. Thanks, A, J & 🐶
😂😂😂 now I know a toasted t-cake as something different. I’ll keep you posted on the smooth ride. 🤗🙏🚌❤️
TFS . I'm with Sue - I also say roll . Safe travels. 😊😊
😂😂😂I’ll let her know she has a supporter. 🤗🙏🚌❤️
Go with Sue a roll , however I would go vegetarian too 🐾🫶❤️
😂😂😂steady!!! She’s getting too many roll supporters. 🤗🙏🚌❤️
Difficult decision, but for you, the house has served you well & you’ll take all those beautiful memories with you in your hearts 🥰 Here is to your next chapter, a life on the road full of adventure & a whole lot of new memories and people to meet. 🥂 Em 💜
Thank you and spot on. Sometimes you just need to give yourself a good talking to and then you get a sensible perspective from others. Really appreciate your sensible comments. Just right. Xx🙏🤗🚌❤️
@@MotorhomeMums it’s advice I should be listening to myself tbh 🙈☺️ xx 😘
What a lovely video, you’ve given us some great ideas of places to visit in the area. Thank you. I think it’s understandable to have emotional ties to a property when you’ve so many memories there. Also, It doesn’t seem to matter how much our son loves travelling/moving he too seems to find comfort in having us at the ‘family home’…..(he didn’t even grow up where we are now but as we’ve been here over 20 years it still is an important place for us all including him!). You invest time and energy into making a home too so accepting it’s no longer the place to be is a journey in itself I think. Our garden is especially important to us so thoughts of moving are really tough although intellectually I think we might be better somewhere smaller (having just had an extended trip in our van it makes you realise how little space is really needed too!) I hope you’re being kind to yourself as you make this decisive step and allow yourself time to adjust. I agree that home is where your heart is and with the people and animals you love so in time this feeling of transition will reduce I’m sure. Will you be able to keep your car somewhere I wonder? Undoubtedly useful at times! Good luck with all the sorting you must be going through. Just the thought of doing that makes us feel stressed and in need of a trip in the van!! Love to you all,👍👍👍🚐🚐🐶🐶🐶☀️
😂😂definitely get back to the van. Ours has always been a stress buster for us. It has been a tough decision but now it’s made I do feel a little freer. Speaking to Dan was a big thing as he was more practical and told me it was more likely we’d need him rather than the other way around. He will take the car to his new place and we can use it whenever we are down south so no different really. The car was Sue’s and it’s 18years old now so we are surprised every year it gets through its MOT. Keep making the most of your van and all the fun it can bring. 🤗🙏🚌❤️
@@MotorhomeMums The car is doing well! it’s great Dan has space so you can keep hold of it! Hope it’s a happy time of transition for him too! I absolutely agree re the van! When we had our business and initially ran it from home so when we got a van it became such a sanctuary as the only place we could escape and the space was just our own. It’s continued to feel like that and although we’re retired having the stressors of caring for mum with dementia I find it’s the space I switch off in as we’re usually in beautiful countryside where I really breathe and migraines diminish!. Being in it f/t I’m sure there are still plenty of mundane jobs to get done but somehow things don’t seem so arduous. Then of course there’s Sasha who sees time in the van as time for us to be completely and totally devoted to her: her enjoyment, her walks, her tummy tickles, her extra early morning ‘essential’ wee trips (that somehow seem so much more essential the closer we are to a beach!)🥰🤣🤣🤣🐶☀️🚐
I can understand your emotions when selling your home, but you will take all your memories with you 🥰 The walks you took us on were beautiful, I must make a conscious effort to head down south and explore. Regarding the Tractive giveaway, I have emailed you twice Cath, I don’t know if they are going to a junk mail folder, I’m not really sure what else to do. Is it ok to put my email address in these comments? 🤷♀️
Ah. Ok I’ll have a look in junk just in case. I wouldn’t put your email in here just because everyone can see it. If you have instagram you can send me a message directly, but let me check junk first.
Hi Eve, found your email and replied. 🤗🚌❤️
The good old sniff test, it’s a must for vanlifers, some lovely walks around there Kath, hi to Sue and safe travels once you get going again you four..👍👊🚌❤️
Thanks. Will be in touch soon re Scotland. 🙏🚌❤️
@@MotorhomeMums look forward to hearing from you ❤️
Wow that water was so clear and very inviting for a dip. Some lovely walks 👍
I was soooo tempted to take a dip. A few years younger and I would have definitely been straight in. 😂😂🚌❤️
Sniff test is important. The trick is to put the shirt aside for a day or two then wear it again. People don’t notice that you’ve worn it twice. As a campervanner if I’m on a big trip I have to do this. Don’t care as I’ll never see those people again. I’d love to go full time on the road but my daughter lives with me and works from home. She also has her own camper. I think you’ve made the right decision now that Dans got his own place. Sorry if I’ve dripped on a bit. Best wishes to you all. ♥️
Thank you Peter. It was a hard one but we are happy with it. I’ll have to try with your shirt trick. 😂🙏🚌❤️
Hi lovely walks I enjoyed seeing the bee on the blackberry flower ,congratulations on your decision I'm sure all will turn out well in the long run a lovely fresh start 🙂
The bee was great. Don’t think he noticed I was there. Thanks for support. We thought long and hard so hopefully the right thing for us. 🙏🤗🚌❤️

Of course. Why not take your chance to get Mum soaking when you can. 😂😂🙏🚌❤️
Lovely walks ❤ very interesting thoughts on letting go of bricks and mortar x
It was a tough decision which we’ve not had to even think about whilst Dan was still there, but now we finally made the decision it feels like a relief. 🙏🤗🚌❤️
@@MotorhomeMums if it feels like a relief then it’s definitely the right one ❤️❤️
