Brilliant motorhome park up surrounded by nature

  • This week we found two lovely park ups. One not far from Minehead up in the hills and a relatively easy walk to Dunkery Hill, the highest peak in Exmoor. This park up was so peaceful. We shared the car park with a few walkers during the day, but by 6pm we had the place to ourselves and with hardly any passing traffic, it really felt like the perfect spot.
The second was close to Exeter; a car park in Ashclyst Forest. Walking was plentiful, but very wet and muddy when we were there.
We also experienced a Devon campsite called Twelve Oaks which was a short drive from Newton Abbot. From there we walked alongside the Stover canal, now disused and admired the large sumptuous properties in the surrounding area.
This is episode 118 in a series of videos cataloguing our post retirement adventures. We are Kath and Sue and we are travelling the UK with our two dogs Archie and Fudge and living full time in our Burstner Elegance Motorhome. We have given up conventional living for a new van-life, enjoying the freedom of the road and plenty of time outdoors taking in the beautiful countryside the UK has to offer.

Thanks for doing what you do and posting your adventures for everyone to enjoy. We are a couple who bought our first motorhome last year to enjoy the freedom retirement brings and to give our rescue 7yr old border collie Baz adventures he'd never had (he was rescued by police when his owner died and had never been taken out before 2021). We only managed to get Baz out twice in the motorhome last year and sadly we lost him when he suddenly became poorly just two weeks into 2024 💔
We were devastated at losing our fury friend but we discovered Motorhome Mums - watching your adventures from the beginning upto present day has been a very comforting and uplifting journey for us to help overcome our deep sadness (I bet you never imagined grief therapy as a benefit of watching your videos) Anyway apologies for the unloading of sadness on your channel, oh and bye the way I was born in Billinge hospital and brought up in 'Shevy' and couldn't believe when you went to Holgates, my first memories in a caravan as a kid with my parents where at holgates!
Anyway thankyou so much for your inspiration, please keep posting your exploits for us to share and keep a close eye on beautiful Archie and Fudge we are planning to dognap them!!! 🤣

Thank you so much for sharing your thoughts and so sorry to hear of your loss. It sounds like you gave Baz a second chance and gave him his best years. We are dreading the day we lose Archie and whilst we all know it will happen, it is so devastating as you say. My heart goes out to you. I hope you still manage to have some good times in your Motorhome and cherish the happy memories with Baz. If you spot us somewhere then please do come and say hello. All the best. 🤗🙏🚌❤️

Dunkery Beacon is the “Purple headed mountain “ in “all things bright and beautiful “ 🎶and the River Avil just below Dunkery is the “River running by …”🎶 Cecil Frances Alexander sat on or near Dunkery Beacon when he wrote it in the 1800s 😊lovely round there, we live not far from there Exmoor is never crowded or busy as there are no large towns near by ! Glad you enjoyed it 😊

Love Exmoor and that park up looked divine. We haven’t been for ages but I do remember it feeling very isolated and less popular than most National Parks which was perfect. It was on Exmoor we had an argument in the van, I stormed off in the dark, realised there was nowhere to go except fall into the Bristol Channel (we were parked near the sea somewhere), so dragged my feet back and quietly put dinner on instead. Nowhere upstairs to run to when you argue in a van 😂
Anyway, beautiful place and how lovely seeing Archie and Fudge enjoy it too. Great vlog ❤

Thank you. Really appreciate your comments. How exciting to have a new camper to try out. We use an app called searchforsites which we find really good as it includes site and pub stops and parkups so a good one stop shop. Sue is the one with the patience to look through the reviews and also check google maps as she’s always checking whether there will be plenty runs for her too. Searchforsites is around £5 per year so well worth it for us. 🙏🤗🚌❤️
