I thought the A-12 was slightly faster because it didn’t hold as much fuel as the SR71. A cool side note when I was a kid in the late 70’s this guy would come over to my Grand parents house for Easter. He knew I loved planes and he told me about a plane that was so fast at full speed to make a 180 degree turn it would cover a couple of states. A few decades later when the program was declassified I was convinced he worked for skunkworks. Was never able to confirm it as they all passed. Perhaps he didn’t think a 9 year old was a security threat.😂

The A7 Corsair II makes me feel all good inside. Is that an Air National Guard A7 or one of the last variants? The engineering of the SR71 is remarkable. That museum is fascinating, one can probably spend the whole day there, love the channel 💯

The most bad ass aircraft ever.

That’s an SR71B which is training version. In this airframe, back seat is not for RSO but for instructor pilot. Back seat in standard SR71 was flush with aircraft, only had side windows and could not see pilot. I was stationed at Beale AFB in the 70s and worked on the flight line so got to watch this fly. Takeoffs on a clear night were spectacular.

I watched an SR-71 takeoff in the evening at RAF Mildenhall, a LONG time ago now. One of the most incredible things I have ever seen. One of the hangars at the end of the runway has little SR-71 metal emblems in the walkways in the admin part. It is sad that young people won't get to see these masterpieces of aviation fly again.

Got to listen to ATC with the SR-71 from takeoff from Homestead AFB until asking for final into Beale AFB. From the time it went wheels up until it requested final was 19 minutes. One fast bird!

Isn't it great that we all "fhat know" that our country has aircraft with more capabilities in service than have been deployed for the past thirty years,? I truly wonder whether the 71 was still capable from other platforms? Probably to this day we won't know, all the way back to the "A-12" days. Thank God we are American, and Thank You for your service. There was one more "oddity," as it looks as if the Vought F-8 Crusader, used by the Navy, had camouflage paintwork when this is a USAG bird?

Equally surprising is how chonking the A7 is.

6:00 I know it's a wide angle camera which accentuates the shape, but still, this angle looks BAD-ASS. Of course everyone knows about the Blackbird leaking fuel when it's on the ground, because of the gaps in the panels. And it's perfectly safe as well, as the JP-7 fuel is actually very hard to ignite. But I was always thinking, why not have fuel tanks inside of the aircraft to prevent the leaking? I didn't realise that that would add weight, compromising performance. It's one of the things that makes this an absolute beast. Just out of this world. I wouldn't be surprised, though, if there are still some SR's secretly kept in service. Btw, I think this is an SR-71B trainer variant? The regular SR-71 has the second cockpit flush with the fuselage (and not sticking out).

I think I would lose my MIND if I were in the presence of such an amazing piece of aircraft!!! Omg 😮💪 the SR-71 blackbird was my first love of aircraft’s, then it was the B-2 Spirit bomber, and the F-117A nighthawk. That would be an absolute DREAM to be able to see any or all of them IN person. Thank you for sharing these awesome aircraft’s and experiences with us all. 😃💪
