Maybe so but, Iran is barely keeping its existing air force operational. They don't have the vertically-integrated full set industrial economy or reliable foreign suppliers of raw and semi-finished materials to build the kind of air force that they need. They keep rehashing the same F-5 platform which means they don't have the ability to create an all new fighter. Let alone in quantity.
The Qaher 313 was a monumental embarrassment because it was fake and yet they tried to pass if off as real and got roasted. If it was real and Iran could build it, then it would've been seen at the Paris Air Show and there would be dozens of operational squadrons by now. Washington would not be making threats if they knew they'd be facing a peer air power in the Middle East. But, that is not the case and the Pentagon knows it.

Max bases his analysis on the assumption that Iran plans to have its fighter jets go toe to toe and nose to nose with an adversary. That's how he's been trained to think. But Iran's military planners have been thinking outside the box. Iran has been advancing its capabilities in asymmetric warfare. It has been focusing on deterrence power by improving its ballistic missiles, anti-ship cruise missiles, and SAMs. It has also been focusing on AI driven drones.
Iran's air force tactics are not for dogfights or air superiority, but for asymmetric warfare operations like flying under enemy radar to carry out pin point strikes (which is why Iran favors the smaller, lighter fighter jets).
To understand Iran's military strategy, one needs to look at Iran's broader geopolitical and economic soft power efforts that comes through BRICS de-dollarization and non-SWIFT trade transactions, Iran's oil bourse, making peace with Saudi Arabia with the help of China, integration into the SCO and other economic unions, building ties with regional governments and non-government groups, cooperating in China's beltway initiative and the Russian North-South corridor, increasing value-added petro-chemical products, and many more projects like building ties with newly liberated African nations and putting its satellites into orbit with Russian rockets launched in Russia as well as indigenously produced rockets launched in Iran, etc. etc. etc.
Iran and Russia have cooperated closely to evade US sanctions and to make the US sanctions blow back against the USA. They increased trade and finance with each other significantly including building another nuclear power plant. Most importantly, they have increased intelligence gathering cooperation. Also, the more the US sanctions Chinese companies, increases tariffs on Chinese goods, and embargoes certain products, the more emboldened China gets to cooperating economically with Iran and Russia.
Also, Max is assuming that the USA's air force of future decades is going to be as powerful as it is now. But Iran and Russia are watching the US debt hop over $34 trillion and increase by a $trillion every 100 days. That's 120% plus of US GDP. That's unsustainable!
The US dollar is losing its international reserve currency status while US T-bills are getting dumped and are more difficult to sell. Credit delinquencies in the US are increasing and the math used to measure real unemployment and real inflation are massively deceptive. If the Federal Reserve lowers interest rates, then inflation rises faster. But if the Fed raises interest rates, banks have to refinance at those higher rates and can start to fail again. And if the Fed does nothing, things still stink. Meanwhile, the USA is throwing away tens of billions of dollars on Ukraine's war which it has slim to no chance of winning.
Meanwhile, the USA is becoming internationally isolated because of its blind and obdurate support of Israel's ongoing mass-murder and oppression of Palestinians despite global condemnation and the International Court of Justice pronouncement that there is adequate evidence of genocide to continue investigation and to order Israel to not commit acts of genocide.
This is while the accusations against Hamas have been debunked, most of the 1200 dead on Oct 7 were from Israeli fire. The NY Times fired the journalist who made up the story about systematic rape, and the 40 beheaded babies story turned out to be false. The world has watched Hamas pull off one of modern histories best planned and professionally executed attacks, and the US weapons that Israel uses can do not much more than murder civilians, but not get Hamas out of the tunnels.
The world has witnessed how the USA promised the Afghans that the US would stay until the job was done but eventually lost enthusiasm and sold out the Afghans who had helped the USA to the Taliban. The world has seen the US betray its promises to the Afghans and get chased out by the Taliban and unable to stop the Yemenis from blocking the Red Sea. That's after the US was chased out of Somalia and Beirut and Vietnam.
So, the US isn't just losing economically, it is also losing political clout.
Eventually, the US might not be able to afford much of an airforce or navy. Iran doesn't have to lift a finger to see the US airforce rust away in bone yards. So, Max gave us his Top Gun analysis of Iran's air force aspirations, but it is overly simplistic, ignores nuances and complexities which I have barely scratched the surface thereof.

As an Iranian who cares about his country and his armed forces, I follow so many analysts and articles that are released about my country. I realized that most of those people who write about my country and its army or deliver speeches. Unfortunately, they have a little information about Iran, about its people, and about its armed forces. As an Iranian, I know the strategy of Iranian military commanders and military experts. All you can see، is just like an iceberg، you see a part of the iceberg, the huge part is under the water. The Iranian military power is just like an iceberg, Iran during the iran-iraq war came to conclusion that has no way except become, at least, a regional power and this power must come from inside not outside. So after war concentrated on domestic abilities and sometimes tried to get help from outside. Of course some silly acts done by USA helped Iranians to grew faster and faster such sending drone RQ170 to Iranian sky which was trapped and etc.
Anyway Iran is doing great and very soon Iran will surprise the world.

      @maiser Місяць тому +3

Iran did not dominate for long time the air in that war. Several other sources, and some of them Iranian, say that it was quickly declining for the Air force of Iran. Most of them are sure its because US air forces require more maintenance than their counterparts from Russia. Iran had the best pilotes but had the unreliable US airplanes that couldnt have much flight time before it needed serious repairs. So they couldnt risk using them, basically. Yes, they were unrealiable according to many non-western sources whose words have weight. Iraq on the other hand had a steady flow of airplanes and parts from Russia and others, and got more and more dominance in the skies as the time went by.
The Iran-Iraq war was a bitter experience for Iran and learned them things they needed to obtain in the future. Thats why they used so much of their focus on missilies, drones and other important defense products. Today they can challenge and sometimes even defeat all foes.
The moral and experience is this: Don't lean on foreigners. Use your young as well as experienced to develope all thing needed to become strong.

Yes, the Anglosphere was taken hostage by Rome&Islam, two global predators, brothers, at the end of WW2 when the deep state showed off the bomb. Rome funded & Iran fueled Hitler. Iran paid Hitler in oil to put non Catholics in camps in Britain so the Shah could colonise and use Britain as a centralized, lush, island fortress from which to rule the world. Everyone with a history in the oil biz knows but nobody ever talks about the games Iran played for decades trickingBritain into 30 yrs importing train tracks to export heavy oil, before ports shipped it. The month the trains opened the Shah gave it to Hitler who had 38 trains waiting. That was 1938. Without Iran Hitler could never have made a move. And without the deep state (Rome) holding back Americans from wading in from the start, he would never have dared invade Poland. Nineteen countries ran 19,000 forced labour camps. Hitler was not pro white. He was pro slavery to Rome & Islam. Neither of them are white. They are PersioNorthAfrican slave systems.

Iran's multi-purpose Karrar drones with the upgraded microjet engine named Tolu 5, can climb to ~47000 feet or about 14 KM altitude and intercept all kinds of targets including fighter jets. Now the altitude is impressive for a drone of this size and they don't need a runway for take-off. They can carry electronic warfare kits and one weapon at a time, the interceptor version can carry an AD-08 (Majid) air to air missile. It appears that Iran is likely not going to invest as much in manned fighter-jets and many consider drones to be the future. And the Su-35s have not yet reached Iran despite all the hype.

The state department blocked the agreement, then blocked other exports later. The L model was planned to have lighter landing gear, no folding wings, etc. That which makes it tough for carrier operations., was too not be included. Weight savings could go to fuel or weapons.

They have the SAM missiles equivalent to Russians S-400 and also very advance Air to Air missiles with a very long range and accurate radars to to hit their enemy fighters way before visual range... And for offensive purposes they have the short, middle, long range missiles and the Inter continental Missiles... Therefor I don't understand why they would need to go through the expenses of buying the Su-35... By the way isn't Su-35 4+ Generation fighter? Thanks.

This is why America can no longer rely on F22 and F35 but continue progress on NGAD 6th Gen fighter.
Apart from stealth and distant kill capability but also extreme agility for that unexpected dog fight.
We have stealth but the adversary is also developing countermeasures and indigenous stealth.
Note: a Chinese national thru corporate espionage stole F22 and F35 blue prints. He is in US custody.
    Remember Vietnam?
Our phantoms had only rockets, but the pilots were not yet trained in dog fighting against a tough opponent. That's why top gun was created. To turn the tide and create American aces.

The manufacture of advanced fighters also signals capabilities in other areas. That is why Iran has got to get help and step up its manufacturing game. They can't keep rehashing the same F-5 platform and think that's going to deter the Evil Empire (U.S.A).
Iran's lack of shipbuilding is also a sign of a weak industrial capability. They can barely make one frigate every few years. Iran needs something revolutionary and on the cheap.
They need to convert a North Atlantic-spec container ship into an aircraft and drone carrier. Build two landing wings on either side and build a launch deck down the middle and in front of the house (building at the stern of the ship). It would be relatively dirt cheap and be an impressive feat for Iran. It would demonstrate significant industrial and fabrication skill as well as resourcefulness. That kind of symbolism is important.
