Landscape photography and travel across the UK, focusing on the incredible Peak District. Sporting a Canon R5 and enough Vlogging gear to crush a mule.
The Little Waterfalls of the Peak District - Wyming Brook
I take a stroll along the banks of the Wyming Brook, reopened after recent bridge repair. I manage to catch a little light before the rain rolls in and it is definitely an uplifting morning.

Craig Yates dragged me out to shoot sunset at Curbar Edge because he was too lazy to do morning photography and has a mortal fear of temperatures above 17 degrees. Add to this that fact that I was ill (I still am) and what always happens with me when I’m miserable, I try to make life awkward for others. BACK MY BOOK! That will cheer me up. www.kickstarter.com/projects/eddieskelson/eddie-skelson...

A Lonely Tree, A Slate Mountain, a Point and Click Camera…
Переглядів 494Місяць тому
What a morning this was. Not the easiest either. Poor planning (or non-existent) and the perils of walking on wet slate really tested my steel in Wales. I visit the Lonely Tree in Llanberis, I see if a point and shoot camera from decades ago can compete with my R5 and I embark on a reconnaissance of the Dinorwic Slate Quarry. Apologies, this is a long one. And yes, that is what ‘she’ said.

I took a leisurely stroll into Padley Gorge (I’ll be back here soon) and thought I would show you how I go about combatting the GREEN of our magnificent Summer woodland and forests. It can be difficult to work these areas without excellent light and environmental conditions but I do feel it is still possible to pull out the character of a scene with a good set up and some ‘modest’ adjustments i...

I Didn’t Expect My Woodland Photography to Get Steamy…

My first visit to the beautiful Consall Valley woodland had been going well enough, but when I stumbled (literally, I tripped up) upon the fantastic, preserved rail station, got to see inside a working Signal Box and have the run of the platforms to photograph majestic, beast level steam locomotives my day was absolutely complete.
Photographing Bluebells in the Peak District

I ventured out to take another look at Lea Wood near Matlock in the Peak District and also met up with my mate Craig Yates to spoil his day. After a lovely and gentle walk through the area Craig punished me by making us take the most dangerous route imaginable to a man with no fitness close to his sixties… but my, at the end of it… the Bluebells, OH… the Bluebells.
Rainy Morning Photography - New Peak District Location
Переглядів 4792 місяці тому
Wow… this is the shortest Vlog in ages, probably just as well… The rain simply DID NOT STOP and the threat to my gear was super high, then again it usually is regardless of the weather because I’m a klutz. Still, this is ten minutes of the lad himself venturing out to a location that I have not photographed previously and haven’t even come across another Vlogger exploring the opportunities here...
Easy Walks in the Peak District - Wyming Brook

I have been meaning to produce this walk for AGES. When I finally got the chance it turns out that the English weather was determined to make sure I understood that it didn’t care a fig about my dreams of a gently babbling brook and simple walk. So, I hope you can still find some enjoyment in this walk. I loved every minute of it.

Arbor Low Stone Circle - A Compositional Challenge
Переглядів 1,3 тис.2 місяці тому
Arbor Low is an amazing monument of the Bronze Age, a stone circle, weather beaten and ravaged by time. It is one of the many enigmatic arrangements of stone pillars in the Peak and as with most you will find it amid stunning countryside. However, these stones have not been hoisted back into their original position. Instead they lie flat and surrounded by a steep embankment. Is it possible to m...

Looking for Cows in the Mist... A Disappointed Woodland Photographer...
Although I dont do photography, this gives me better ideas for cinematography, suppose a composition is good for both stills and filming
Absolutely, watch Chris Homer’s videos to see how the composition of his scenes tells so much with little to no dialogue. Aidin Robbins also shows off next level cinematography to help tell his stories.
Good to see the bridges have been tastefully restored, a little weathering before autumn kicks in will do nicely. Good to see you a little more cheerful m8, that's what a visit to Wyming can do.😀
It lifted me, but I’m still under the weather…. Such as the weather is….
Didn’t realise it was back open. Will get myself over there in the next few weeks. Great vid and some nice shots 👍
Have fun!
Brilliant shots yet again Eddie! Thoroughly enjoyed that one. It'd be great to see you sit down and talk us through some of your portfolio shots and compositions... Maybe save that for a rainy day 😅
Great idea!
Wanky ,mystical shots ??? You will be hereby known as Wankalf Tossing wizard of the Canon. Great video (as always) and brilliant images .
I accept that title. Gracefully.
Certainly a different approach there Mr S. Some nice aspects of the brook as well.
Thanks Paul. I always think that rather saying ‘this is how it’s done’, which would be ridiculous, it’s better to simply say, ‘this is how I do it.’
Nice video Eddie with some lovely shots, particularly liked the one at 8.20 although you only put this up briefly. Good to see you in a happy place and obviously really enjoying taking your time finding nice compositions. 👏👏
Thanks, yeah definitely happier after a week of feeling miserable due to a bloody nasty cold. It was a lovely morning there. I spent a lot of time just sitting and watching the brook. Highly recommended. If you want to see any of the shots just let me know and I’ll add them to Facebook/Instagram
Eddie it would be good to see your settings for each shot. But another great vid
Thanks Stephen, I’m a lazy prick. If you ever want to know the settings of a shot or any spec of gear just ask. Always happy to share.
Great video as always Eddie , and love the banter between you and Craig! 🤣 I was thinking about you the other day while walking around Knypersley Pool.. there's some great compositions to be had there, reflections in the lake, woodland all around, wildlife galore, and a hidden waterfall too! It'd probably qualify for one of your "easy walk" videos too 😀 I know it's not Peak District we all love but it's close to Stoke and a great undiscovered place for photographers! That said, so is Biddulph Grange. (Not the grange gardens but the free place 😅) It's a gold mine for compositions. It's right up your street mate 👍 the old woodland there is super special, and you get the place to yourself which is what we all want!! Sorry I'm rambling now haha 😂
I visit Knypersley frequently, it’s a cracking walk. It also has the small waterfall that’s great for anyone practicing their long exposure techniques. Also some very bold squirrels :)
@@EddieSkelson I'd love to see you do a video there! Those squirrels are little rascals 🤣
The UA-cam gods (or maybe it's just my crippling nostalgia for Stoke's finest Greggs) keep blessing me with your videos. Eddie, watching you wrestle a camera like it owes you money while grumbling about the weather is pure cinematic gold. It's basically David Attenborough narrating the mating rituals of a particularly disgruntled badger. Speaking of hustle, I saw your Kickstarter... one reward? Come on, Eddie! Where's the Stoke spirit? I was hoping for a signed copy dipped in a puddle of chip shop gravy (it's Stoke, innit?) or maybe a limited edition porcelain figurine of the Apocalypse Cow riding a pigeon. But hey, beggars can't be choosers, right? Anyway, keep up the good work, mate. Here's a fellow Stokie living the dream on the other side of the world. In my spare time, I scale mountaintops and bellow Pratchett quotes at bewildered chickens ("All gods are bastards!") during the occasional typhoon. Hoodies entirely optional, because real Stokies embrace the elements (and pneumonia, apparently). P.S. Check out Eddie's link to his Kickstarter for anyone else who wants to support Stoke's finest photographer (and possible future chicken whisperer): www.kickstarter.com/projects/eddieskelson/eddie-skelson-peak-district-photographer
Cheers Paul, they will always bless you if you are Subscribed.
Fingers crossed you reach your target, it's not an unrealistic target
Cheers. Always trying to keep it real.
Nice video - pledged your book under my full name Wayne Andrew Dibble - looking forward to getting a signed copy of your book, and print...
Thanks fella! Fingers crossed it gets to target!
Nice one Eddie, last time I went there I got chased of by a snow bank coming in. Did a quick runner back to the car, sorry didn't turn up the other day to pester you we had to cancel the eye test appointment wife wasn't well booked back in for Thursday probably see you then. Got some great cottage info in South Wales magic place.
Excellent! Look forward to seeing you. I’m currently suffering from a thick Cold so my mood is not great. Apologies in advance.
Eyup Eddie. Years ago (1999-2000 to be precise) I was a student at Cliff College and became very familiar with Curbar Edge, Froggatt Edge and Baslow Edge! In fact we used to sometimes drive to one of them, stand at the Edge in question, and scream at the top of our lungs when things got..shall we say..a little frustrating! 😂😂
THIS actually has some resonance with me. My first trip to the Roaches (as an adult) was due to leaving my workplace one day in a mood that would have resulted in the maiming of colleagues… or at least some man-tears. Being up there, with that wind slicing through me quickly cooled me down.
I would get a refund on that bug spray, they followed you all the way through the video. I hope you cheer up a little for the next meet up 🤣
Didn’t bite me though, did they Bilbo?
One of the areas for my 5 views in 5 hours plan, definitely loollks like a great spot end it.
Walking from Baslow to Curbar is excellent. The view gradually changes and of course if you have ‘interesting’ weather it can add to the experience.
The sore throat is from the geo engineering. They’re spraying us like bugs with Strontium, Barium and Aluminium. They’re flying from East Midlands and Cardiff airports. Get yourself some 3% food grade Hydrogen Peroxide from Bobby’s Health Shop and gargle with it.
It’s definitely that or a cold
Hi Eddie. Great advice about always taking your phone. Four weeks ago, I was taking photos around MamTor and The Great Ridge early one morning, and while heading down from the ridge towards the broken road I slipped on wet grass, dislocating and fracturing my ankle in three places as well as breaking my fibula. Thankfully I had my phone and was able to call an ambulance who used what3words to pinpoint my location. Edale Mountain Rescue Team did a fantastic job of getting me down on a stretcher. I've got a long period of recuperation ahead, but I'm spending the time usefully by working my way through your videos.
It’s super important to, at the very least, make sure people who will worry know where you are in case you can’t use the phone. I wish you a speedy recovery, I’ve been very lucky not to have damaged myself more severely on many of my trips and while I preach safety and pragmatism I’m the worst for following my own advice when I think there may be a cool shot ahead of me, despite the wind, rain, alligators etc…
@@EddieSkelson Thanks Eddie. I'm certainly going to be a lot more wary in future and not take any risks. I actually met you on my first visit to Padley Gorge last October, but I'm ashamed to say that I didn't know who you were at the time. I've been catching up on several years worth of videos since then, so I'll definitely stop you for a chat next time.
10:55 Great shot Ed
Cheers Paul!
Hi Eddie I'm glad I'm not the only one who forgets the 10s or 2s timer!! Bloody annoying 😊 I've also been caught out getting up on top in the height of summer in the mid-20's with no jacket then having to come down before sunset cause it's so cold. Great advice regarding carrying your phone when out on your own. I also have a battery pack if I know I'm going out for a long time. I've recently stayed over at The Roaches in the van it's fantastic on a weekday evening. So quiet. It's still one of my favourite locations being under an hours drive for me
All the advice is based on experience mate, and it’s not always a good experience that produces good advice! The Roaches are a wonderful area. I think the only thing it’s missing is a decent waterfall, but Three Shires Head isn’t too far to cap a day off with that absolute icon.
You earned the instant Sub at "Top tier wankery" 🤣.
Lol. Thank you.
Good on you for putting that message out there. Some cracking images there, I was not expecting a mention of Vasquez Rocks in a landscape photography vlog, if I could I’d hit like twice I would. 🖖

I’m jelly. Got to visit soon or get you over here to Arizona once the 100-120 degree days are over for some desert content :)
The 120 degree deserts can kiss my pole.
The link to what happened to Dr Mosely and you last time out was real, could have gone seriously wrong.
Yup. No excuses from me and lesson learned.
Was that tonight Tuesday 18th June? I was sitting on the other end of the ridge above Valkyrie etc ,
Monday! I saw a break in the weather and went for it.
Great vlog Ed, love the images. I have some decent images from a Hen cloud sunset. Sat up there till the sun went down.I'm in Hanley on Thursday about 12. I will pop in and bore you.👍👍
See you then!
Actually you are right Ed that tower is a communications tower, they are built all over Britain. Solid concert bases. the idea was in a nuclear war we could still communicate.
Apocalypse plan building….
My piece of shitcam is a Canon G1X. I bought it years ago thinking it'll be handy because it has a hotshoe for the speedlite. To this day I've never fitted the speedlite to it.
Speedlites are Satan’s work.
Best in B&W, gets rid of the green problem at this time of year.
Definitely one of the weapons against awfulness in a Landscape Photographers arsenal
Hey dude, spoke to you yesterday in your store, just thought I'd drop a comment to say hi. The cinematography in the intro is beautiful, man. Really enjoyed your videos so far. All the best.
Awesome, thank you! I hope you'll find some inspiration in them!
Ha bunch of bastards, Classic that Ed. lol.
Can’t trust em
Do not despair, gravity loves us, but most uphill ;O)
Gravity is a hate crime.
@@EddieSkelson But challenging it makes us look younger and healthier. I am 77 and walk a lot with my camera, and no one will believe that I am a day over 75.
cracking video Eddie i love snowdonia and its amazing there are so many places with great views. I've just come back from snowdonia after doing aran fawddwy & was doing cadair Idris but the weather and cloud cover made us change our mind and we went in search of a secret waterfall. im just doing my video now of aran fawddwy but still need to sort the waterfall walk out but it was amazing.
Awesome! It's a really beautiful place to explore, the added bonus is of course the coast and I hope to do some Seascapes soon.
@@EddieSkelson id recommend Barmouth that is on the estuary of the Afon Mawddach and Cardigan Bay I've posted some pics of a little outing there and there is a lovely church nestled on the hillside looking down into the town as well as a nice harbor with plenty of boat including an old lifeboat
Eddie, What a cracking video and stunning scenery and shots from said scenery. Looking forward to seeing some more buddy. Glen.
Cheers Glen. Hopefully more to come!
Ay up Eddie, slate will contain fossils it's compressed mud, I used to work at Hem Heath colliery and we had a seam through a roadway at 1062 yards deep .. that had load of insect and plant fossils in it. Think the museum even came down and photographed it. Great start to the vlog but some horrendous climbs back up. Like the shots of the tree. was it Denorwig. slate quarry? nothing seemed familiar.
Thanks Alan, it is indeed Dinorwic, although I think I took the mentalists route. I’m going to be looking for fossils in all that slate next time.
*This is definitely my hiking style, loved it. Loved the scenery, the history and the drama*
When I return I’ll be well read on the area.
You did great Eddie but the slope to the barracks is an even worse I was there with @karenlawrence spikeymouse photography it killed us but worth it as is the wonderful lonely tree , well done though and all the best
Cheers! I’ll be back there soon so those damn barracks will be mine!
I'll try my best mate. Keep doing the vloggs I think they are great and very informative. And I love how you are just yourself. I don't think I am true to myself while filming I need to change my presenting style
Just do it how it makes you feel happy, Danny. Best advice I can offer.
That impression of Henry Turner! 🤣🤣Nothing like him at all, but funny nonetheless! 😁😁 Thanks for mentioning wheelchair access Eddie, or should I say the lack of it!😄😄I would normally say I can get where water can't get but yes, I think I would end up coming a cropper there!
It’s a real shame, if there are vehicles out there with magnificent suspension then it might be doable but it’s not something I’d try without seeing some other maniac giving it a go first.
@@EddieSkelson It can be done, but the 'Off Road' wheelchairs that are available are ridiculously expensive! I looked into getting one but the cheapest one was about £11,000!
I think sometimes you need a tough day, it’s not fun but is grounding. I learn more from failure than success whether in myself or my photography. But another excellent video Eddie
Thanks Steve, if I wasn’t able to moan I wouldn’t be happy.
Cheers Eddie yes already have a spare battery. Looking forward to getting stuck in with it. I am just converting half of my garage into a studio. If you ever fancy trying some still life let me know.
I see you have the mic as well. Good call. Just don't lose it. Over and over again...
To get to the interesting stuff in the quarry, you need to hop over the fences (with keep out signs) and go higher up. Perhaps meet up sometime and I can show the areas I’d recommend
I’ve got a hot date with CraigYates there at some point, but I’m a bit of a prude when it comes to fence hopping. If the fence is down, I’m fine with it, but the fences there are very sturdy (they look pretty new actually).
@@EddieSkelson I was there recently, visited multiple times over circa 10 years, explored most areas, included tunnels etc. you’ll need multiple visits unlock what is has to offer
@@andypoole1515 it looked immense. I was really impressed despite my moaning.
Great informative video Eddie. I jhave just got the DJI pocket 3 myself. ,.
Excellent. It's a fantastic piece of kit. Just remember that its fragile and NOT water resistant. Its a fair-weather vlogging unit for sure. But the sound is very good (except in rough wind) and you might want to consider an extra battery if you don't already have one as you will cane it just because its so good.
The route to the barracks is down the track at 11 minutes 39 secs in.
Craig Yates has already been griefing me… thanks for the info mate.
@@EddieSkelson got to go back and watch now.
Also the mountain you question is Snowdon itself, or Yr Wyddfa in Welsh 🙂
A runner informed me! I should have realised how close all of these things were, especially as it’s the same in the Peak.
