  • I took a leisurely stroll into Padley Gorge (I’ll be back here soon) and thought I would show you how I go about combatting the GREEN of our magnificent Summer woodland and forests.
It can be difficult to work these areas without excellent light and environmental conditions but I do feel it is still possible to pull out the character of a scene with a good set up and some ‘modest’ adjustments in Photoshop or Lightroom.
I hope you enjoy this one.

I was there last Friday morning. The sun was bright, and the light harsh. I tried to take the almost exact same composition you did at 5 mins in. I really struggled, and ended up converting to black and white. it still didn't make my list of keepers. Well done!

I always feel the need to find something to overcome either the tyranny of plain blue sky’s or the tyranny of green at this time of year. So B&W can for example change the tonal balance as with using a green filter for film or a green bias in digital to lighten ‘greens’ and bring out the darker tones, trees etc, as contrast. Or just go infrared which works brilliantly just for fun factor.

I want to have a bash at Infrared.

75% of my pictures are taken with a 18-140mm DX lens....I hate carrying gear! I do have other gear but its not worth selling! and its all good gear! I am happy with what I have got! Thank you for sharing your photography and your thoughts on lenses with us....

The camera you have with you is always the right one. Everything else is gravy.

Hi Eddie, Have you tried using a black border when showing the finished results? The images are great as you're zooming out but, as soon as the white border comes into view it pulls you eyes away from the scene. The white is distracting and spoils the impact for me.

I’ve been experimenting with different presentations (you may have seen this in some previous vlogs) and am looking at a better, more dynamic way of showing off the compositions.
The issue is that the style I like is hard work and I’m lazy. The next vlog will have a few new style choices (if all goes well) so I’ll look forward to everyone’s opinion.

Eddie - have you thought of trying Infrared black and white on such days?

I do utilise Black and White (you may see some in the next Vlog) but for this I wanted use the green rather than avoid it.
When shooting B&W I prefer to have the R5 set to monochrome and not rely on dropping the colour in post. I feel it gives a more authentic, wanky, result.
