  • My first visit to the beautiful Consall Valley woodland had been going well enough, but when I stumbled (literally, I tripped up) upon the fantastic, preserved rail station, got to see inside a working Signal Box and have the run of the platforms to photograph majestic, beast level steam locomotives my day was absolutely complete.

The carpets of bluebells and wild garlic are about half a mile down the canal towards Hetty's tea room (Kingsley). They come right down to the canal side so no massive climb. Not thought of shooting the trains must give it a go, nice one Eddie.👍

Cheers Alan, I’ll be doing a lot more investigating of this side of the county.

Very nice video Eddie, loved the woodland photographs. I’ve not been there other than when the railway has a special event on so maybe it’s worth a photography trip on its own.

Thank you Steve. By pure chance I arrived during a Steam Gala, so I really dropped on.

I'm so glad that you've gotten down to Consall. It's one of my favourite places. I'll nip down there with you and possibly show you a few routes if you fancy it one day 😊 I've just got a permit to fish down there so will be there a bit in the summer.

Would love it. Except for the fishing bit. I can stare at a bath for a few hours.

Hello my friend! Looking at it, I think this might be a place I could visit, but it'd have to be during a dry spell due to the mud! Could get messy and I wouldn't want to get stuck in my powerchair! Does look lovely though! 😊😊 You're right about the bringing of food and especially drink! I can guarantee that the one time I forget to bring my flask, it's the one time I get thirsty!

There’s a road route (it’s a country dirt road mind) that takes you alongside the woodland and on to the Station and the Black Lion pub. Obviously the terrain going into the woodland is going to be difficult but there is a path… of sorts. It ‘might’ be accessible but I would err on the side of caution.
The birdsong was incredible though. Something I didn’t make a fuss of in the Vlog and should have done.

Brilliant Eddie love the steam train my youngest keeps asking to go on the one in the peak district. Love the waterside to so many birds to get a crafty snap of. 😊

Thanks James. It’s well worth visiting Foxfield/Cheddleton. The whole experience is nostalgic for some, awesome for others. Highly recommended.

Cheers! Have a great day. Note, it might be better to head to Foxfield or Cheddleton as I’m not sure Consall does anything outside of event days.

Visited here once, we got stalked by a duck 😂, kids always talk about it. Loads of dragonflies too. Great point about the bag reviews.
