Time Building vs. Time HAVING
Time Building vs. Time Having
Accumulation of time is a farce. Time is fleeting, slipping, vanishing.
In aviation you hear the term “time building” all the time. It makes me wince when it passes me by. I get what it is - a simple term describing the process of logging enough time to meet the minimum requirements of hours flown in order to be eligible to fly professionally for an airline.
Even still, for me it lacks imagination and diminishes the beauty of the pursuit of flight time. Time building versus time HAVING. Have time. Own that time. Be fully in that time.

the LONGEST most UNWATCHABLE flying video in HISTORY and also mountain flying
Переглядів 1,5 тис.28 днів тому
the longest most unwatchable flying video in history no narration. no music. just flying and whatever. I flew with my friend Luke to the TN/NC/GA mountains to do some mountain flying and have some fun. It was an amazing day - kind of too much to document but we did what we could. The main thing is I figured why not just put it out with no real editing other than the footage itself. Maybe people...
Keeping Up

Keeping up. We are all mired in things we have to do… or so we think… Here I am flying into an airport at night to do my night currency landings. We have to do 3 landings at night to a full stop in order to legally be able to carry passengers at night. It has been tough lately to keep up. To keep up with responsibilities, making a living with creative work projects, and definitely to keep up th...

Tight patterns in GUSTY crosswinds | Piper Cherokee 180

I continue to experiment with landings in as many ways as I can. These were not especially good landings - but coming in on a tight base to final gives little time to sort out the gusts - which was the aim - fly tight patterns in gusty winds and see how that goes. Going up for pattern work when conditions are a little challenging takes enough mental energy that you cannot think about anything e...

Reception can be poor around JWN at low altitude near BNA, and I needed to open my squelch to hear BNA tracon upon calling them up. I was a moment slow to open the squelch, and missed the instruction to remain clear of the Class C. I requested flight following, was issued a squawk code, and began to climb into the Class C per normal. The controller after issuing the squawk and me reading back, ...

What is tailwheel flying? The question is the answer. Let me elaborate. Not a day goes by that I don’t feel the ache in the dead center of my chest - because every day I want to ask my dad something about flying. I want to tell him about my flying. I want to have all those conversations pilots have with each other. I want him to know I became a pilot. I learned. I felt the disappointments… conq...

You weren’t looking at the ailerons when you said the controls were free and correct. That’s just phoning in the checklist. And is that all being done by memory? I never saw a card or electronic checklist being used.
@RetreadPhoto editing is wild you should check it out! There's no landing either but I definitely did. 🤣
Just want to add that every time I fly with Brian not only does he do the control check pre takeoff. But also pre start, pre taxi, during taxi, and if there are any cockpit changes. I’m a stickler on free and smooth controls and Brian makes me assured every time in that aspect. His attention to detail is more disciplined than a lot of pilots I’ve flown with in even jets and large multi’s. Pretty dang cool and inspiring to fly with
this video is it
Thank you for the not so subtle reminder to live in the moment. I carry this thought with me in every flight now!
Just over 500 myself and right there with you. Never been bored a moment I was up there and always a little distracted when I had to call "full stop". Closest thing to actual magic I have ever experienced.
Congrats on 500 hours! A great accomplishment. And thanks for the video and the message.
What could be better than flying with a friend to meet someone named "Crazy Mike?" Great, thought-provoking story, as always, my friend. Best ending on the internet.
Great video and great message. Love the line " And you have to land airplanes on them." BTW, who was your passenger? He looks familiar.
@@justaboutaviation9343 that's @lukeslanding 💯
Nice video! Enjoyed the aviation conversation along the way! Excellent video editing.
That monolog got me man. 😢 time is a wastin'
Beautiful video as always. Btw I know other centers don’t insist on this as much, but the confusion you had there as to whether you were VFR or IFR is why Seattle center insists that anytime you check in with a new controller you state your altitude and “VFR” if that’s the case. 👍🙌🏻
Thanks for the info!
That was the fault of yours truly. A bit rusty, but Brian has been kind enough to let me ease my way back into comms and nav.
Great content man
You are a philosopher pilot. Love the message.
Great video of your trip to Centre! Loved the en....
6:35 anyone named "crazy mike" is a leadup for a good story. love the 140 story. 15:50 "I'm still here" 17:00 I love that "I'm not worried about your altitude". I'm always annoyed when I'm within rounding distance of the hemisphere. 17:30 oh good! this is what I was waiting for. what a journey, thinking about what these 500 hours represent.
One of your best. Time having is what I’ll refer to flying from now on. And also, perfect ending to the video 💯
Like the spoken word bro. Keep it up
"I'm jumping out"! I subscribed for that.....
The video looks like an old King flight training video. Just kidding though, it's informative.
This is the biggest compliment lol😂
Hi all, this is Jetstreamjockey's wife, we found him halfway through this video mumbling, please stop it, please stop it! 🤣🤣😂
I'm gonna watch it all the way through just out of spite to the title!
I love spite.. my favorite motivator! Thank you!
1:15:32 and still going.....
things I noticed: - ahhh the anxiety of missing a call with cockpit conversation - 30:00 it's interesting when you can hear an incorrect readback, even if it takes a couple of listens - 46:30 I had trouble judging height at Catalina too! I kept saying "I'm flying the numbers" for altitude. - 1:16:16 "wish I had a filter" .. two seconds later the main gopro stops down the aperture, lol. - 1:13:40 lolol wind missing
I love no narration and especially no stupid background music.
I really enjoyed this. Took me all day to get to the end. It really was like being a fly on the wall.
That was a sporty landing at 24a, well done indeed! VFR me bro and the line crew pulling that jet made me laugh out loud 😆. Great stuff!
thanks man still no idea why they were pulling that jet!
Great video guys!
This was one of the best aviation experiences I’ve had yet. If you get the chance to have a flight with Brian, it’s one you’ll remember. Peak general aviation in my book.
meant to ask if you got tetanus from this trip
I love longer, uncut videos because I get to see a pilot's procedures and thought processes. I often learn something applicable to my own flying.
hope I did something right in there
Very cool. Been meaning to fly up to 24A. Nice to see a well-done and in-depth video of the complete approach and departure.
Well worth it! I watched this, a true in depth look at operations there: ua-cam.com/video/MVJlEBUbgBQ/v-deo.htmlsi=B6oNR19fToh4ommW
@@BrianSiskind Ah cool, thanks for the link!
Have always enjoyed Luke’s vids & yours also. What a collab!
Yeah! He is making a video with the same footage... which is kind of why I just let it roll on this one.
I sure am glad to be a part of the MLPP community and get to know folks like you, and hear stories like this, which are so much more personal now I know you! Gooood stuff man!
Thanks brother!
This is why we are MLPP listeners. As always, Brian- a beautiful story, beautifully told.
Another really good video! I always enjoy the slower pace compared to most videos on UA-cam these days! Thanks for sharing!
I appreciate that thanks for watching!
This one hit home in a different way for me, but was spot on for what's going on. No indoor pools for me, but completely mired in things I have to do, with little time to myself. This was very uplifting for me. Thank you!
Thank you sir!
Always makes me happy to get a blend of your aviation and film maker experience rolled into another terrific video 🙌
Night flying is ace. Something special about it.
Great video Brian! Another awesome cinematic experience!
Love the serenity of night flying. Like the “S,” too.
That was fun! I enjoyed the unexpected flexibility of the controller.
Yeah it was nice to have a laugh with her.
Enjoyed that!
New videos soon?
Working on it!
because of your voice overs and style...you are one of the few aviation posters I don't keep skipping ahead...I used to think 3000-4000 foot runway was small...now I look at that runway and think it's same length as where I live but twice as wide with no trees...time changes perspectives...my dad has a masters in TV production and man his first camera with VHS tapes was heavy...one of these days I will start making some engaging videos...keep it up
Some of us ask why we cannot simply find something and stick with it. I'd say that some of us are born to explore and conquer, while others are better at building societies and permanence. Neither is right or wrong - just different. Jack of all trades and master of none. I can live with that. Whether intentional or not, your narration gave way to the sterile cockpit when it mattered most. I really enjoyed your video and certainly identified with it.
You're a gifted filmmaker and writer and storyteller. This spoke to me more than anything I've seen in a long time. Thank you!
Awesome message. Thanks for the affirmation.
Thank you! I really needed this today.
Love this! Look forward to meeting you at the Nashville Fly In.
What Nashville Fly In? Send details
Very thought provoking and beautifully told. And you just gave me another place to add to my bucket list!
Wow what a beautiful video, thank you for sharing it. I can relate to this. I think some people just mainly do one thing their entire life, and other continue doing, one thing after the other.
What a coincidence this posts the day I become a pilot! Throughout all my training training I've had so many regrets for not starting sooner, knowing that aviation has always been at the core of my being since my earliest memories. Now being on top of this proverbial PPL hill, I can see clearly that it's so much better to be here later than to have never been here at all. Thanks for all you do and how you have chosen to share your gifts, thoughts and experience with the world!
Great video! I definitely needed to hear this - I have been stuck in life. Those ten minutes have made me understand what I should be doing with my life. And it's not too late. Stop having fear and step out on faith. Thank you.
Yes! So glad this resonated with you. I think being "stuck" is sometimes necessary to build the tension needed to catapult to the next thing. All the best!
