- Time Building vs. Time Having
Accumulation of time is a farce. Time is fleeting, slipping, vanishing.
In aviation you hear the term “time building” all the time. It makes me wince when it passes me by. I get what it is - a simple term describing the process of logging enough time to meet the minimum requirements of hours flown in order to be eligible to fly professionally for an airline.
Even still, for me it lacks imagination and diminishes the beauty of the pursuit of flight time. Time building versus time HAVING. Have time. Own that time. Be fully in that time.

Nice video! Enjoyed the aviation conversation along the way! Excellent video editing.
What could be better than flying with a friend to meet someone named "Crazy Mike?" Great, thought-provoking story, as always, my friend. Best ending on the internet.
Just over 500 myself and right there with you. Never been bored a moment I was up there and always a little distracted when I had to call "full stop".
Closest thing to actual magic I have ever experienced.
Congrats on 500 hours! A great accomplishment. And thanks for the video and the message.
Thank you for the not so subtle reminder to live in the moment. I carry this thought with me in every flight now!
One of your best. Time having is what I’ll refer to flying from now on. And also, perfect ending to the video 💯
this video is it
6:35 anyone named "crazy mike" is a leadup for a good story.
love the 140 story.
15:50 "I'm still here"
17:00 I love that "I'm not worried about your altitude". I'm always annoyed when I'm within rounding distance of the hemisphere.
17:30 oh good! this is what I was waiting for. what a journey, thinking about what these 500 hours represent.
You are a philosopher pilot. Love the message.
Great video of your trip to Centre! Loved the en....
Beautiful video as always. Btw I know other centers don’t insist on this as much, but the confusion you had there as to whether you were VFR or IFR is why Seattle center insists that anytime you check in with a new controller you state your altitude and “VFR” if that’s the case. 👍🙌🏻
Thanks for the info!
That was the fault of yours truly. A bit rusty, but Brian has been kind enough to let me ease my way back into comms and nav.
That monolog got me man. 😢 time is a wastin'
Great content man
Great video and great message. Love the line " And you have to land airplanes on them." BTW, who was your passenger? He looks familiar.
@@justaboutaviation9343 that's @lukeslanding 💯
You weren’t looking at the ailerons when you said the controls were free and correct. That’s just phoning in the checklist. And is that all being done by memory? I never saw a card or electronic checklist being used.
@RetreadPhoto editing is wild you should check it out! There's no landing either but I definitely did. 🤣
Just want to add that every time I fly with Brian not only does he do the control check pre takeoff. But also pre start, pre taxi, during taxi, and if there are any cockpit changes. I’m a stickler on free and smooth controls and Brian makes me assured every time in that aspect. His attention to detail is more disciplined than a lot of pilots I’ve flown with in even jets and large multi’s. Pretty dang cool and inspiring to fly with
