Very nice "center"! Looks like you found it on every landing. Your nose wheel could have painted it. Noticed the chaotic jazz sax after your run-up, love how you used the chaos throughout the video with every changing pattern. With you, the best just keep getting better my friend. Now, I need to get my a$$ in the pattern! (I love power off 180's)
Nicely done! Great video and flying. Nice cadence. A tip for smooth centerline landings is, over the threshold, bring the power to idle (as long as everything is normal) and just let the plane come right on down and flare so the plane is about a foot over the runway and jiust hold it there and let the speed bleed off. As it does, the tail will begin to go down, as it does, just relax some of your hold and let it softly touch. Be aware that as the speed bleeds off, your rudder authority will diminish with lower speed, so you may need to increase your rudder input. Don't be afraid to dance on the rudders to keep that centerline perfect at low speed. Nice music selection and presentation, looks like a professional production. Take care!
Haha yes in a hershey bar Cherokee pulling power to idle in ground effect means dropping instantly 😆 I am always experimenting! Glad you liked the video thanks man!
I enjoyed the video! Looked like a lovely day to fly. Tower is ok with you staying in the pattern? Sometimes it’s nice to hit a quiet, uncontrolled airport to do pattern work. The controller seemed very nice and accommodating. My CFI would tell me to get out of the busy class D for pattern work. We had a lot of helicopters around…rotor wash was something to watch out for. Atc once saw me dance on departure and thought I was avoiding birds. I now allow more than ample time for the wash to dissipate. Keep the videos coming!
It was a great Sunday morning indeed! Yes tower is fine with pattern work there, lots of training during the week there. My mission was to sort out flying a tighter pattern on that particular runway/airport. I trained at JWN - not sure why people are shy about flying there - but I guess it's what you are used to. I prefer towered for pattern work if possible.
7:30 were you using the tone of the engine as part of your music? If that was intentional, it was genius!!!! If it was accidental, it was still beautiful
Reactions - as they happen: It's interesting to me how you equate proficiency with jazz. Something that is completely foreign to me. Yet I can relate to the dance of a good short approach landing. Trading a little of this for a little of something else... not too much. There that. That reminds me of coding. Of trying to extract the absolute maximum out of a machine that the designer didn't know it could or would do. Which suggests an unexpected transitive relationship: is coding like jazz? I can only see one half of the picture. But this video gives me a view into the other half. And let's me conclude: maybe. 17:55 you missed a chance at one of my favorite radio calls: "Number 2, Runway 2, Cleared for the option" Really love the ultra wide format of your videos. I feel much more engaged. I need to put a camera on my tail tie down so I can see my landings.
I love that line "unexpected transitive relationship"... gonna ponder that... and everything is like jazz because jazz is everything! Thanks for the watch and the words!
great landings great editing...you can keep me engaged watching a runup...doesn't look like you need any advice you worked it all out on your own but as for me I found a couple seconds of centerline slow flight with a touch of power makes consistent smooth landings...as for power off landings just doing reps helps...recently following someone else doing wide patterns while I was trying to do power off 180s demonstrated for me when I said to myself oh well let's see if I have a chance if I pull it where they turned base uh nope
Love the introspection combined with experimentation. 11:40 "short approach?" "squeeze play", heh. 13:0016:3527:15 look at you aiming for the numbers! 28:10 even if not pretty, they were good. The controller really seemed to trust you once you were in the pattern for a bit. I like to think that you scrambled to put this vid together after seeing my centerline fails :)
Yeah I think when she saw I was keeping things tight she knew she could throw me a squeeze 🤣 Thanks man and yeah you always sort out your landings well, and do that in much more challenging places!
Fun video. The addition of Coltrane to flying made your steep approaches seem all the more cool. Also: fascinated by the jazz harp.
Me toooo! I love her records they've been critical for me for decades. Thanks for watching glad you enjoyed it!
You are the only person I know that can make pattern work art. Well done.
Thanks man... perhaps there is a reason no one does this kind of thing 😅
Great video. I just became a supporter of the midlife pilot podcast. Thanks for both
Thanks Adam! 🙏

Thanks my man yeah get some work in!
This is epic
Nicely done! Good old TnG practice is where it is at. Reminds me I need to do the same! Excellent video!
Thanks Nate! If you see anything I can do better let me know! (Just don't bill me) 🤣🙏

Very cool. Im jealous. !! i don't have half the talent you have
thanks but nothing to be jealous of here! just hammering out mediocre landings and having fun :)
Well does. Thanks for your thoughts and the flight. KAPF
Thanks for watching!
