Must-Do Motorhome Maintenance Tasks For Beginners
Hello everyone,
We carried some essential maintenance tasks on Florrie.
Cleaning Fresh Water and Waste tanks
Grey Waste Pipe assessment
Battery Top Up
In addition we attempted the jigsaw of making up the front bed in our Bailey Adamo
Hope this is of use to Motorhome beginners, and maybe others too.

    Very useful video. Like the pipet idea, I've been using a funnel on the battery which isn't easy. Will change it when I can. Don't know why Bailey can't supply up-to-date instructions for the van, it would take minutes to do that on a pdf. I guess yours, like mine are from 2020.

      😃😃. That’s it Bruce. You’re welcome anytime! No we don’t have air con. We bought a portable unit but we reckon it’s too big to fit comfortably in the van! 🤦🏻‍♂️. Trouble is, anything smaller would t be very effective. Fortunately, this Summer has been so cool and wet, we’ve had no need for an aircon 😃 Actually it’s unfortunate 😃 We have it at home, and we have only needed it once so far this Summer and it’s mid July! And the forecast isn’t great this week either Crazy times Bruce.

      @@NBNatureTrailvan We are in our 5th straight day of +40C feel-like temps here...the portable unit I have in the livingroom goes on as soon as I get up and stays on until we go to bed. Thanks Donna. A labour of love this! What is Frank doing! 😃. Well so far a little better than previous years. They still have four cygnets. In previous years he’s taken the family out on to the big lake and they haven’t lasted long! But we think that this year is different, in that as water levels are much higher, there is enough food for the cygnets on his little mere so he hasn’t had to take them anywhere else. Isn’t nature wonderful! We always learn so much every time we go out. Thanks for the kind comments Donna, and hope you’re having a great weekend 👍👍

I’m not much of a DIY er so I have to make a conscious effort to make sure everything is ship shape 😃 We haven’t been out in Florrie for three weeks! I think it’s the longest gap yet. Getting stir crazy!! There’s been a lot going on at hone so there hasn’t been a minute. But so far, we’ve tried to make sure that we have at least one week per month out in the van. A couple of trips planned for July and August and then we’re braving a European trip for the whole of September! Really looking forward to it but a bit nervous too. 😃 Hope you guys are having a good weekend 👍👍

      Hi, we have a 75 4i with similar front bed. If you have two adults using it, those black brackets bend VERY easily. If you get two triangular blocks made up, to fill in void in the brackets. It stops them bending and they're much more sturdy. We are enjoying your vids cheers!

    The social life of Mute Swans is a wonder and so many people are not aware of the complexities of life in the lakes, forests and ponds around us. From the challenge of finding a mate and then staying together through the years as humans, pikes, other predators and changing climate makes things difficult for them. So these stories are about Mute Swans, but also about bigger issues and for us to reflect on! And it must also be very satisfying when you find new things to wonder about as you follow them from a distance, or up close when the chance is there:) Have a great week in the south mate! It’s strange, we haven’t been around as much here as you know, but there is still a thrill when we come upon one or more of the pairs and their cygnets. I need to find Claude and Maude - they’re just so good at hiding away with their cygnets in all of the small meres around the Gravel Pits. I think that’s why they are always so successful! We can’t work out why Frank has (mostly) stayed put. It could well be that the higher water levels are providing more food on his little mere than in previous years. Hi Dave and Sue. Another excellent video on setting up your motorhome. One of the issues I have had in the past is the electric cable becoming difficult to get back onto the reel because the three internal wires had become twisted over time within the outer cable. I now always carefully roll out the cable from the reel ensuring that I keep it nice and straight on the ground. I was also quite surprised to see you opening your fresh water tank to check the water level. I tend to rely on the gauge which I know isnt particularly accurate and will only open my tank probably as little as once a year when I clean it with puriclean. However we do use bottled water for drinking and for the kettle just to be safe. Best wishes Dave PS Looking forward to your next trip to Scotland 👍

    • @NBNatureTrailvan
      @NBNatureTrailvan 5 днів тому

      Hi David. Very kind of you as always 🙏🙏 You’re right on the electric cable - I made the mistake initially of just letting it fall off the reel (as I did on this vid for speed) and found it was a real pain to get back on every time. So I always now reel it back in properly. Always so much to learn David! The water gauge on the Adamo is pretty hopeless. We’ve re configured it a few times but it’s still only about 75% accurate. So we have always double checked the fill. I made the mistake of forgetting one day and had a flood. As the speed of water from the hose was greater than the overflow pipe could cope with. Again, won’t do that again! 😃 We add purifying tablets to the tank each fill - and even then we only use bottled water or boiled. We’ve also just cleaned the tanks out. You just can’t be too careful. We’re having a holiday with our daughter and grandkids in November in the Lakes. But will hopefully take the opportunity for a week on Arran. Nothing booked as yet but hoping we can visit beautiful Scotland again. Definitely coming up in the spring again whatever happens in November! Have a good week ahead David 👍👍👍

    Probably different here in Canada, but we do experience surges in electric power, so always had a surge protector hooked up to the power at a campsite first. Interesting with the water. Are you able to connect to the water with a hose and run the water directly from the tap, or do you have to fill the motorhome tanks for water? I could do both, but if running water, or even filling, I'd use a filter attached to the hose and also have attached a pressure regulating valve, as both quality of water and pressures can vary tremendously over here. Looking great and all becomes pretty quick and easy over time!

    • @NBNatureTrailvan
      @NBNatureTrailvan 7 днів тому

      Hi Bruce mate Hope you and Otis are doing well. We don’t get surges of power here (or if we do we havent experienced them)🤞🤞🤞 We have to fill the water tank Bruce. We have three ways to do that. Via a hose connection drawn in by a pump, via an Aquaroll 40 litre portable tank which you fill up and roll to the van or finally by a simple hose through the “garage” on the van into the tank. We don’t use a filter but we do use purifying tablets in the tank. We don’t use the tank for drinking water (in theory we could once purified) we use bottled water or purified water into containers. The water pressure isn’t a problem - or hasn’t been so far! I have flooded the van once 🤦🏻‍♂️🤦🏻‍♂️🤦🏻‍♂️. But that was me getting relaxed on the third tank fill on a day where we were running a cleanser through the tank 🤦🏻‍♂️🤦🏻‍♂️. Fortunately just some wet carpets!! But won’t do that again!! Thanks for watching Bruce and fascinating to compare notes - keep sending these tips - been very useful. 👍👍👍

    Happy Weekend Dave and Sue wherever you are today! Even though I do not have a motorhome it is fun to see how you do things in Florrie. There are routines to learn and small tricks to discover, but with time you are getting quite good at it! And you do it in a way that is down to earth and credible (not like those movies where it looks like no one ever has lived in the home). I was surprised that condensation could interfere with the electrics of the car. That seems like an unnecessary fault as condensation has been know for a few centuries or something:) I also see clearly that life is both a bit easier and a bit harder as a hiker using a tent as a home and not a motorhome. Have a great Sunday! All the best, Ant

      @NBNatureTrailvan 8 днів тому

      Cheers Ant. Hope you’re well mate. Yes we’re learning all the time - already had a comment that has helped a lot 👍 The motorhomes that have been built on a Ford Transit chassis do suffer with the condensation problem. Apparently Ford say it’s the motorhome builders problem and the builders say it’s a Ford issue 🤦🏻‍♂️🤦🏻‍♂️🤦🏻‍♂️ A couple of guys on FB have designed a cover for the ECU that keeps moisture away. But the only other fix is the screen covers so that’s what we do. A bit of a pain as it shuts out a lot of light but I’d rather that than the electrics losing the plot! 😃 Have a lovely Sunday Ant and hope you’re doing well mate 👍👍
