NEARLY TAKEN OUT - and a CHILLING RUINED CASTLE - SCOTLAND MOTORHOME TOUR (10)

  • Hello guys,
This was a scary couple of days in more ways than one.
Travelling in our Motorhome Florrie, between Invercoe campsite and Maragowan at Killin, we drove up the pass at Glencoe. The road is narrow and we had a couple of hairy moments, especially at one narrow bridge, where an Artic was coming down at speed!!
And then on to Maragowan Campsite near Killin, where we viewed the stunning Falls of Dochart, a must visit location.
Then, early the next morning, I walked to the banks of Loch Tay - passing the ruined castle at Finlarig.
I have to say, that the hairs on the back of my neck were raised - despite the beautiful location and the birds singing, it really was a evocative and eerie place. Goosebumps time!
Discover its grisly history, as I made a swift exit!!
Thanks so much for watching guys, it really means a lot to us.
    Dave & Sue

Narrow roads! Close call with the bus. Dang! Awesome camp spot by the river. Neat to see the river and the old mill. Awesome castle and ruins. Thanks for the tour. Have a great day.

Weird atmosphere at that old Castle - early morning g with mists swirling. Didn’t hang around long!
Yes those roads are narrow across that pass - too many going too fast there!!!

Great to watch your tour of Scotland. The roads are more narow and winding than in most places so you have to drive careful and slow.😊😊😊

Indeed Soren, the roads are great mostly, but Glencoe seems more difficult than others as it narrows suddenly
Also it’s difficult to keep your eyes on the road with that incredible scenery all around! 😃

Thank you, Dave. I immediately checked my channel as soon as I saw this bridge again🙂 Everything is fine on the channel, no anomalies. But the anomalies started later in the video. It's a very interesting place. Your scenario reminded me of the film "The Blair Witch Project" where, according to the director's idea, the whole shooting was done from the first person on an amateur camera. The appearance of the lake was very beautiful. And of course the scenery with mountains and clouds was stunning. A really good trip.

      Ha thanks Serge.
I don’t really believe in ghosts or spirits - but that castle made me feel uncomfortable! I visited just after dawn with the mists still around. It was quiet and very atmospheric.
Yes, sorry about the Blair Witch filming - I was a bit spooked 😃😃
But a stunningly beautiful area. Honestly didn’t think we would be able to match the West Coast of Scotland for scenery, but it did. Different but still so beautiful!

Dave, Sue. That sequence with the Lorry reminds us of our conversations about things coming the other way. Finlarig is a lovely castle. So a few heads were lost, routine I expect for your average castle. PS The volume is off on our Dashcam too. LOL

Finlarig is amazing! I went up there just after dawn and the mist was rolling through.

Hello Dave and Sue, beautiful views as you drive along. Another lovely campsite right along side the river. A lovely walk around the village. The forest looked amazing. The Castle ruins were very eerie. It sounds a very gruesome place. The Loch Tay was beautiful. Take care x Julie and Tony x

Loved Maragowan Julie and Tony. Special site - highly recommended. The Falls are wonderful but that. Castle wouldn’t be somewhere I would go back to on my own - and I don’t believe in that stuff at all. Very “atmospheric”😃
Loch Tay was amazing to see - it just sort of came out of the mist. Very beautiful.

Another lovely site Dave by the riverside which hopefully won’t flood in a storm, loved the water wheel and falls. You should have visited the old castle at night, that would have been exciting for you, and I loved the scene at lock Tay, what a view.
    All the best,
    Ivor.

Yikes, the semi/lorry drivers can be scary here in Canada, too. I feel like driving from place to place would be the most stressful part of having a motorhome. Those roads are definitely narrow though, and all the tourists pulling off/merging back on the road and walking around wouldn't help. Fantastic area though. Loved seeing that working water mill and that wide river with all the rocks - so beautiful! Those castle ruins were pretty amazing, too. Would have been awesome to see how it looked back in the day. Great tour, Dave & Sue!

    • @NBNatureTrailvan
      @NBNatureTrailvan  2 місяці тому

Thanks Donna. Very kind of you. Yes the roads are pretty narrow in that area and when you get a big lorry flying into a narrow section it’s not great! 😃😃
But all was fine - managed to brake and stop and luckily no one behind me.
The Village and falls and that mill were so worth visiting. Another location where we wished we had stayed longer. 🤦🏻‍♂️
And the Castle was so atmospheric! I’m not normally affected by this sort of thing but I was pretty spooked to be honest.
      Another great location though!

    Hi Dave and Sue,
Another fantastic installment of your Scottish tour guys. Glens, lochs and haunted castles! Don't think it gets any more Scottish than that! 😂🤩👌. The drive through Glen Coe certainly looked dicey, we aren't sure we would fancy it in a motor home, bad enough in a car! Whoah! What was that lorry driver playing at? Scary 😨😮. Rannoch moore is such a fascinating place, we remember hearing the sad stories of the ponies being lost to the bog there 😢. The Kings House Hotel is absolutely beautiful, well worth a stop for lunch if you are up there again. We stopped there with Pete's mum on one trip to the highlands, and some Americans helicoptered in for lunch! A memorable trip! 😊❤. What a gorgeous campsite and a perfect pitch by the river👌. The old water mill at the falls was so cool, and the falls themselves stunning 😍. Ooh very spooky castle! 😮 🏰. Scotland's history is so bloody, a fair few ghosts around there for sure! We wouldn't have wanted to leave this site either, that spot by the Loch was so peaceful. Thank you for taking us along, look forward to the next one guys 😊
    Have a great weekend,
    Shell and Pete 😊👊👍

Yep that drive is incredible isn’t it and the Kings house hotel story is crazy!!
We nearly didn’t make it with that driver!!
The Castle was so atmospheric - I’m not one for ghosts and spirits but this place really got to me especially as it was misty and very early on.
Thanks so much for watching and commenting Shell and Pete - means a lot 👍👍

That was great Dave. The river was incredible and I can imagine it a torrent in winter. Loved that castle 👌

That's some scary driving on those narrow roads!! Good thing you all stayed safe! Another really nice camping location- they all seem peaceful and convenient for shopping too. Pretty spooky exploring at the old castle, especially with all the trees and plants growing so close by, seemed like the birds loved it. I think we'd enjoy staying several days at each of the places you've visited- Scotland's natural beauty is wonderful! Thanks for sharing guys!! 👍👍

    • @NBNatureTrailvan

I think that near enough all of the places we stopped at, we would have stayed longer Jen. It's the main thing we learned I think. Don't try and see everything at once, take a bit of time to relax into a location.
This site was just beautiful - and the walk to the loch was really wonderful in the early morning.
The Castle was very weird. I honestly can't explain it - the whole atmosphere had a chill to it - and I just felt that I had to whisper to camera. I didn't hang around long, even thoug I just don't believe in ghosts or the like. I don't think that the mists hangaround helped much either!! 😃

Language David...made me laugh...reminded me of that program with Ronnie Corbett from years ago. It was a tad close tho being on your side of the road. I was meant to be staying near Killin at Lochearnhead a couple of weeks ago but had car trouble so cut my trip short. Would have been awesome had we bumped into each other on the off chance. Wanted to explore Killin and the falls whilst there so now making me jealous. They sure look worth a visit. Never heard of Finlarig Castle before. Looks like not many people had either judging by how peaceful it was. The graves looked pretty well tended in the main. Never been to the banks of Loch Tay but usually see it from above in the mountains. Scotland sure is beautiful. Sorry I've not been around much of late I took a few weeks break from all things UA-cam

Hi guys, the views that you show as you're driving around Scotland are stunning, sometimes remind me of a bigger version of North Wales. That campsite is lovely and no wonder it was your favourite with all of the hills around. Nice walking tour, the little shop buildings were cute, shame most were closed . Loved the sound of rushing water and that castle ruin was beautiful and interesting and so quiet around there even making you whisper 😃
