MULL to ARDNAMURCHAN CALMAC FERRY - in a MOTORHOME - Will We Make It On??

  • Hello everyone,
    We try and make the early Calmac Ferry between Tobermory on the Isle of Mull, and Kilchoan on the mainland.
    But we've been told that as we have a large Motorhome, we may not be able to get on, and that cars will be prioritised.
    Join us to see what happens next...

    Yes, from Tobermory to Kilchoan (the route has already been checked before🙂) It's great when the weather is nice, you can see the scenery well and the mood is more cheerful. The views from the motorhome window this year are incredible. Thank you Sue&Dave.

      Yes that ferry felt like going into the wild. Ardnamurchan is sort of cut off from the busier places - even Mull is busy completed to Ardnamurchan. Was chatting to a guy who says it is four hours to hospital if needed from there.
      So a wild and beautiful place - our favourite park up so far in the van. Weather was rubbish but we didn’t care!!

    I love how helpful the Calmac staff are , we have always found them to be brilliant. We walked to that light house on Mull , we’ll never forget that day the rain was coming in sideways. We enjoyed the music on this video guys , good choice . Thanks for sharing a good watch we enjoyed it . Best wishes H and M

      Thanks so much H & M. Very kind of you.
      Yes we’ve fallen head over heels for Mull (although we never had the horizontal rain) 😃
      Ardnamurchan is also a place we want to get back to as soon as we can. Stunning area - remote and wild and friendly all at the same time.
      Have a great weekend guys 👍👍👍

    That road to the ferry was like an obstacle course. Park in the middle so you don't tip the ferry......NO THANKS! LOL I'd be a nervous wreck! Glad you made it. Have a safe trip!

      😃😃😃. We were both nervous mate. I was trying not to show it! But we made it across and Ardnamurchan was like Utopia. Your sort of place - wild and remote and oh so beautiful
      Have a great week ahead Steve. 👍👍

      Thanks guys. Yes it was a bit worrying when another camper told us that they prioritised cars on that journey. But a campsite owner said it was rubbish! Anyway arriving an hour before helped I think!! Loved our trip so much. Really looking forward to following along with you and Smurf next month. 👍👍👍

    Hey Dave and Sue,
    We caught up on your Scottish adventures at the weekend. Have to say, your videos are usually so chilled and relaxing, but this one made us nervous 😂😬🙈. Think we actually held our breath when you were on the steep ramp off the ferry! Nice driving Dave👌👍. Glad all was well. And looked like you found a fabulous place to pitch up😊👍.

    Look at that, fits like a glove!! You're like me, worry myself to death, and it all turns out fine in the end anyway. Poor Florri, got herself a little bit of a wind problem...better we watching what you feed her! Well I would have been nervous as well, especially with a load of watchers behind you, Sue did not sound happy lol. I bet those 3 vehicles that were left behind were cursing you mind and once you got off the ferry, those roads looked a bit tight mind. Cheers Alan

    Happy Friday Dave and Sue and well done making it across with the ferry. Two things helped I think. The first that you wisely got there an hour before departure and secondly that you installed the air suspension on Florrie. Can you imagine how your trips would have been like without that suspension? So definitely a wise move to purchase and install that air suspension! As for the landscape it is stunning and a real treat to experience! The surprising thing is that the mainland seemed more remote than the Isle of Mull, but I guess that is for historic reasons as it was easier to move around by boat than on land back in the days! Have a great weekend, Ant.

    • @NBNatureTrailvan
      @NBNatureTrailvan  Місяць тому +1

      Yes that’s absolutely right Ant. I was surprised just how isolated Ardnamurchan is. A good two hours from the only town near there by very narrow roads and across passes.
      We were nervous about this crossing especially as a fellow camper on Mull told us that they prioritised cars over motorhomes which you can accept as people commute that crossing. We did arrive very early and three vehicles were left behind. The air suspension worked a treat - the ferry guy didn’t think we would have enough clearance but it was fine.
      And Ardnamurchan was an absolute joy. A stunning and wild location with amazing wildlife! And our best camp out yet!
      Have a great weekend my friend - hope the weather is starting to turn for you. 👍👍👍

      Yes that ferry was a bit of a worry as we had been told by another Motorhomer that cars were prioritised on that crossing sometimes. We got there extra early so all ended up fine.
      Hope you’re doing ok mate. Must be so difficult at the moment. The eye improved after a few days. Bit weird though at the time!!

      I know. It’s a bit crazy Phil. We didn’t think we would get on as another Motorhomer had told us they prioritised cars on that crossing but in the end all was fine as we got there early.
      What a place though. We crossed over to a sort of Utopia!!!!

    Morning guys you were brave Dave driving down the streets of Tobermory which look as small as some of our Welsh streets ! Glad you made it on the ferry, though it did look a bit tight taking up 4 car spaces, I didn't realise how big Florrie was when next to the cars lining up, so good. The views from the ferry were beautiful. Ardnamurchan looked so lovely as you drove and the view at the end where I guess you ended up camping looked fabulous 😃👍~ Anna

    • @NBNatureTrailvan
      @NBNatureTrailvan  Місяць тому +1

      It’s interesting Anna - when you book the crossing there are prices for various Motorhome sizes - we estimated that we paid for three car rates even though we took up four spaces. You do pay for occupants as well so maybe it ended up a fair price.
      But the ferry trip was wonderful again. Our third of this trip and it took us to an amazing place in Ardnamurchan. Our first place where we hadn’t booked anything. And our favourite park up so far in Florrie.
      Have a brilliant weekend you two. 👍👍

      Glad you enjoyed the vlog! 👍. We’ve had a brilliant trip through Scotland. We did the Western Ferries from McInroys Point to Hunters Quay, the Oban to Craignure ferry and then this one to Ardnamuchan from Tobermory.
      Hope you get booked to Mull. Mull is incredible - we fell in love with the island!
      Ah yes, Liverpool- maybe our favourite city - we really need to go for a few days and discover the history and the culture a lot better than we have so far.
