ERIK OFF-TRACK
Australia
Приєднався 11 кві 2018
My name is Erik and I like to find my own way in the Australian wilderness. I'm into bushwalking, hiking, camping, cooking on and sitting around campfires. I'm not an expert, a survivalist or a bushcrafter, but i'll show you where I go and what works for me.

Hiking to a secret mountain lake | failure and success
A few years ago while looking at maps and satellite imagery, I spotted a strange looking pond on top of a mountain a long way from anywhere. That pond has stuck with me and years later, I decided to try and get on top of that mountain and see it with my own eyes. To get there, I battle many kilometres, climb and descend many hundreds of metres, struggle through thick scrub and tricky ground, enlist the support of a good mate and despite the struggles have a bloody great time!

Join me for an overnight hike into a wild mountain valley in the Australian Bush. With time against me and the place heavily impacted by the recent bushfires, I struggle to find a place to set up my tarp and camp for the night. When I finally do, I cook a burger over the fire and spend some time by the crystal clear creek. This was challenging trip and it definitely didn't go to plan. Nature is...

Off-track bushwalk and cooking a steak on the fire!
Eric, just relax, no need to be perfect all the time. We watch because the bush resonates with us and you happen to be bringing it to us via video. We like the bush so it does not have to be just right, mistakes or not we will like it. Just keep the film coming and great views of almost anything, 'bush' will be a winner, all I can suggest is find something of main interest to focus on like Scotty fishes or plants, wildlife that can be a focus otherwise more panoramic shots. Most viewers are here because they dream of doing what you are doing and maybe for whatever just cannot get out there but live it through your eyes and your body, so just be yourself, relax and just experience your life and we will just follow your footsteps into the unknown wilderness. Eric off-track thankyou.
Love the scenery and sitting in the snow and the snow falling. Shame the video was short and little content.
Great video but you are cutting them short these days !! Just walk along with it on your chest, just great to see ahead of you no need for fancy foot shots. ❤
Shame you did not get that mindset to continue your walk in stubbornness. 😮
Pull the plug !!!! You have been through the worst now why give up ??
You are there now no point worrying, what will be will be. So sit back like me and enjoy it the thunder and lightening are great ! Thankyou for being there. The tent will be ok. Hanker down if necessary behind a rock. Smart to pack though. Love living through it with you.😊😊
Another lovely spot you have taken us to. Delight in the scenery, plants and wildlife keep it up. Thankyou.
Looks like a decent fish in the water at 31.44 or thereabouts.
I think after watching your videos you need to be drinking more whilst walking to keep hydrated. Very important.
Pretty spot to be walking, thankyou.
A bat crossing over
Best place in the trees for bass.
You seem dehydrated
Musics a bit loud !!
Love it when you film as though, we your viewers are doing the walk. We can feel that it is actually us doing the walk too, along with you. Plus the peace and quiet, only bush sounds. Thankyou.😊
You are safe under the rock. No fear.
Fantastic overhang how fortunate
A lovely spot to be watching a storm. You were lucky. No fear just a storm.
Enjoyed watching this video, thank you for sharing it. I would love to do off-track hiking one day.
Nothing worse then when a drip heads south while recording. You recovered well mate and what a location. Thanks for sharing your week
Good on you Erik! We never know what we are capable of, until we do it. I like how you put the two videos together too. And such an awesome lake.
Mammoth effort mate. Well done. After my hip replacement in February of this year, I did a hike with a mate about 2 months ago which we did over two days. It was 34kms. Biggest hike I've ever done in my life. Luckily for us it was all marked trails, rough in parts, but manageable. Been looking to upgrade from my PLB to one of the Garmin products but not sure which one. I'm thinking about the one with the built in maps, SOS and text ability. Pretty sure there would be some kind of monthly subscription with that though. Not sure if I would get to use it enough to justify it. Which one are you using in this video?
Thanks mate, 34kms ain't a bad effort either. I still carry both a plb and in reach. Plb for safety and in reach for messaging family. My in reach is ~ 6yrs old and is the explorer plus. I chose that one because it had maps and I wanted a backup in case my phone ever died. Tbh I've never used it to navigate. The 2 way coms though has been a game changer as it shares location and the peace of mind it gives my wife. If anything ever does go wrong, I know I'll be a lot easier to find as a result. Id prob look at the 67i these days or the messanger now that I have a gps watch so don't need the maps as much. Hope that helps.
Thanks Erik, you make great videos.
Jack jumpers can really spoil the moment,or the rest of the day...Knows all too well from my many encounters
“If at first you don't succeed, try, try again.” Bloody awesome effort Erik! What a beautiful lake and the views from the rocky outcrop earlier, were spectacular. Really appreciate you getting this up for us to watch. Hope the little one and the Missus are doing well too. 😎
Thanks mate - yeah absolutely cracking spot! We are all well thanks!
Bloody good effort
Nice to see you’re out and about mate. Less is more, the new format of less videos and higher quality is working well. You have come a long way and you now have your own style, that is unique. There is no longer any comparison to other Aussie content, yours is your own!
Great video, Erik. I always find your videos easy to watch, entertaining and inspiring. Thank you for posting!
Glad you like them!
Well done Erik. That was hard won! If you don't get it the first time, back up and try it again. There are some amazing places around there, not all that far from a track head, but gee it can be slow, hard going.
That was a mission. Well done.
I do the exact same snack with the crackers and salmon in the back country but i add some cheese withit.
Let me know if you find Skippy the Bush kangaroo.
Pretty sure there is some trouble at the mill and skippy is there trying to sort it out.
Glad you had a second go and have that sense of achievement of making it to the lake
I really enjoyed this one, thanks for persevering and for sharing. Felt your pain during the first part that country is soul destroying. The wind near that lake was mental, I hope you get a chance to camp up there one day
Thanks mate, appreciate that! Yeah the wind was absolutely nuts. Would be a great place to camp on a calmer day, hopefully one day!
Nice video Eric, glad you pushed through and got there great scenery and good to see you back at it mate 👍
Thanks for another great adventure, i really enjoy your vids Erik. I hope your next one is sooner rather than later mate.
Thanks mate, I've got another one done and dusted waiting to be edited, so hopefully not as long next time round
Ahhhhhh, yes, the Man, the Myth, the Legend !! Great to have you back bud....we've missed your adventures indeed!! Love ya work Erik
Thank you kindly mate !
Well done mate, that took some serious grit and determination to conquer that mission.
Thank you!
You need to spice it up and take Lloydy camping with you one time. It'd be wild!
I think that might be too spicy
Good stuff mate!
Good onya for sticking at it, great to see you and Adam back out there mate 👍Cheers🍻
Cheers Alan
Epic adventure!!!
Eric, how brave of you to be wearing a dark blue shirt! During the warmer months, you'd be attracting all the local March flies and be swatting them off you.
Really, that's a thing? What colour don't they like?
@@ERIKOFFTRACK Dark blue is an attractor for them. I had figured that out by bushwalking (hiking) during numerous summers but also found a study from the university of Western Australia to back up my suspicions. I never wear dark blue when out n about during our hotter months. I recently saw a suggestion by someone saying to put out a dark blue rug sort of nearby and see if that draws them away. I shall try this in NE Victoria this summer.
Very interesting, thanks!
@@ERIKOFFTRACK I will post the URL to a relative who lives overseas but grew up in CBR. The colours of our scrub and high country are so subtle and completely different to where he lives now. I loved the bird song of the morning of day 2 after you went to bed shattered in part one. Well done to you and Adam for attaining the task.
@@ERIKOFFTRACK Mozzies also like dark colours!
Great to have you back Erik! Looked like a tough one in places!
Nice one Erik...cool adventure 👍
Glad you enjoyed it
Perseverance wins the game Well done and welcome back your fans vicariously love your adventures
Thank you!
Capital E for effort in that first part it was really hard country. Then to come back and not let it beat you was courage and effort. A real mix of elements second time around and over unusual topography. Hope Adam pulled up ok. Next adventure has to go smoother. Bushyboy Oz.
Thanks mate, appreciate it. Yes, the next one did go a lot easier! Cheers Bushboy!
welcome back!
great vid...i love that you went back and conquered, good for you🕶💪👌
Thank you 🙌
Glad you are back missed watching you.
