Hey everyone - sorry it's taken me so long to put out a video, but it is great to be back. This sure was an interesting trip! Wanted to mention that I'm not actually sure if it is safe or advisable to shelter in an overhang during a thunderstorm with lightning, but at the time it sure felt safer than being in a tent or in the open. Anyway this is my first video that I have filmed in 4k. Hope you all enjoy! Cheers Erik.
Great to see you back. The fact that you didn't quite manage to do what you set out to do, but made the most of what you had available is what makes your videos for me. You show a real experience, warts and all with great commentary. Always a great watch. Thanks.
We bought a property and are camping while our tiny home is being built. We had a heap of thunderstorms over summer some quite scary especially with 100km winds. Very lucky there was a shipping container on the property to hide in. Top video mate.
Nice one . Lucky find on that overhang :D Looked exciting though . I'm one of those nuts who loves being out in a good storm . Be safe out there folks ... Gubs
Welcome back great to see you out trekking again. You were fine in the cave just sit back and enjoy the light show. As a fellow noodle eater I’d always put the seasonings in the water as it’s cooking like Maggie noodles etc. but that’s not how those style noodles are meant to be eaten. Your meant to cook them, discard the water then add the flavourings. I thought it was mad but they taste a lot better
Wow, now that was a great 'hey I'm back' vid ⛈️ Glad you were safe in the overhang. You got some awesome shots of that storm. Keen to see what excitement future trips give you 😳🤔😁
G'day Eric, bloody good to see ya out and about mate !!! A lot to be said for that particular landscape and really loved the close ups too. Nice cranny there; all good until, if or when, it comes in sideways, which I expect was your main concern. Did well for water collection though; have you looked @ the Grayls by any chance? Problem; wet weather fire, no problem for an Aussie !!! A few interesting kit acquisitions there mate, any new SAKs ? I'm really getting on well with the Ranger 78 around the house and some general bushcrafty apps too. Cheers Duke.
G'day Duke, glad you enjoyed the footage. Yeah sideways rain was my main concern, but the overhang worked a treat. I'm really enjoying the Befree and 3L pouch, great lightweight filter / storage. I also finally got my hands on a Platypus Gravity Works, so will try that out on an upcoming trip. SAKs - enjoying the Rangergrip 79. Loving the fireants and tinder for the corkscrew! Was lucky to get a Swiss Tool spirit for Christmas, which is a fantastic multitool! Cheers mate.
G’day mate, think I may have been to that little slip before...along PPWT, opposite a Sizey chunk of broken off land above a creek? Anyway, good on ya for getting back out there. I’m due too.
That was some crazy weather Erik!! So lucky to come across that shelter and stay out of the weather and lightning! Great footage of the storm rolling in too! Might not have panned out the way you wanted, but certainly an adventure you won't forget anytime soon! Look forward to the next one. Cheers!
Good to see you back mate. Have to admit, at the 15min mark that sky had some color to it, would have you trying to get your car under cover for sure. If you don't already have one, a trip to a disposal store for a hootchie matched with a couple of hiking poles and you would have had a reasonably solid front wall on that overhang to keep you nice and snug and dry from any driving rain (plus a hootchie weighs 4/5of f*%& all and you can use the poles as you go). Looking forward to the next trip, and now got Scotty tee'd up, going to be a good evening!
Haven’t the flies been shocking, thankfully that they are not all March flies tho🪰 and these flash storms have been amazing, the wild flowers and re growth have been soaking it up. Thanks for sharing your hike out Eric 👍👍
Great to have you back Erik. Hopefully the weather will be kinder to you on your next adventure. Enjoyed it anyway. Thanks for sharing. Cheers old mate. 👍
Great to see you back out in your favourite bush mate.. and ours too. Always fantastic scenery on your treks Erik with a dash of the heavenlies thrown in for good measure thus time. You're not the only one who put on those extra pounds during lockdowns we can all sympathise for sure. Hope 2022 gives you lots of awesome vlogs to entertain us. Bushyboy Oz.
Woah! That was one to remember! Great to see you back on the 'tube Erik. Who said the outdoor gear industry suffered from Covid??? I reckon we all bought a lot more than usual this year 😆
Thanks mate - not well is the honest answer. I started with the cord tied to my tripod, but it's so light it kept falling over. I eventually got up and tied it to a bush near the entrance, but couldn't keep the tension tight enough, so eventually gave up.
No I haven't yet. Main reason is I've seen it from the bottom and the creek ends in a ~ 4 m waterfall and haven't quite figured out how to get around that yet. I'm also a bit sketched out still as had I gone in that day I wouldn't be here today. Hopefully one day I'll give it a crack

The images are beautiful. Lucky no other creepy crawlies tried to join you to shelter from the storm. Cheers, Brian.

Thanks Andy, really appreciate that! Cheers Erik

Ha ha! I'll have to try that next time. Although I do find soupy noodles hit the spot when hiking. Cheers
@@ERIKOFFTRACK same, my wife always drains the water out of 2 minute noodles and I’ve always called her wierd for doing it
Wow, now that was a great 'hey I'm back' vid ⛈️ Glad you were safe in the overhang. You got some awesome shots of that storm. Keen to see what excitement future trips give you 😳🤔😁

Great to see you back out Erik, that was a hell of a storm front, lucky for that overhang. Looking forward to your next adventure.
Cheers
Wow. Epic! Great to see you back on deck and a great video, despite things not going to your original plan.

He's back! Quite an adventure with the storm. I have a set of Evernew pots, they're great.
Yeah really happy with my Evernew gear so far. Cheers

Thanks Bushboy, glad you enjoyed it mate. Definitely hoping for more time spent outside this year!
Hi Eric, so glad you are back out and about. Your channel was one of the very first I subscribed to and always look forward to seeing your adventures.
That's awesome to hear and it's great to be back!
Woah! That was one to remember! Great to see you back on the 'tube Erik. Who said the outdoor gear industry suffered from Covid??? I reckon we all bought a lot more than usual this year 😆
Thanks Amy, haha yeah I definitely have made a few purchases this last year too. Cheers Erik
On ya Mate 👍
Thanks mate!
awesome storm man, well done making do! How did you hook the cordage to the cave roof to keep the bivi off your face?
Thanks mate - not well is the honest answer. I started with the cord tied to my tripod, but it's so light it kept falling over. I eventually got up and tied it to a bush near the entrance, but couldn't keep the tension tight enough, so eventually gave up.
The weather has been so unpredictable this season. I've been stuck out in the bush a few times in heavy rain this year. Stay safe mate.
Did you ever go back and find the creek to the gorge?
No I haven't yet. Main reason is I've seen it from the bottom and the creek ends in a ~ 4 m waterfall and haven't quite figured out how to get around that yet. I'm also a bit sketched out still as had I gone in that day I wouldn't be here today. Hopefully one day I'll give it a crack
