- Join me for my biggest solo trip yet. After my friends get stuck in lockdown, I decide to head out on this epic hiking and camping trip alone. I hike more than 20 km across the sandstone plateau. I camp high on the cliffs above an ancient gorge in one of the most amazing places I have ever been. I get to watch both sunset and sunrise. I make the perilous descent through very tricky country into the gorge 500m below. I set up my tent and camp next to a crystal clear water hole and find a fossil from Gondwana land. The next day I walk all day upstream through the gorge in what is probably the best day of bushwalking in my life. I make camp exhausted, but fulfilled and happy. The next day I make my way out, but not before a big swim through a tricky section of the gorge. One of the most epic adventures I've had. I'm hungry for more and cant wait to get back.

Cost and Mountain Walkers - on my trip I met a group from the Coast and Mountain Walkers bushwalking club. I had a great time chatting and enjoyed walking a small section with this group. If you want to get into bushwalking and camping, a club like this might be worth a look.

What an epic trip mate! Absolute gorgeous country. That hike down from the cliff to the creek looked brutal. That's what I've noticed post fires, is that the regrowth, whether it be weeds or wattle\ eucalypt saplings can be so dense, it makes life hell at times. But that river walking looked amazing. I gotta get myself there one day! Thanks for all the effort you put into making the video. I know it wouldn't have been easy.

Yeah that camp was sweet! Unfortunately the rains have washed away most of that gravel bank this year, but still a nice camp to be had on the opposite bank. Cheers Erik

Great video! We encountered those same weeds on an M to K trip in the blue mountains after the fires and floods a year ago - over head high and seriously hard going! Campagnoni Pass and Belloon Pass are probably almost impassable now. I did some research and believe they are the native "incense plant'. I shudder whenever I encounter them now!!

Even though the descent down to the creek was a bloody hard and precarious slog, it was so worth it in the end and boy, what an amazing walk/wade/swim through the creek too!

Dear Erik, I can't thank you enough for sharing these slow, beautiful experiences... being in a land blessed with abundant evergreen and semi-evergreen forests (southern India) where I usually go hiking (or trekking, as we call it out here), I have always wondered how it would feel to be out in the bush. Your videos also constantly remind me of this amazing book by Bruce Chatwin, 'The Songlines.' Sending you warmth and love from India...

The vid wasn't disjointed, it was only when you pointed it out that I noticed it might have been. Thanks Brian, definitelyamazing views! Yep the slog back to the car was even more fun after I tripped on a burnt shrub stump and smashed my phone on a sandstop outcrop. That was about 50m into the last ten KMs LoL.

Thanks for sharing. I actually saw both Gorge videos ( the one from 3 years ago) back to back, having just discovered the channel. What a scenery. That climb down into the gorge through that narrow passageway, seemed fairly sketchy. 😳 I assume those are the bits you don’t show the loved ones back home or they never let you go again. Glad it all went well. Happy hiking.

Great country, fantastic camera work, Thanks a lot for sharing with us. One thing that occurs to me, though. I've never seen or heard u mention the possibility of using one of those netting hat things to help with the flies -- which on this trip seemed particularly BAD! I'd be interested in your comments on that??
I certainly wish I had a netting hat on this trip. I used Bushmans bug spray and that just enough to keep them at bay. Luckily only an issue up top and not in the gorge. Luckily, flies are not normally an issue on my trips.

Really enjoyed this video mate, especially your honesty about the whole experience. Some of the weeds you mentioned on the way down (the tall broad leafed fragant plant that looks very out of place) is actually a native incense plant. They flourish after bushfire and hopefully disappear just as quickly. Thanks for taking the time and energy to make this on what looks like a pretty taxing trip.

I have a head and chest strap, easy to use and no having to holding it.

Thanks mate. That pants are Montane Terra pants (I'm a large for reference). I've had multiple pairs over the last 10+ years and love them. They are comfy, tough, light and dry fast. Only downside I find is that the pocket zips open by themselves which is annoying, but not a deal breaker.

Hey there, I use Backcountry Navigator pro. There is a bit of a learning curve, but it is hooked in to a lot of the state based mapping platforms so you can download detailed topo maps and satellite imagery.

So, what are the obvious reasons the location is a secret? Clearly its somewhere in the Blue Mountains but you influencers try to inspire and encourage us to go out and be in nature but apparently not in any of "your spots".
It's not a secret, but I choose not to reveal this or other locations. Most of the places I visit have very minimal, if any infrastructure and most are remote and require skill, experience and equipment to visit safely. I spend countless hours researching and planning and yep a big part of the appeal for me is to experience nature away from the crowds. But these aren't my places, they are there to be found by anyone.
