Relaxing solo hammock camp in the Australian bush

- Join me for two nights hammock camping under my tarp in the Aussie bush. I hike into a remote valley and find a great spot to set up camp, overlooking a creek in the wilderness. I cook up some great food on the campfire and enjoy being in nature. I swim in the creek and spend some quality time in the bush.
Good to see you out on another trip mate! I can definitely relate to feeling burnt out on overnight trips. Having that extra day just to chill around camp makes the trip that much more relaxing and rewarding in my opinion. You slow dow and begin to notice all the little things nature has to offer. Time in the bush is some great therapy. Shame you didn't feel the best on the hike in. There's nothing worse than feeling crook in the bush. Especially alone.
Man, completely agree about the time spent outdoors, you really do need time to appreciate everything. Thanks for sharing these videos, I really like your camping and filming style, its awesome!
beautiful place! love this video.
Great videos! Lots of effort spent putting them together
Hi Erik really like your trips very interesting and informative. I have just started local hiking and really love it. I do worry about the snakes nearly stepped on one so think your incredibly brave. Keep doing what you're doing you've got a great way of coming across big thumbs up from me
Cheers
Tony
Another great vid - thanks
Great to see you out again so soon Erik. You were obviously in need of some nature time, and it was great seeing it rejuvenate you over the 3 days!
Thanks Amy
Haven't followed you up for few months, but absolutely love your videos mate!
Pro tip on cooking potatoes on (rather in) a fire: use some foil to wrap a thing and bury it under some hot ambers. Stick a knife into it to check how well it cooked (done when soft).
Thanks Erik. Love watching your videos and, as a new subscriber, I am making my way through your back catalogue. I like the way you don’t feel you have to add music and commentary when you’re showing the nature around you. Thanks also for showing us your gear and set up. I have just bought a hammock myself and am looking forward to trying it out. I notice you didn’t use a mattress. I am not sure of the general arrangement for that. Keep it up and maybe one day I’ll be posting my own videos.
A ripper video Erik, you left me behind totally relaxed at your camp site, thanks, I dunno when I'll decide to go home. You'll need to get rid of that bulge over your belt old mate if you want to feel better during your hikes. Less tucker and more walking will do it, but otherwise thanks so much for your time and effort on these videos Erik, gelousy reigns.
Incredibly grateful to you hauling your cameras along for your walk and masterful camp. None of us should ever forget to stop and admire the paper daisies.
Thanks for posting this video mate. Most enjoyable. Some beautiful country there. I do look forward to your videos. My 4th time trying to watch, keep getting interrupted. Finally was able to watch the whole thing.
Thanks Jim, glad you enjoyed it. Cheers Erik
Erik - Quality Austrlian delivering quality uploads!!
Keep em coming champion!!
Almost thought it was beer free - but no, you didn't disappoint...😁👍🏼🦘
Really enjoying your videos mate. Thank you for taking the time to make your content and share your Aussie knowledge and landscapes with the world through your lens. Just subscribed and hope to see you round.
Jake
Two nights definitely more enjoyable. I did notice when you had the first mouthful of " there's just one thing missing " you visibly relaxed. Another fine video , thank you.
Haha - yep tasted good! Thanks for watching
Thanks for a great Vid Erik .... New sub from Melbourne. Cheers mate 😄
I grew up Bush walking with my Grandparents and family in that kinda bush. Been decades since I've seen it. (was in QLD and around mallee scrub inland SA/NSW etc). It's so lovely to hear the sounds of walking, the animals, birds, water etc and see the colours :) Thankyou for sharing your adventures.
You have inspired many camping trips from you videos. Keep doing what u do!
Another great video thanks Erik. Loved the bird song in this one especially. Even just watching/listening to the video made me feel more relaxed. Cheers.
So enjoy watching videos in our aussie bush - A really relaxing spot
Great video, a very relaxed feel to it. Creating videos is hard work, I bet that extra day really helped you fully enjoy the trip. It's always a worry being ill so far away from help. Thanks for sharing. Steve.
Great to see you recovered from not feeling well Erik. Great video ...yes a few quiet days alone in the Bush certainly grounds us recharging the batteries. Be well, be fit. Next time Erik 👍🇦🇺
I’ve been watching so many of your videos during the Victorian lockdown. So keen to get out into the bush. Great video!
Thanks mate - hope you can get out bush soon!
Beautiful place! Thank you!
The nature there is fantastic 👍
Yeah sure is, thanks for watching!
Great video once again! Just goes to show how much the heat can affect even people who are used to this sort of activity. Take care out there!
Great walk Erik.
Great stuff Eric, nice to see more good Aussie content on the tube. I've subbed :-)
Nice to see you back out there mate and to see the regeneration starting to happen 👌👌
Great vid mate. How's the serenity. Not good crook in the bush. Water and rest, that's the key. Good to see the PLB and snake bite kit .. the buggas are out there. We carry ours always. Thanks for sharing.
Hey Erik.
I Like the sound of you doing some more longer hikes. Don't forget to take us with you. Lol love your work. Cheers mate.
How do you cook in a “total fire ban” on the south coast nsw we couldn’t even light a gas bbq while the fires were going. Couldn’t see myself camping if I couldn’t even use a little hiking stove. Really impressed with your videos
Well done with the video mate, keep em coming. 👍🏻
enjoying your vids..
As always, another great video. Great to see you get the chance to really relax instead of a hasty in/out overnighter. Hard to find the time sometimes I know. 😀
Thanks mate! Yeah was so good having the extra day!
Great to see you have time to relax while sharing your experience and inspiring/encouraging us to get out to the bush cheers mate
😎👏👏👏, need a rest?- take a rest! ........you can always force yourself to go on like a hero, and stumble, maybeez roll an ankle, break a bone, have a bad fall, or miss that snake at the side of the path because your head wasn't in the game. Lovely spot there Erik, stream looked awesome. 55:04 nice big old hawk moth caterpillar 😍👍
Absolutely - have learnt the hard way that you got to listen to your body, even more so out there. Thanks for the Caterpillar ID, that's awesome!
Nice videos - I'm subscribing. It looks as if you're using an action camera, is that correct? Any external microphone? I'm using Osmo Action with Rode Video Mic for my outings, produces acceptable results.
I like your videos mate
It seems the heat on that first day really took it out of you. Looks like a good dose of Hammock therapy and a wild river swim did the trick.
32:15 Good idea to carry your snake bite kit and PLB when venturing away from base camp.
Thanks for sharing your adventure (but don't spend all your adventures running around getting footage for UA-cam, take time to enjoy the outdoors so it doesn't become a chore)
:)
Enjoyed your video! Relaxing and thanks! I'm curious about what is in an Aussie snake bite kit...
Another great video.
I can't wait to be hiking again after Victorian lockdown, and seeing how much fitness I have lost.
Hopefully you can get back out there soon! Cheers
Love your videos. I've often wondered why you and many other you tube outdoor campers/hikers never carry one of the lightweight backpacking chairs. They have been game changing for me. I'd honestly rather carry two pounds less food and take the chair. Especially when you aren't feeling at the top of your game, trying to get comfortable sitting on the ground without back support just doesn't cut it for me.
Yeah have looked at those chairs, haven't bought one yet, but probably will one day. I actually carry the near full length foam mat, so I can lie down on the ground. Suprisingly comfortable. Thanks for watching
Hello Erik, looks a bit like you were out the same weekend as Kate Grarock "Solo off track Ettrema Wilderness hike and wild camp". Full moon, quite warm and perhaps even the same area? You were down below in the gorge. The valley will have enjoyed the flush of water.
Quite possibly the same weekend, it took me a while to find time to do the edit. I don't reveal locations, but I wasn't camping in the same place (great video by Kate though). Cheers
Did you hear me howling Erik 😜
@@KateGrarock good rain today for your neck of the woods, I think? The country is well overdue for a good drop of water. Not so much in Melbourne today. Plenty of high winds and pollen warnings.
@@l214laus oh that doesn’t sound good for you. Stay safe. It might be time to get my raft out for a paddle 😀
Gotta find me a camp, near a river, where I don't have to hike UPHILL back to the car 😂
Really enjoy your videos and I'm very jealous. Couple of questions please. How do you find where to go trek/camp is it national forests with public access?
Also what are the rules regarding camp fires on oz? Cheers
Thanks very much, yes most of my adventures are on public land with public access. I use topographic maps and satellite imagery to find interesting spots to explore. Rules around acess, use and campfires differ by location. Campfires are not allowed everywhere and over most summers there are fire bans in place. Luckily, most of the places I visit they are allowed.
@@ERIKOFFTRACK thank you for the reply. Any advice where you can access fire regs please?
DOOD!
Hey Erik. I hope you are well. have not seen anything from you in a few months. RUOK ? if you need a shoulder to lean on, or an ear to listen, please feel free to make contact with me. Cheers. Jim
Thanks for reaching out Jim appreciate it, but I'm all good mate. Just been super busy. Actually shot another video a few weeks back, but haven't had a chance to finish editing it. Currently enjoying some holidays in FNQ, but hope to have it out in the next couple of weeks when I'm back. Cheers Erik
@@ERIKOFFTRACK that’s great to hear mate. I know you we’re not feeling well in the last one. So thought I’d see if you were OK.
Can check out a couple of my hiking films and giving a honest critique. Thanks dude
HENCE the reason why I only watch YT vids and don't make them... I want to enjoy my time when I'm out...not make a production out of it!
The places you have to go to, just to get away from all the local election corflutes! :-)
Was that a fish in the creek at 31:46 ?
Sure was, unfortunately I think it was a carp though.
@@ERIKOFFTRACK yep, have to agree unfortunately. That big forked tail only means one thing- mud marlin.
