  • Join me and my good mate Ads for one heck of an adventure in the Aussie Bush! We ride our bikes along an old fire trail to get deep into the wilderness. Stashing our bikes, we set off for the cliff line in search of a pass through, so we can access the valley and creek below. We explore an incredible slot carved deep into the sandstone and find some amazing scenery. we find our way down through some wild rugged country and make camp. We get the fire going and cook up some food on the coals. Great to be outside again!
    I am an experienced bushwalker and plan these trips extensively. I carry appropriate safety equipment and now how to use it. Importantly, people know where I am and I assess the risks of the activities I undertake. I make these videos for my own entertainment and the pleasure of sharing these adventures with others.

    Love it man. Sweet little alternative to the squeeze. I too have experienced the lightweight alcohol dilemma. But at the end of the day nothing beats a beer.

    Hooray for another fantastic Erik video. Cliffs, steak and tarps... the trifecta! I couldn’t handle the Descent 20, but the Crankshaft is my fave.

      Haha that's a new trifecta, but a good one! I'm partial to a Crankshaft myself. Cheers Erik

    Another awesome adventure. Good to see you out and about exploring, sitting in front of the fire and enjoying a beer (or 3)
    When you were walking around the base of the cliffs I was almost expecting to see the missing girls from 'Picnic at hanging rock' wander by in the distance. :)

    "The view is reasonably acceptable" 🤣🤣
    Omg! That ginseng spice mix is amazing on everything isn't it? I love it on a fire roasted spud smothered in butter... mmmm!
    You definitely made the right call on the slot canyon!
    PS. I know a headcam is the safest way to video it but the wobbling was making me feel a bit queezy... i just couldn't watch that bit in the slot canyon!

    • @ERIKOFFTRACK
      @ERIKOFFTRACK  4 роки тому +1

      The ginseng spice is certainly good! Will need to try it on a spud though think that will work well. Yeah had an old GoPro on in the slot canyon that doesnt have stabalisation, hence the wobble - will relegate that camera a to time lapse duty from now. Thanks for watching Amy!

    Hey Erik, as a habitual tent camper who wants to get a bit more into bushcraft, how do you pick and plan trips and routes? I usually just follow established trails that are published for major national parks around me, but I'd love to start learning how to go off track safely without blindly experimenting and ending up needing a rescue!

    • @ERIKOFFTRACK
      @ERIKOFFTRACK  4 роки тому +2

      Hi Rob, I used to do the same, following well known trails and overtime slowly venturing to less well known / smaller trails building my skills and experience and then going off-track small distances and gradually building up from there. I found learning navigation really important, knowing how to read maps and use a compass and GPS. I spend a lot of time planning and preparing, I carry a lot of saftey gear (including a PLB and satellite messenger) and I leave detailed information with my partner of where I'm going and when I expect to be back. It's taken me ten + years to get to this level, but have loved the process and can't imagine stopping anytime soon. Cheers Erik

    Nice vid, thanks :) It would also be cool if you added info on some of the basic equipment you're using (like the tarps) - you might have another equipment vid on that but would be handy to have some basic info on each trip one.
    And a question - what do you do for fire safety in that sort of situation? Are you just relying on grass being green so it won't escape?

    • @ERIKOFFTRACK
      @ERIKOFFTRACK  4 роки тому +1

      Thanks - yeah it's hard to know what to cover in each video. Re tarp, I'm using an Aqua quest Safari 3m x 3m tarp and a Rab Element solo bug net.
      Re fire safety - we dug a small depression for the fire and while yes the grass was green, it and the ground were very very wet and there was no dead grass or leaf litter anywhere nearby. Thanks for watching

    Another great trip Erik hey Adam, I remember many hikes around Wilson’s Promontory National Park with Scotch beer and Stones original green ginger wine , have you tried it, I prefer everything else but here it is ua-cam.com/video/dMLumwE_9Kk/v-deo.html this video reminds me of Grampians and Mount Arapiles in Western Victoria. Near Horsham.....enjoying your adventures thanks Erik

    What camera did you use Erik? This video was so clear, even the wife said so. Bonus footage would have been the rain on the tarp.

    • @ERIKOFFTRACK

      Thanks Anthony - new camera is an Olympus OMD Em1 iii, it's a nice small camera with all the features I need (AF, IBIS, flippy screen and weather sealing). Great to hear the footage is noticeably clearer.
      Cheers Erik
