  • I snow shoe into the backcountry for an overnight camping adventure in the Snowy Mountains. I dig out a flat platform and set up my tent in deep snow overlooking a river valley. I experience four seasons in one day, including heavy snow flurries. A fun trip, with beautiful scenery.
    Filmed on Ngarigo lands.

    Great video mate and a really beautiful spot. Those shots looking down the valley were mint. I was feeling your frustration with the tent. That’s one place that you want to give yourself plenty of time to set up camp. And thanks heaps for the kind words mate. Really appreciate it!

      Thanks Scotty, glad you enjoyed it mate! It sure is a beautiful part of the world. I actually walked this location a couple of months ago before the snow and it's just as beautiful if the warmer months.

    Wonderful to see it in snow Eric, I was there a few months back for a hike, recognised the bridge 😉. I did a lot of reading up about the snow gums after seeing them, bloody devastating. Another great vid, thanks Eric 👍👍

      Thanks Deb, yeah it's a great spot - I did the walk a few months back too, was great! It's devastating to see how quickly the dieback is spreading up there.

    Bravo! Well done Erik, thanks for another fantastic video! We had quite a few snow shower and snow storm in the past couple weeks, would thought the snow was great for skiing/snowboarding, but nah, it’s just very icy or wet and sticky

    Today on Channel 9 news, a man died in cold weather because he couldn't figure out how to put up his tent. Snow's a different game man, well done, I probably would've panicked.

    • @ERIKOFFTRACK
      @ERIKOFFTRACK  2 роки тому

      Ah I'm sorry to hear that, terrible! Snow definitely is a different game and safety is something I take really seriously. That's why I always carry a PLB and satellite communicator on these trips. As snow camping is still relatively new for me, I deliberately left lots of time to set up (which it turned out I needed), but also until I've spent a few more nights on the snow I'm not venturing too deep into the back country.

    • @ERIKOFFTRACK
      @ERIKOFFTRACK  2 роки тому

      Thank you! I have TSL Symbioz snow shoes. I find them good in all conditions except traversing along a slope, where they tend to slide out from you. I haven't used others, so don't know if that is comon with other brands too. On the flat and up / down they are great.

    When I go snow camping I expect the wind to damn quick coming from everywhere...so make sure my campsite is ready for that...nice to see other people heading into the frozen places and camping - I'm not the only person doing that! I own the same tent, start with the front pole then the back pole put the rear peg in pull the tent forward then put the front tents in. Pull the rear tensional until the tent it tight, and your done. I had problems until I sorted this out now I can even put my tent up in the dark. If you want I'm happy to do a video of how i set my tent up to show what I do just saying if you're still having problems, I'm heading up to Mt Bogong next week for a snow camp so will take a video how me setting my tent. Also I didn't know about the dieback issue for the snowgums - I'll keep an eye out looking for them up at Mt Bogong next week, thanks for that bit of information.

    Love it Erik! Love being in the snow! Great weather the first day and the view along the valley was just amazing!! Thankfully it wasn't blizzard like on the second day! (Been in one at Mt Hotham... was not fun!) If it were me, I would have curled up in the sleeping bag and snoozed! 🤣
    I had planned to do some snow camping here in Vic this Winter, but unfortunately had a few things come up so have had to miss out, but with your video and Scotty's, I'm really pumped for next year! Definitely need to invest in snow shoes too! Oh BTW, love the hat, where did you get it? Thanks again Mate for taking us on a lovely wintery and snowy escape!

    • @ERIKOFFTRACK
      @ERIKOFFTRACK  2 роки тому

      Thanks Moe, glad you liked it! Yes the snow is awesome and you're right - totally should have snoozed, but I guess I didn't lug all my camera gear up there for decoration and was good to watch the snow come in.
      Yeah life gets in the way of camping for me too, but snow shoes are great fun, so you won't be disappointed if you get a pair. That hat is a black diamond wool truckers hat - I picked it up from Wilderness Sports in Jindabyne on the way through. Cheers Erik

    Eric this is the results of 80 years of miss management. The beetle would be under control if they continue the annual burn off. The beetle population as escalated due to this. They ( present management ) have now broken the millennium old system which will only take a chemical application to restore to the correct balance.

      Sometimes the situation isn’t right to do a burn off. And after a wet summer and autumn it’s going to be a lot worse this summer

    So why are we only now claiming to acknowledge the local custodians of the lands without naming said tribe or tribes and just copying the standard government vomit? Your now doing it, Scotty’s doing it. There’s no local tribes allowing or giving permission to go into the national park. If you want to be pc and go down that route be above the others and government and actually name the tribes that occupied the land your now venturing on.
    Anyway enough of that, welcome back and another great video man
