Hi all, thanks for watching! I'm struggling a bit with getting the most from my new camera, especially with the autofocus for my style of filming. Hope you will excuse any focus hunting while I dial things in. P.s how good is the Aussie Bush!
That was beautiful. I really enjoyed this video. I could almost taste the stew and mulled wine. Just got back from 2 nights camping on the Far South Coast. Had a beautiful 9km hike. I can’t do it with a pack though. I look forward to my next camping trip and I will try the mulled wine. Made a delicious sausage and been stew. Yummy.
Thanks for this wonderful video and showing the beauty of your forest. It's really awesome to be in the nature. Really love the creek , trees around totally peaceful. See you on your next vid.
ERIK OFF-TRACK ERIK OFF-TRACK I would imagine such a long hike would definitely bring on a big appetite. I really admire your ability to go off tracks the way you do. I am learning a lot by watching your channel Thank you.
Yet another great video mate. You always manage to find some amazing spots and definitely always eat like a king. I did a hike last weekend and took a few craft beers, including a Bent Spoke with me. You've inspired me to try a few different craft beers on my hikes from now on. I really need to lift my game in the cooking area though, your stew looked amazing! I was confused today when I had a bunch of notifications about new subscribers to my channel. The mystery was solved when I watched your video and saw that you mentioned my channel. Thanks heaps for the shout out. I've really enjoy your videos. You have a really laid back and authentic style.
Haha - yeah once you get over the initial addition of weight in the pack, the reward of a nice beer at the end of a tough day is hard to go past. Good to hear the Bentspokes getting a run up your way too and great to hear you have some new subscribers! Cheers mate.
Great stuff mate so good to see another vid from you. That stew looked superb. I reckon this might be your best cook-up yet. I'd like to try making that myself and then to top it off with that wine, awesome. Thanks for another great video 👍
Erik I subscribe due to Scotty’s vids glad I did I enjoy your adventures as well the things I like about yours and Scotty’s vids is the rough real hiking camping we’re it hasn’t been professionally edited and glorified for tv well done to you and will b watching
When I did Bimberi last year at Easter my self inflating mat (as a side sleeper) had me on the ground during the night. So the klymit was recommended. Felt pretty good.
Top video mate, awesome little hideaway on the small creek. Love the bush area you're in mate, bloody awesome. Great camp set-up, simple easy functional. Looking forward to watching the rest of your videos. You've got my subscription mate. Cheers from Kalgoorlie Boulder western Australia.
Hi Erik! Nice video, thanks for sharing. Such an amazing location I will have to check it out for myself someday. A nice little trick I use sometimes is put my GoPro under water (tied to a rock or something to keep it on the bottom) and leave it recording for a few minutes. It's a good way of getting those fish shots.🐟🐟🐟
Thanks for watching and for the good tip. Unfortunately I was against the clock on this one. Hopefully I'll be able to film some fish and have a bit of luck with the rod in the near future. Cheers
Just stumbled int your channel enjoying it, and looking forward to the rest of you vids. Really enjoyed this one. Loved the stew and the fruit in the wine
Was going to ask if that was the Alton goods grill, up until the branded mug showed up. Just cooked up a 900g Rib eye on the campfire during the week, such great products!
Scotch Thistle seeds, like most seedpods are 'flash' tinders. Unless your other tinder is prepped and ready to go, then it'll just go out very quickly.
Yeah that was the first time I have used it and thought I would give it a go and see what happens. Next time I would try it in a more thought out tinder bundle, but was happy to get the fire going. Cheers!
Another great vid mate, very pretty spot you had there. The stew in the Billy looked fantastic, I've been going to try one in a 2.8 litre aluminum billy myself but might have to really keep an eye on the temperature lol Keep up the good work👍 Cheers Daryl
Hey Erik great video mate there was nothing I did not like, so envious lol. Erik do you use maps for location do you use local knowledge and one more question water capture was in the collapsible bucket but do you use water filtration. Oh and I DO LOVE YOUR GATORS. Watched till the end and realised you do use maps but also have you got any mapping apps that you could use.
Thanks Wayne! I have topographic maps and satellite imagery loaded into my phone via an app called Backcountry Navigator. This allows me to easily navigate in real time. I also carry a back GPS with more basic maps as a back up incase my phone fails. I do a lot of research before a trip so I generally have a fairly good mental map and can read the features on the landscape (it all helps). I go into a bit more detail on this in video before this one. Given the temps and risk of filters freezing, I treated drinking water with Katadyn Micropur tablets. I always wear gaiters (Sea to Summit Quagmire) a great bit of kit. Thanks for watching!
Did you drink all that mulled wine? I think you did, you looked pretty happy 😉😉 I make it when we go kayak/camping. I add my chopped fruit to the wine before hand, fruits end up really infused and yummy, then at camp add the spices and slow heat. Last camp out I forgot to wash the pot, yep drunk possum I think hahahahaha. Thanks for doing the trip video it does take up a lot of time but worth it to showcase our Aussie bush. 👍👍
Haha I actually knocked over a cup of mulled wine mucking about with the camera - so no, I didn't drink it all. I'll definitely be making it again though! I'm sure you made that possum very happy. Thanks for watching!
Thanks very much! Gutter Rat Knives made the sheath (although I think he does knives too) you can find him on Instagram or Facebook. I'll add a link to the video description. Cheers
Great stuff Eric!!! 😀But... why didn't you take your fishing rod? Catch and Cook bruz🤔. Trout in a wrap? Haha🤣 Sorry mate but this video is Awesome!! 😀👍👍👍👍
Thanks mate! Yeah will have to head back with the rod one day, hopefully when they grow a bit bigger (although on recent form - I'll still be packing some lunch)
Yeah the stew worked out an absolute treat. Thanks for the offer mate, I'm always keen to check out new country, time is my major constraint. I've got a bunch of adventures in the pipeline, but maybe we can chat about something in the future. Cheers
Hey Erik, Have you got your self a car battery kit yet? Just in case you get back after your adventure and you know the rest perfect timing haha Wise investment ;)
Mate love your vid ,but get yourself a cheap dome tent to keep out snakes and other nasties, all very rustic to camp on ground but snakes will crawl under your bag at night for warmth and you won't know what hit ya. God bless.
Thanks for watching, I have a few tents mate which I use fairly regularly. I only sleep under a tarp like this in winter and on this night it dropped below -2, so I wasn't to worried about unwanted visitors. Although I did keep one eye open for Yowies.
Hi there. I have only ever had a problem with ticks on one trip many years ago, when I was hiking through a damp rainforest creek ~100-150km to the north of this location. I did actually check myself very thoroughly this trip after I had set up camp, but found no evidence of any ticks. Luckily not a big problem for me.
Hi mate What kind of lands you camp on? Crown, public or private. I am located in Victoria and wanted to do of track camping but wondering if i get in trouble for it. Cheers
Depends on the location, in NSW a lot of parks and reserves allow backcountry and self reliant camping. The plan of management for a particular location will tell you what you can and can't do. Not sure how it works in Victoria, but hopefully some areas are open to you. Good luck and thanks for watching
Would love to watch your video, especially from another Aussie , but the spinning the camera around was too fast and making me sick. Best of luck with future vids.

Need gun. Not as safe there as you think. Why? Big cats, feral, wild dog packs, and that which must remain unspoken, Quinkan/Bigfoot. Yes, really. Plus snakes, many, ticks, falling branches, etc.

Fantastic as usual Erik! I'm really enjoying the various cooking methods you do in your videos. You should try a beer-damper.
Thanks very much! I have actually made a couple of stout dampers in my vids, the last one in particular (a few videos ago) was delicious. Cheers!

Nice one Erik, I know it would be difficult to lug in on a trek but stews in a cast iron pot with dumplings (not the Asian kind) ......MMM
Thank Russ - might save the cast iron for a car camping trip, but the dumplings sound like an excellent addition.

Thanks very much, awesome to hear! Unfortunately I don't know any WA channels that do similar stuff.
Just wondering what power bank you use.
I think the brand is called Mi. I use a 10 000 mAh for overnighters and a 20 000 mAh for longer trips. Got both of eBay.

Gently place the kindling on the fire not push it into it! you keep putting the flame out! One day you might only get one shot at it??
It might have looked that way, but I was using a flash tinder that lasted for a second or two. I wasn't putting the flame out.
