@@hairydogstail I have never bed a gas block. I’ll have to look into that. Yes I have a couple of head space gauges but I’ve yet to find a combo that failed. I will not be running the BCG that I ran in the testing though, that was just to ensure the upper worked. I will be trying some new or more inexpensive maybe just say F it and go with a K-Spec. @@shootintheshtpodcast I have found quite a few short chambers, but never an excessive one..The go gauge for 5.56 is 1.4646, not the commercial 223 1.4636 many companies are miss-selling as 5.56 go gauges..If the chamber is short, it can cause reliability problems when the rifle chamber heats up, as the chamber will shrink lengthwise..This is why the minimum go gauge set by Colt and the military TDP is 1.4646..Most well made barrel chambers will be even longer..

I have a reciever set that shouldn’t break the bank for most people. It should be on the way soon.

@@andrewjohnson6907 aero and a ton of other manufacturers make gas blocks that don’t fit anything. They never seal and consistently leak. There is a point to buying a better gas block.

@shootintheshtpodcast aero doesn't make tight gas blocks? Ballistic Advantage barrels (Aero) come with blocks so tight you need a mallet to get them off. They can't "consistently leak" anyways, even if you did get a looser one, once it carbon cakes up in there, no more leak. It's a non-issue whatsoever. Unless it won't stay tight even with set screws, it's not "too loose".

@@andrewjohnson6907 carbon can seal a lot, but I don’t think you’re aware of the pressure at the gas block. I was an armorer in the army, and there’s a spec the block has to meet. Speak to D Wilson, Alex or any other actual armorer. It doesn’t “seal regardless” that’s not how carbon with with a gas block.

91F for the army here. The gas block on M4/M16 rifles is riveted in place at the factory. Yes, there is a spec for the army, but no armorer should be seeing it. Yes, a good factory seal is far, far better than hoping your parts seal together with enough use. No, being in the army does not give a credibility boost. Half the mike golfs I talk to have been giving the wrong answers for decades and would rather die being wrong before ever looking at a TM to make sure. We should all be humble enough to admit that the right answers always come from an ugly yellow book, we just have to read it more. Either way screw it man if it works it works. Just don't expect peak performance from bargain bin parts

@@Oxykobl when you say Riveted do you mean the sling swivel? I have never seen a riveted gas block, I’ve seen taper pins aka a proper front sight base, like the M16/m4, and the “Block2” runs a taper pin. But I’ve never seen one riveted.

@@mrRoverkane talk to Alex, he literally made a whole video about it a year ago. It doesn’t “seal up regardless” if it’s not in spec then it’s not going to be efficient. Efficiency is the key with the gas system on an AR

@@shootintheshtpodcast yea thats cool and all but ARs have always ran great before FCD gas block. I have a cheap SOLGW barrel and I took a cheap aero GB that fits waaaay tighter than my FCD gb. I didn’t even bother using the FCD. But to play devils advocate, on my main HD, the FCD fits amazing. I still rather run a FSB 🤝

@@mrRoverkane I have 5 aero gb’s sitting in my drawer because they are loose. I’ve yet to find one that fits a barrel properly. If you have a tight aero and a loose FCD then go play the lottery. You’re the luckiest man I’ve ever met. I’ve seen far too many guns with loose gas blocks and they’re always aero and BA. I would recommend running what is tightest. If you can support your barrel off a gas block that’s tight. Send FCD an email and tell them what’s wrong. They’ll send you a new one. I would just make sure your gas block doesn’t leak. That you will see carbon coming out the sides. That’s where you’ll see faults. I recommend always going with what makes your AR more gas efficient. That’s what will give you the best performance
