CMT receiver & handguard set is very affordable and they make a good base for your build. They also have the non forward assist version too if you're into it.
As for the barrels, beside Ballistic Advantage there's also Faxon and KAK. You can find them still in the 100$ range.
As for the BCG beside microbest, CMMG also a good choice for an affordable and reliable BCG.

I have a reciever set that shouldn’t break the bank for most people. It should be on the way soon.

Bedding the gas block will stop any leaks..Anderson lowers with an Aero mil spec upper have fit very well for my builds..SOLGW receivers are my favorite..Did you head space your bolt and barrel?? If a person waits for holidays it is worth to wait for specials for up-graded triggers, receivers, BCG's, charging handles, etc like Geissele, SOLGW, BCM, etc..Forward control design is also my go to lower parts manufacturer..Use Colt detents with the FCD pivot and take down pins makes them very smooth to open and close..CMG does make a reliable lower parts kits..For an over gassed rifle I would recommend the BRT EZTUNE Gas Tube tubes..Good advice and video, well done...

@@hairydogstail I have never bed a gas block. I’ll have to look into that. Yes I have a couple of head space gauges but I’ve yet to find a combo that failed. I will not be running the BCG that I ran in the testing though, that was just to ensure the upper worked. I will be trying some new or more inexpensive maybe just say F it and go with a K-Spec. Thank you for your comment

@@shootintheshtpodcast I have found quite a few short chambers, but never an excessive one..The go gauge for 5.56 is 1.4646, not the commercial 223 1.4636 many companies are miss-selling as 5.56 go gauges..If the chamber is short, it can cause reliability problems when the rifle chamber heats up, as the chamber will shrink lengthwise..This is why the minimum go gauge set by Colt and the military TDP is 1.4646..Most well made barrel chambers will be even longer..

That's a 14" rail, not 15". You can tell the difference because the barrel sticks out a bit more with the 14" rail. I might do the similar budget build with my spare Midwest Industries rail and upper. Thinking of picking up a Ballistic Advantage classic series barrel.

I was thinking the same. I just like solutions that can be easily and quickly changed tho. I'll take a 50% solution that can be easily changed with no tools over a 100% solution that requires tools, but that's just me. I wonder, has anyone ever done some tests on those thinner brt gas tubes to see if you get around about the same round count? I can't help but think if you shrink the hole in the gas tube by 20-40%(made those numbers up, idk what % they are, I know they make several sizes) that it might gum up faster. Idk, itll prob depend on a lot of variables. With carbine length you'll have more unburnt powder than a mid-length but the gases are really hot and I've heard people recommend that you end every range trip with a mag dump to help heat up and blow any loose carbon out so it might be so minute that it doesn't hurt you or cause shorter maintenance intervals. Here I am typing a novel when a quick search would prob answer my question. I'll never see anyone's responses tho, youtube has me blacklisted on comments. Never see any responses in my comments section.

The original gas buster charging handle routes excess gas to the right side of the receiver, not great for a left hand shooter

I'm a lefty as well and you mentioned that you would like to do a left hand upper receiver. I got the Stag Arms left hand upper receiver with the BCG and I used a Noveske 13.7" with the knox9 pin & welded it. I use it when I go to a shooting class or competition. I just ordered another setup from stag to put my Noveske 12.5" CHF chrome lined barrel on it and that's gonna be my EDC, SHTF, truck gun. I use the Hux Worx with the new key-mo QD Dead Air mount. That's my setup for a lefty.

So I'm curious, with the 1/9 twist is it best to just completely stay away from the 69, 75, and 77 grain stuff? Just stick with 55 and 62 grain? If you do try the heavier stuff don't expect any kind of performance?
