I’m fortunate enough to have multiple generations of tools in my family that are in my father’s possession and mine to access at any time. Iv been building cars and dirt bikes since I was a kid. But I am still obsessed with collecting tools. I still buy tools constantly and not just firearm specific tools.
Yeah, I still have most of my grand father’s tools from his motor shop, I am so happy to have them, and yes I buy more all the time too. I feel like its the best things family can do.
I will tell you, you’ll go through twice as many wheeler punches, I am gonna do another video soon about tools I don’t recommend, and they’re on the list. Not trying to poop on your parade. Just trying to be helpful
I got a ton of armorers tools. I'm also a cnc machinist and an apprentice tool & die maker. Having the proper tools makes this whole hobby so much more fun and interesting. Gives you the capability to experiment much more freely. Edit: Starrett and Mitutoyo are industry standards in the machinist/tool and die trades. They make excellent tools. One thing I'd recommend is some pin gauges, micrometers(not the same as calipers), a scale is super useful too although not specifically for gunsmithing. Just in general.
The Midwest Industries lower block, Magpul upper block, and MI castle nut / barrel wrench are solid and high quality. Also rods from Geissele, Griffin Armament. Just ordered a roll pin punch. Got my torx and allen keys cause I’m always switching things out
Solid choices man and here I thought I was balling when I bought a Wheeler Trigger Guard Install Tool, need to up my game. Also need to buy me or build me a nice solid bench/table to work on. Also massively agree on your *standard capacity* magazine advice!
Great video. I got one of those VISM lower receiver vice blocks a while back and it's great for holding lowers steady when I stake castle nuts. I've come to really like the FCD castle nut.
I built my first few rifles with a barebones minimum of tools, wouldn’t recommend it. Currently my AR tool bag has a Geissele reaction rod, a set of roll pin starters and punches, FCD gas block jig, FCD castle nut & muzzle devices wrenches, a magpul armorers wrench and a snap on torque wrench. That, and a trajectory arms chem kit with a big sack of accuwashers, is what’d I’d consider the minimum for proper AR assembly.

Thanks so much for this video, adding these. I just started my gun smithing tool journey. Just picked up a few wheeler punch sets.

The Midwest Industries armorer's wrench and reaction rod are both fantastic.
Literally the best tools I have. That MI wrench is godly
@@shootintheshtpodcast Yeah I'm very happy with my purchase. Would recommend them both over the Magpul and Geissele.

I agree with all this, their will be more on this topic

Building is such a fulfilling feeling
I mean I’ve gotten so tired of it, but I do love listening to a podcast and just knocking it out.
Thanks I just bought that Geissele Armorers package. Thats a great deal. The reaction rod alone is 100 bucks
It’s a solid package

Thank you, yeah the Vism is pretty sweet
Excellent video
Thanks for the video. I got some very good info from it. Keep up the good work.
More to come. I’m gonna keep up the series

Yes, I can agree. There will be more in this series. It’s a lot to cover but I think its useful information
👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
I replaced all the bits in fix it sticks with wiha bits. I thought the sons bolts come with upgraded springco spring kits?
They’re supposed to, but I’ve seen people get them bad straight out of the box. Even though sons states they test everyone of them. It still happens
Such a great video. Or get an Ak and fix everything with a leatherman 😂
Absolutely not🤮🤮🤮
