people will praise quad rails until they need to do CQB or rifle drills with them all day. MLOK rails being almost half the weight, while still being modular and backwards compatible with pic rail sections is a huge W.
@@shootintheshtpodcast Since I run a G$ SuperDuty now, the 13.5 inch MLOK rail on it weighs in at 13.4 oz; the KAC RAS rail on my M4A1 was 14.2 oz. DD's RIS 2 is 17.1 oz. Sure the RAS and RIS2 rails were probably "stronger", but I am not sure they were worth all of the extra weight, especially when you add light/laser, and optic.
Quad rails were cool in the 2000s and can still make sense is you want a stiff, heavy rail for a dmr type rifle. Mlok is so much lighter and cleaner and perfect for a light weight build.
I completely agree on the building decisions. I also did a RIII MK18 build, to me it is more about the practical use of its form factors. I don't care about any of the traditions or clones other than appreciate them as pieces of history. I just got a complete DD upper, then went with whatever I feel is the best with the current offerings. I would much rather put attention on double checking the torque specs, setting up accessories in the most comfortable way, tuning the buffer and spring, and keeping an eye on how it wears. Now it runs perfectly smooth and soft with 5.56 suppressed or loud. Tested functionality using 223 with a heavier buffer unsuppressed to make sure it is not under gassed, but don't usually run any 223.
I really liked the aesthetic with the ras but I still like it with the ris 3. I hope you enjoy your rifle. I just recently found your channel and one thing I've really liked about it is that you are posting multiple videos about the same rifle and you're clearly shooting it quite a lot. Sooo many gun channels will do one video about one gun and then they'll never talk about it again and you never see it in any other videos or b-roll. Those channels are just advertisements masquerading as reviews. If you watch channels like yours, hop, Brassfacts, focustripp, trench grenade,etc, if you pay attention you will see the same guns and optics over and over again because they're still buying stuff with their own money most of the time and then telling the community how it performs. Yes, all those channels do get stuff sent to them too but its not like Garandthumb where everything is an advertisement. Run your dissy bro, looks sick and i hope it shreds.
I couldn't justify buying a RIS for my KAK dissipator build, so I went with the 12in C4 for $200. It might not be as secure as DD rails, but I like how quick it is to attach and detach. I also considered the QRF12 for $180.
Excuse the noob question lol. But what barrel length and gas length allow you to put the FSB in front of the 12.5 RIS3, you’ve inspired me to make a build with the ris 3 I won at a match!!
I have a quad rail. Mid west industries 15 inch quad rail. I don't call my rifle a "dissipator" hahah but i like quad rails for the simple fact. If shift does happen picatiny is the most common attachment style in the world. And its a lot of material protecting what i would consider very important parts on the rifle
It’s a 605/ dissipator due to it being a rifle length gas and a 16 inch barrel. I agree about the commonality but I also would disagree due to Mlok taking over

The weight difference isn’t much, but I do prefer Mlok and it is marginally lighter

Ris3 vs ris2 weight is negligible
Ris 2 weight is only 1.09 oz heavier than ris 3. (17.7 vs 16.61)

Love the RIII rail. But it isn't really lighter than RIS II, they are within 1-2oz if I recall. The feel and handling is so much better!

@@NotAnOperator442 brownells has a 16.1 inch “dissipator” barrel with FSB and the rifle length gas system is sweeet

Not a fan of the RIS III. I know the quad rail is supposedly out, but it works just fine and for the MK18 gun, it looks much better!!
Prefer the RIS II for ease of attaching gear, but both are great. Agree on the QDs with some mfrs.
