My wife says that your hutch was made by DeGaul & Walker in NYC, probably in the late 70s. It was semi-custom and cost about $7K, even then. We inherited the same piece from her late mother, but disposed of it when we retired and moved. Hey, maybe you've got our piece! Btw, just bought this bottle (7y10m) at a local liquor store, on sale for $39, down from $69. Looking forward to trying it and comparing my take with yours Thanks.

New Riff also now has an 8 year old Rye. Just tried it at the distillery a couple days ago. It's superb!

Bought a James E Pepper barrel proof , tried it and loved it. When I went back to New Jersey to visit the in laws again, I bought three more back ups. It’s amazing and I love the stone fruit (peach/nectarine) notes. Plus, the bottle is obviously cool looking and could be a great decanter to use.

I don't have the Barrell or the Old Forrested, bur I do have all the others and am enjoying them this year.

Must be down to the barrel Blantons is my favourite followed by EH and eagle rare. Never had buffalo trace only available at 80 proof in Ireland so haven't bothered.

I found OF117 High Angels share batch 3 to be better than 1924 & the most recent Birthday Bourbon. Great stuff

Nice timing on your review…I just found and bought 2 bottles of the 117 High Angels at a Liquor Barn in Owensboro, KY. Then I found a back up to my back up of Old Forester 1924, which I really like. 🥃

When it comes to the 1924, I think it is loosely compared to other 10 year 100 proofers, but the classic 10 years this has been compared to lack the complexity in the palate and the nose that this has. Most wouldn’t bat an eye if Jack Daniel’s 10 year was listed around $100-$110, but lose their mind that this 1924 is $115. This blows Jd10 out of the water. The mashbill is shared with the old early times mashbill that Brown Forman used to use that they’re using now for 1924 and King of Kentucky. They are most likely using extra barrels and/or barrels that don’t measure of for King of Kentucky and put them out in 1924. Essentially you’re getting a King of Kentucky Jr in these and I think that’s pretty cool. Either way, the complexity on this is very subtle and many just bulldoze through it and are expecting a full proof punch, but instead it gives a delicate and deep flavors that can be easily missed. It beats out the most recent birthday bourbon releases for me.

Not for the better. At least for me so far. I’ve found out I’m not an oak fan or a rum finished whiskey fan. I do like bold spicy bourbons and I’ve always been a rye lover and I enjoy the old style rye’s that are now finding their way into the forefront. I know I’m not an overly sweet whiskey fan just not my profile. But bold and proofy are my go to bottles. I’m a big fan of overproofed whiskey. The best I’ve had is a single malt out of California that came in at 153 and drank like a 50abv whiskey. I can say that having been drinking for over 40 years it was the best whiskey I’ve ever tasted. Great list and I’ve had all of these and agree wholeheartedly. Enjoy!!

I started with the Michters American and now have 1 of all their releases. The barrel proof rye is absolutely one to share with people who are on the rye fence.

My rye evolution started with Michters. Now I just bought their barrel strength rye, and it is delicious.

Old Forester is missing out on a huge business opportunity with this. Instead of being an annual release, they should offer this year round. As a legacy distillery, they definitely have the capability of building up 10 year aged barrel stock. It should also be priced more reasonably, say $70-80 or so? Whatever warehouse spot/floor this gets aged on seems to me to be the reason for the lackluster polarizing flavor profile. Some people like it and some people don't. That's not a problem you want as a distillery under normal conditions when first releasing an age stated premium bourbon. However, since bourbon is still hanging on to this insane FOMO market it will sell. All in all, this product is simply a response to the ridiculous market. A half-a$$ product brought to market with a big price tag that will have all the stupid whiskey pokemon collectors losing their minds and driving up prices even further for everyone. This is clearly a product marketed to the type of people the bourbon boom has created. They rarely if ever open bottles and typically will flip the bottles instead of actually drinking them. If more people drank the juice instead of collecting (hoarding) them like pokemon, all of us would be better off. I apologize for the rant. This FOMO market just aggravates me. All kinds of products being released that are just cash grabs. The juice is getting younger or just lower quality and the prices are going higher.

It's so strong. All I taste is rubbing alcohol. No other flavor because the alcohol is overpowering. But it smells sweet. Weird.

Had an ABC employee tell me i could blind the unblended american whiskey against blantons single barrel, and it would win. It did not. But it's great for an old-fashioned if I'm planning on having a few. The bourbon is something i can't recommend enough.

Happy 4th! Don't fall for the marketing. The real Michter's went out of business in 1989. This is a New York company that started a distillery in Kentucky using the name they purchased. A name is all it is. They haven't even been releasing their own distillate. It's sourced Brown-Forman. That doesn't make it bad but it's not this hundreds of year old company. It's a company around 20 years old trying to switch over from sourced to distilled whiskey. I like the brand but they aren't forthcoming about what they really are

I just picked up the EW 1783 Hero edition had to as a former veteran. I killed the last bottle this one will sit on my shelf for a bit. I do enjoy the 1783 so got a regular bottle to enjoy to save the special bottle. Great choices I may crack a bottle of Eagle rare for tonight's pour. Happy Fourth and Enjoy!!

I keep 5-7 open always and rotate when one is emptied. I have about 60 total and only a few are duplicate those I prefer and are easy to get. I don't hunt or camp for any allocated stuff. If I walk in a store and they have something I'm interested in I get it like Larceny BP. But mostly I stick with the legacy brands that I enjoy. Great choices though. Enjoy!!

For some reason my Smokewagon UCUF sits unloved. It’s a good pour, but I don’t reach for it very often.

Interesting enough two of my go to pours are: Wild Turkey Kentucky Spirit (especially Camp Nelson bottles) and Bookers. I sometimes get so focused on them that I forget about my other bottles. Please keep up your good content

Ngl i kind of absolutely hate WT 101, but Rare Breed is my favorite whiskey rn. Not sure but 101 just tastes kind of like soap to me and cant stand it. That's a big reason though i havent tried Kentucky Spirit.
