Maybe you should have gone with mid-tier bottles. Bottom shelf could never be mistaken for a quality bottle even from a novice drinker. Put the most expensive against 100-150 range. To see if spending the extra money is worth it. I've had some fantastic 80-100 bottles. Which I will buy without hesitation where I would never spend 200 for any bottle just me but I believe in limits for alcohol.
