This is a bottle that makes me extraordinarily excited for what this distillery is going to be releasing in the next 5 years. If this whiskey is only 5 to 6 years old and with these mature flavors, I can only imagine what an 8 to 12 year product would produce!
I got lucky on this one. A trusted friend recommended this to me back in February and I picked up a bottle of Batch 002 for $69.99 I had never heard of this brand before but I figured: what the heck? If I hate it, at least I can use the beautiful decanter as an Infinity bottle! Needless to say --- this is a GREAT pour for the money and I was able to scoop up a backup bottle before the Batch sold out. As someone else mentioned in the comments, I cannot wait to see what they release with older barrels! If you find it, buy it and I don't think you'll be disappointed!👍
At MSRP this is a very good bottle. I know people want to compare it Blantons and Buffalo Trace but really it should be celebrated for it is and not what it should be compared to. I've been enjoying this and will replace it when I finish. For anyone who like this distillery their rye is very good as well. Pass on the 1776 rye. You want the regular James E Pepper Rye Whiskey. Love your review Hutch. You really capture what makes this bottle worth while
I got batch 38 earlier this week from a small mom and pop store but had to pay 80 bucks all in. Distribution in my area for this specific bottling is not good. I would say the James Pepper barrel proof rye is very good. Thanks for the helpful review.
Absolutely underrated. This is absolutely delicious bourbon. This stands out on its own and should not be compared to Blantons at all. Hard to find in Jersey but I picked up 2 more after having tasted it. Its an absolute sreal for the $ 62 dollars I paid for it. If you see it, buy it!
Great review! I live in Michigan and you can find it almost anywhere right now. Just finished my bottle that I bought for $65 and I thought it was delicious. Reminds me of drinking some kind of candy flavor but really enjoyed it.
I had one in my basket at the local liquor store for $57 two weeks ago. I couldn't find reviews from my I phone so I put it back on the shelf. Why? Who knows, I guess I'm just a real dumb guy. 😂
I picked up batch 11 for $55. I think the batches must vary quite a bit. Mine is solid but nothing special. It drinks pretty hot with a lot of barrel spice. Would be good to know what batch you tasted.
Hope I find one I’m a big fan of the Pepper bottles I’ve had both their rye which is an Ohio pick and their bourbon are something I buy always. The bottles I get are Old Pepper on the label. Saw today that on SLB it came in 4 on their blind which surprised Kurt. Trenton had it 2. JT Meleck came in 1.
I just picked up an old pepper rye and bourbon straight oak finished. Nj distributors blowing stock out I got 2 bottles each 24 bucks. Secondary shows 75 to 150 bucks as they are a yearly 1 time run and nothing on company website. Both are outstanding and at 103 to 105 proof

Just picked up three of these after visiting New Jersey. I love their 1776 bourbon, I had to have a few of these. I never see them in upstate NY.

This is true... I had batch 20 and it was great.. then batch 4, very forgettable.

This is pretty hard to find in FL but got lucky amd scored two bottles. Stuff is great.
A lot good bourbons are very hard to get in Florida mostly at regular MRSP…secondary market is booming though…
