Hey hey brother always great to hear from you..you indeed would dig that fantasy much like me..i have not listened to much of it either lately but fred's minimalism video has me in the mood..i have a few things on the label but definitely not as much as the others you mentioned.. The bloc is one of my favorite regions of the world for records..always interesting and a bit different in some respect. Lol the sango is a fun one she does sing in English and you are correct that you have to really dig joni's style which i really do so hits it for me.. Maybe not for you though..lol. I do love my fusion and have more than most..lol..i do the same thing with alot of my friends i always think i bet sherv or whomever would love this wonder if they know it etc.. The meyers is nice imo definitely would be at home on your shelfs.. I always look forward to your videos when the mood strikes like you do with mine.. Thanks brother i appreciate you much..much love chris

Hi Brother, I like the backround music, nice melodies and all over feeling really in that record, a bit fraqile in a good way. I dont know that italian guy Dentes at all but will check. I did listen to that Rajasthan record whole online, it is amazing lp, loved it, so trancendential as you said, the western psych cannot reach that dimension att all in my opinion. That romanian panflute record sounds fun, i checked only one track but anymays, Great to see video by you, Cheers, -petri

The rajasthan is a no brainer for you!..lol..every record I have that region is intoxicating..amazing shit. Lol it is alot of fun that is why I like it..much more enjoyable than people might suspect..😉..hope all is well with you and yours brother...much love chris

Chris, I noticed your new avatar, I approve it. Yes, Randall Myers is terrific, not the typical solo American Primitive style. CMP always has great engineering and production values, on par with ECM. I have the cd, '' Double Bass Music Of Frank Proto'' by bassist, John Ebinger, on Soundset Recordings, 1996. There are some jazzy elements on ''Sonata For Bass And Piano'' and the piece, ''Duets For Double Bass'', is of course, double the fun. I'm still on the hunt for the Red Mark Records releases. In the early 1980's, Proto composed some works featuring the synclavier mixed with other instruments. Zamfir with Herbie's Headhunters is a marriage made only in the Eastern Bloc, and I want to be the ring-bearer, or if worse comes to worst, the flower girl. Peace brother.

Hey brother..thanks the good Dr serves me well..😃. Not surprised you have Myers and are familiar with the cmp label and you are definitely correct with the ecm parallels. I have not heard that cd sounds excellent though..those red marks should not be to hard to track down I think there on cd as well..I read that but have not found samples..the synclavier is such an interesting instrument I have a great one on opus one featuring it as well as appleton's stellar work with the instrument on folkways. Lol I am pretty sure the job would be yours..much love chris

Chris, did you show that Randall Myers album before, because I found it already in my wish list? The Harold Clayton was one that I found in 2022, and since I didn't have any samples I just had to trust what I read about which seemed interesting. Odd that I have an album that you show! Take care, Chris

Hey bro, definitely will check out the David Friesen, I know he plays on a bunch of the Billy Harper records I have. I've been digging the Symphony Jazz Quintet record so interested to hear the Frank Proto record, I'm assuming more experimental/electronic maybe? Also added that Barometer to my list to check out, always interested in Russian jazz I haven't heard.

That barometer grew on me I liked it more after a few spins..quality contemporary jazz..much love chris

hey dude, nice to see this... interesting stuff as always.. the second lp here, Fantasy, seems like something l would dig.. l haven't been listening to any lately but gamelan has been on my mind... l have one record on electricord, a modern classical thing that's pretty sublime... they don't seem to be as easy to find as labels like hungariton or muza/polski nagrania.... maybe l missed it but does the joni like singer on Sango sing in english? l can only take joni in small doses usually when my wife throws something by her on about once a year. that's good enough for me 😅 in other news l been listening to a lot of fusion since your electromagnets video... certain albums l play make me wonder "does chris have this? or has he had it?" l really like the sound of Meyers in the background, l'm wondering what section that would be in, classical? anyway, maybe l'll be inspired to show some things soon... it's always a pleasure to see your records and hear you speak on them.... hope all is well

Hey Chris. You truly find the most amazing records; i would love to go hunting for records with you one day. Sometimes I'm a bit to...conservative with my purchases. Always researching before i make that jump. But you need to be more willing to make that leap of faith about those records. I do know one thing, when you recommend a record, it's going to be a gem. I'm particularly interested in the Harold Clayton album and the Catalin Tircolea. Think I'm sold on both. Thank you so much for sharing. Cheers. Shawn

The David Friesen record definitely peeked my curiosity, as I think I've seen that cover before, well you would think that this is a ECM release (i.e., a not necessarily essential one) which shows that it's always nice to get the view of the expert haha. thanks for sharing, take care ++

I just checked out the a track from the Claudio Dentes album. I think it is called "Rock-O-Cokey". Really good. Excellent bass. <> Being a big fan of Sun Ra and the Arkestra in a short period of time. I think the Harold Clayton album would be one that I would enjoy. <> Good to see that you finally tracked down the Frank Proto album. Sounds like he has had quite a career. I am going to try to track down some of the Symphonic Jazz Quintet stuff too. <> Sango sounds like it is right up my alley. It was fusion that got me to do a deeper dive into other jazz genres. Now I dig avant-garde anything. It says a lot about any record when you admit to liking every track. Or almost every track. It is a definitely check out for me. I think I will start with this album and then explore the others. <> This was the perfect Friday evening update Chris. Thank you for sharing all of the info on each album and taking your time doing so~ Rob/Boston

@@johncoltrane68 that’s what I do. I have a small shop near my house. The owner is so cool. And they always put out tons of amazing records at very reasonable prices in RSD. For example, I grabbed a VG++ copy of Gil Scott Heron’s Piece of a Man for $20! A beautiful original of Marvin Gays’ What’s Going On for the same and a 80s print of Here on the Sonics. Nothing obscure but great prices on solid material. The Gil Scott will replace my VG copy that I’ve had for years. Like an original gatefold Best of Love that looks unplayed and sounds great. An original LZ II in NM condition that I will flip. So it was a fun day. Plus I hung out with the guy at the shop (and other regulars) talking sh!t about music and vinyl for a few hours. Lol. Not sure where hatchett is from..it's funny he was just a dance instructor not a musician at all..😂. Man that martino is a scorcher was stoked to find that one after never seeing a copy in person and definitely a sherv lp. I have both those two in the philips series..both excellent as is the cri crumb which you already know. Not surprised you love those early perigeos as your a guitar guy as well as someone who digs some quality jazz rock/fusion among many other music. Kit might indeed have that would curious if he did.. Again also something up your alley..thanks brother makes me happy you enjoyed the video and got something from it..much love chris

Chris, really good choice from the Acid Archives. In the late 1990's I bought a music guide/ cd combo titled something like, '' a guide to the music not found in the trouser press guide''. It featured people like Q R Ghazala and bands like The Supreme Dicks , it also included Popol Vuh! Christopher Cross' debut album was awesome, in the same league as Boz Scaggs, '' Silk Degrees''. Jerry Hunt was from Texas, he makes Roky Erickson look like a girl scout. I can imagine Chick Corea drinking lots of carrot juice.

Hey brother..I think I remember that cd..lol..no denying the christopher cross debut..I love silk degrees myself 😀. Ya hunt was a real character a mystic and musician among many things..I have a few of his things solo and with his clearlight project..lol I did not even mention his dubious scientology beliefs..lol..much love chris

That Hopi looks good, I have folkways Cry from the earth album that is maybe more aboriginal vein. If the album is liked by two Chris it has to be enjoyable, lol. That bouzouki album cover is anazing, what is the name of album, that font looks weird. I have only Perigeos Valley album, Canada pressing cut-out, hah, but as you said two first are the best. Funny reaction to the new instrument coming in to bgm, sounded actually really good. Great vid, cheers. -petri

Hey brother it is quite deep you would no doubt enjoy it..I have that folkways one too it is also excellent! Here is the info on the bouzouki lp. www.discogs.com/release/13565102-Minotauros-Rain-Over-Thessalia Ya the early perigeo lp's are there strongest but I still like them all too some degree.. Lol..I had not heard that lp in years so I forgot it had a bit more than just drums..lol.. Glad I revisited it figured it would be one you would enjoy. Much love chris

Chris, only a true music lover would find gold in the hidden gems of the seemingly anonymous instructional dance genre. My first album of Native American music was, ''Oku Shareh: Turtle Dance Songs Of San Juan Pueblo'' from 1979 on New World Records. That album knocked my socks off, but drove my friends crazy when I played it in between Led Zeppelin and Yes. Zappa's tune, ''Canard Du Jour'', features Frank on bouzouki and Jean- Luc Ponty's baritone violin. That song is so good, I wish they did an entire album with just those two instruments. Peter Eotvos died on March 24, 2024. I discovered Peter many years ago, when I bought my first Stockhausen album, ''Prozession'' on DG from 1975. Eotvos played electrochord with synthesizer. Peter conducted the music of Helmut Lachenmann, one of my favorite ''modern'' composers. Peace!

Hey brother nice too hear from you with your per usual great insights and knowledge. I have the oku lp as well I should give that a spin soon. I could just imagine you playing that at a party..😂. Not the biggest zappa fan but will give that particular track a check based on your love for it. You are right about eotvos I forgot that as that is one of my more favorite stockhausen lp's I have had his hungaroton lp for a long time and again need to revisit that too. What I have heard of lachenmann sounded very good but have never investigated fully maybe it is time I do huh..much love chris

Good morning Chris. This is a nice Sunday morning surprise/treat. It does not matter what time you show some records. I am there as soon as I see it posted. I just listened to some of the Larry Blackshire Trio. Great vibraphone playing. The stand-up bass sounds dynamite too. <> Every once in a while I will see someone show Perigeo. I think that in the VC's early years we were sharing way more Italian prog. <> Funny. I was just listening to Pat Martino's Baiyina on Prestige. His playing is so sharp. <> Thank you for introducing me to Randall Meyers. Another interesting, fun and welcome post Chris. I anticipate every album that you are going to talk about next. Your artist and genre retention is over the top impressive. Thank you~ Rob/Boston

Meyers is a bit different from those but nonetheless definitely worth investigation. Will have to play it on the next one. Almost summer there..your favorite time..much love chris

G' morning, brother. Happy to wake up to this. Goes without saying I'm interested in nearly everything...so I say it anyway. 🙂 Hopi Butterfly stands out right away, as does Larry Blackshere. Nice, Black Angels. I've only heard Kronos Quartet's version, and was probably my intro to Crumb way back when. Am really struck by the last couple covers you showed. These shall be further investigated... 🙂 Thanks as always, and hope you have as peaceful a Sunday as possible. Big love. -Carm & Rocky kitty who also watched

The Dufourt Lp is indeed very cool musically, unpredictable, but even cooler, in Bicho Feo's terms, cheap heat! Spectral music is often controversial in avant circles, as many musicians consider it unplayable, unless the composer is directly involved in the performance, which I actually find even more appealing. Did I hear Audiophile music? ^^ Great one, Chris, love to see you in good spirits!

    • @johncoltrane68
      @johncoltrane68 2 місяці тому

I like the fact the composer is often fully integrated in the music too..definitely not everyone's style but creates a mood and atmosphere I like. Lol..did you..lol. Doing my best brother..makes me happy this video resonated with you..much love chris
