Good morning Chris. This is a nice Sunday morning surprise/treat. It does not matter what time you show some records. I am there as soon as I see it posted. I just listened to some of the Larry Blackshire Trio. Great vibraphone playing. The stand-up bass sounds dynamite too. Every once in a while I will see someone show Perigeo. I think that in the VC's early years we were sharing way more Italian prog. Funny. I was just listening to Pat Martino's Baiyina on Prestige. His playing is so sharp. Thank you for introducing me to Randall Meyers. Another interesting, fun and welcome post Chris. I anticipate every album that you are going to talk about next. Your artist and genre retention is over the top impressive. Thank you~

Hey there rob..glad you checked out the blackshere fantastic lp I like it alot.
Not surprised you flashed on martino and the perigeo some of the home country's finest 😀.
Meyers is a bit different from those but nonetheless definitely worth investigation.
Will have to play it on the next one.
Almost summer there..your favorite time..much love chris

Intriguing stuff as always my friend. I love the Jazzy Afrobana lp. Would love to find that one. Funny looking at it on discogs...someone got a great deal for the only copy that sold. lol. The Hopi Butterfly seems up my street too! Plus the Minotauros with that German connection. More to discover as always Chris!

Thanks for thinking of me Chris. I have added Randall Meyers to my want list. I recently bought a Hugues Dufourt solo piano album, and I tried to buy a Tristan Murail album twice. I had it ordered two times and the seller came back and told me that they didn't actually have it. Maybe the third time will work! Take care, Chris

Hey there brother..oh yes plenty of these would be in your wheelhouse one of which is definitely the crumb and co.

That Hopi looks good, I have folkways Cry from the earth album that is maybe more aboriginal vein. If the album is liked by two Chris it has to be enjoyable, lol. That bouzouki album cover is anazing, what is the name of album, that font looks weird. I have only Perigeos Valley album, Canada pressing cut-out, hah, but as you said two first are the best. Funny reaction to the new instrument coming in to bgm, sounded actually really good. Great vid, cheers. -petri

Hey brother it is quite deep you would no doubt enjoy it..I have that folkways one too it is also excellent!
Here is the info on the bouzouki lp.
      www.discogs.com/release/13565102-Minotauros-Rain-Over-Thessalia
Ya the early perigeo lp's are there strongest but I still like them all too some degree..
Lol..I had not heard that lp in years so I forgot it had a bit more than just drums..lol..
Glad I revisited it figured it would be one you would enjoy.
      Much love chris

nice to see you back this soon...
l'm sure you know Gus giordono, l have a Johnny frigo compilation with Gus' dance arrangements as the setting... is Hatchett out of chicago?
that's the one martino prestige l don't have, l'm pretty sure there's an ojc which for some reason never picked up....
l have the Berio and a Lutoslawski in that philips series and the CRI Black Angels,, really dire sh!t...
and l love that Perigeo, broke it out last week as a matter of fact, some wicked guitar work on it....
some other things here l don't know but will look into especially the percussion lps and that bouzouki thang, maybe Kit in Greece knows about it....
    classic presentation.....
    classic video man

Always know at the very least that you will enjoy these videos some it gives me at least some motivation knowing that I think of you alot when I spin certain lp's..definitely one sherv would dig or has.
I do know gus and frigo I had a bunch of those lp's at one point but since have sold see them here of course often.
Not sure where hatchett is from..it's funny he was just a dance instructor not a musician at all..😂.
Man that martino is a scorcher was stoked to find that one after never seeing a copy in person and definitely a sherv lp.
I have both those two in the philips series..both excellent as is the cri crumb which you already know.
Not surprised you love those early perigeos as your a guitar guy as well as someone who digs some quality jazz rock/fusion among many other music.
Kit might indeed have that would curious if he did..
Again also something up your alley..thanks brother makes me happy you enjoyed the video and got something from it..much love chris

G' morning, brother. Happy to wake up to this. Goes without saying I'm interested in nearly everything...so I say it anyway. 🙂 Hopi Butterfly stands out right away, as does Larry Blackshere. Nice, Black Angels. I've only heard Kronos Quartet's version, and was probably my intro to Crumb way back when. Am really struck by the last couple covers you showed. These shall be further investigated... 🙂 Thanks as always, and hope you have as peaceful a Sunday as possible. Big love. -Carm & Rocky kitty who also watched

Hi Chris. Just checked online if the De Leeuw is the same De Leeuw who did the Erik Sartie series. Two different persons. Only you can show these undiscovered gems from my home country. Never seen it myself. Cheers. /Paul

The Dufourt Lp is indeed very cool musically, unpredictable, but even cooler, in Bicho Feo's terms, cheap heat! Spectral music is often controversial in avant circles, as many musicians consider it unplayable, unless the composer is directly involved in the performance, which I actually find even more appealing. Did I hear Audiophile music? ^^ Great one, Chris, love to see you in good spirits!

    • @johncoltrane68
      @johncoltrane68  2 місяці тому

I like the fact the composer is often fully integrated in the music too..definitely not everyone's style but creates a mood and atmosphere I like.
      Lol..did you..lol.
Doing my best brother..makes me happy this video resonated with you..much love chris

Chris, only a true music lover would find gold in the hidden gems of the seemingly anonymous instructional dance genre. My first album of Native American music was, ''Oku Shareh: Turtle Dance Songs Of San Juan Pueblo'' from 1979 on New World Records. That album knocked my socks off, but drove my friends crazy when I played it in between Led Zeppelin and Yes. Zappa's tune, ''Canard Du Jour'', features Frank on bouzouki and Jean- Luc Ponty's baritone violin. That song is so good, I wish they did an entire album with just those two instruments. Peter Eotvos died on March 24, 2024. I discovered Peter many years ago, when I bought my first Stockhausen album, ''Prozession'' on DG from 1975. Eotvos played electrochord with synthesizer. Peter conducted the music of Helmut Lachenmann, one of my favorite ''modern'' composers. Peace!

Hey brother nice too hear from you with your per usual great insights and knowledge.
I have the oku lp as well I should give that a spin soon.
I could just imagine you playing that at a party..😂.
Not the biggest zappa fan but will give that particular track a check based on your love for it.
You are right about eotvos I forgot that as that is one of my more favorite stockhausen lp's I have had his hungaroton lp for a long time and again need to revisit that too.
What I have heard of lachenmann sounded very good but have never investigated fully maybe it is time I do huh..much love chris

with bouzouki i always think of the zorba the greek theme, have a huge soft spot for it. is the cantos at all like reichel? i need more native american music-- hopi looks like a good one.

    • @johncoltrane68
      @johncoltrane68  2 місяці тому

Lol forgot about zorba definitely a more well known example to the populus.lol.
I would say not quite as experimental as reichel..
Well maybe will play it in the next one and you can hear see what you think..😀.
You would love the hopi lp of course..much love chris
