Chris, very inspiring video. Glad you got the Didier Bonin, thanks in part, to Dave. I bet Todd Rundgren was introduced to Labat, thru Steve Hillage. The Japanese Temple Music is sublime, and full of unending glories,ty.

Happy to see you back with speed Chris. Wonderful finds. Never seen that version of Musik Von. I do dig those Rock On Brain editions. Not the original covers but love the reinterpreations. Ariel Kalmas, like all of them, would be on a shortlist for me. Not even on the ole w/l cause they'll never be reasonable. ha! Congrats on finding those again from your friend at the record show. We have ours here this weekend, hope it's as fruitful as yours was. Be well!

I got to second my cousin Carm's emotion from his comment below. There he is... again. Great to see you back so soon Chris. That classical Desto label comp has some of the most unique instruments that I have ever heard. Iron pipes, garbage cans, etc... You usually see those used in a street musician gig. Not commonly used on a classical record. Very interesting. Just read a nice article on Jimmy Jewel. Thanks for tuning me into I'm Amazed.

Hey rob..harrison did use alot of those kinds of musical instruments in his music..
The cover of the harmonia is just as classic as the music..😃.
Well if you want a vintage copy of the lp the rock on brain series is the route to go!.
The labat is fun lp that you might very well enjoy..definitely check it out.
Oh yes that harmonia is the same lp.
The bottle cover is the original cover.
That kalma is great and definitely something to grab it has been reissued..😄.
Thanks as always for your always in depth comments and appreciation rob..much love chris

@@johncoltrane68 Much love right at you Chris. Thank you for the info in the response. Aside from all of the interesting and I mean 'interesting' music that you show. Your updates take me back to when the VC was all about sharing music that would take us out of our comfort zones and expand our musical horizons. We truly had a core group of friends that could teach college level classes on free jazz, electronic, krautrock, avant-garde, funk, world, prog and classic rock from all countries. I learned more about music in that first seven or eight years than I could ever have imagined. You were one of the friends who inspired me then and continue to do so now. Thank you again Chris~

There he is....again! 🙂 Lovely Japanese Temple in the background. You were saying you had some amazing scores there. I like what I've heard of the pipa. Oh yes, Daniel Kobialka. Am certainly intrigued as I don't know that one. My dear friend Nancy turned me onto him through her Bernie Segal guided meditation series all those years ago. Am curious to hear that Fuhrs & Frohling. Am pretty sure I got Ammerland through/from you... Very nice with Dave on those. Some sweet grails, indeed. The Jean Yves definitely has my attention! Of course Ariel...also, the "golden hour" record sounds amazing. For sure, it's our common humanity and love of music through all this. Happy to see you back whenever you're feeling it. ☺ Peace n love. -Carm & Rocky who also enjoyed your showings 😸

      Indeed here I am again..lol.
Figured I would find something more serene this time and that fit the bill as good as anything..😃.
Ya that kobilaka is more in the avant sphere but excellent imo and along your wheelhouse enough...
I am pretty sure I did with ammerland..love that one..strings is similar yet a little different but I found myself liking it almost as much so odds are you would too..lol.
The labat is a crazy one but in a good way!..and the bonin is all you 💯..a real beauty..much love chris

Hi Chris, just watched this. I wanted to do my last video before watching because you have the greatest video everytime :) Background is of course interesting, you have to have metres of those worldrecords. I checked out Labal and the best find and both sounds great. Kalma is familiar as been watching some Stuntys videos, i have even considered buying some by him or Parmegiani. Fuhrs and fröhling cover seems familiar and of course Harmonia. Cheers, Petri.

I've got a small selection of Traditional Chine & Japanese music on vinyl. Though once the CD era hit, I went a bit nuts and got a lot of Chinese & Japanese music (there was a nice series of these done which I picked up every one I could find). I love their traditional stringed instruments. The small groupings (often solo or duets) really speaks to me, especially with non-harmonic/chordal instruments. One must really adjust expectations because there's a ton of space and silence to so much of this type of music. One of those I love are the Pipa solo albums.
One of my all-time favorite albums is Rosenboom's 'Systems Of Judgment' from 1989. It's the best sonic representation of the birth of the world that i've ever heard, just an incredible piece.

Hey there brother..I do remember saying how much you love traditional Chinese/Japanese music.
As do I and I agree with you I tend to gravitate more towards stringed ones..I love the silent spaces as you know much truth can be found there 😃...I don't know that rosenboom piece but will definitely give it a listen based on your enthusiasm for it..😃..this particular lp in the video is great and definitely something you would enjoy among others here of course..much love chris

Hey Chris, I see what you mean with Chinese music, I have a bit of the same feeling and tend to almost avoid the "ensembles" in general. It sounds too nice, too "typical" (the type you could hear in a restaurant sometimes), and indeed those records with individual instruments are more interesting.

    • @johncoltrane68
      @johncoltrane68  2 роки тому

Hey brother..thanks for stopping by..😃..ya unfortunately not much in the way of ethno stuff sadly at this past show..the Chinese lp's were cheap but I kinda of expected what they would sound like I do like flute so that particular one is a little better.
But agree it is sorta of homogenized stuff..all the stringed instrument ones on lyrichord have been winners for me..much love chris
