Wow Cris, what an assortment of private presses here. Thanks for doing this one it’s great to see more videos from you. Will look back on this one as a resource I only know a handful of these. Really interested in tracking down a couple of these. Hope all is well. God bless

Happy to see you on more, brother. Cool new thumbnail pic by the way. Who is that?
Some serendip....Ronco was just talking about Allan in his video. I was just watching a live DVD of live stuff around the I.O.U period.
Well of course you have an OG of 'Neighborhoods'. :-D Such an enchanting album. 'Magic Cereal' sounds very intriguing. Ooh...Cosmic Beam! Nice seeing those early Forrests. I have a different, possibly later one by The Fents. Fun stuff. 'Bizzarrophytes' sounds terrifically interesting! Can be mine for 75 big ones too....ha!
Yes...Definitely want to find that Dorothy one one day. I do have something by Collini....Ah yes, Crossings. Cossu...da man. :-)
Some fine shelf findings as ever. Full of great surprises. Peace n love. -Carm

Hey there Chris. I have to say a huge thanks once again for sending the Genre album. I was looking for you to show it in the last Alan video. I was stoked to see it on this one. I feature it in the background of every one of my videos. At least the last thirty or so that I made. I can't believe that it has gone up so high in price. But then again I can. You mentioned that it was a private press and very rare. Plus the music on it is top notch.
If you check out the full album post here on You Tube, Matthew the keyboard player posted a comment. Here is what he said "Hey guys (and gals?) just a note of defense for this album. We recorded it in 1978 on an 8 track tape machine in a guys basement in Albuquerque, who we paid a small amount of money to record. As a result, there were no re-takes, and it was almost completely recorded live to tape because we didn't have enough money. We had to just throw it down and hope for the best. There was no digital editing (it didn't exist yet), or digital effects or anything like that. We were just four guys in their 20's having fun. I was the keyboard player. I was 20 years old." I tried to look up the other members and see if they are playing on anything else but they have pretty much disappeared. L.A. Jenkins the guitarist released a few albums in the eighties. Unknown Man and Fade To Go. I have looked up and down for copies but no go. Hopefully I will track one down one of these days. Commercial Success is what I can the perfect gem. A continuous go-to from my collection. All thanks to you~

I had those l.a jenkins solo lp's but swapped them..there later and quite different from the genre lp..
More 80's synth jazz stuff but had there moments..

I really like the Hal Gordon, thanks for putting me onto that one. My buddy had sealed multiple copies of that Genre, I got one but didn't hold onto it, liked it but traded it for something more free. That Cherry Khan is one of a last handful I need to complete my collection (of the attainable ones at least lol). Glad to see Al Basim still holding strong in the collection, love that one as well.

His other lp's are decent but that is the one you need.
That cherry/khan speaks for itself as you know..the wayner hooked that up for me.
As you did with the davis and basim here as well..which is deeply appreciated brother ❤.
I should have never sold that davis in the first place..lol..much love chris

Alright Chris boy, great stuff again. I have 5 of these, including the Al Basim (I needed some "technical advice" from your pal Scott Maize before I bought that locally as I thought it was a boot, he sent me scans of his that allowed me to verify). The East River consort you send me a reccie for years back - ta! Bring on the UK pile now!

Just overwhelming and frequently astonishing records Chris. Inevitably, I can't comment on most of these.... I did pick up the CD of Neighborhoods after Carm showed it recently. The private press scene and the plethora of local labels in the US is invariably huge. The list of big cities and states you were reeling off just about summed it up. Our tiny little country produced very little in comparison. A few obscure folk albums and punk singles seem to be the most desirable- and the most 'common' finds.
These records were just amazing to see; most never released here, of course and quite a few big money items. So many stand outs. I checked a few out as I went- the Dorothy Carter is wonderful. The Chernicoff was very nice too. Fantastic stuff Chris.

    • @johncoltrane68

Glad you enjoyed it as I only make these vc videos really for my friends anyway..😁.
Yes the vast usa landscape or sometimes cultural wasteland..lol.
The private press is indeed an endless rabbit hole..but often a fascinating one..where the artists has total control over the music..
Which sometimes is a good thing and sometimes bad..lol.
Always was fascinated by those types of records..often with little information before hand if one discovered one it was like the treasure of Sierra madre moment.
Thankfully you tube does have bits of many of these for sampling which you do anyway..
Not sure if I will do anymore of these
But we will see..the demand is not as great as in your series..lol..
      Much love chris

Cool, not much I know from this bunch, as expected, lol. Dorothy Carter’s both LPs are big wants for me, love those, and also Children Of One of course. Do you have the Arica albums? Those are also great. The extensive list of notes I took for this video was: Greg Hatza, Mel Graves, Emmett Frisbee (seems fun!), East River Consort (I could need some more mellow stuff :), Earthshine (think you showed that before?), Carl Erdmann!! (This seems amazing!), DRS & Friends, Ian Dogole, Paul Church Jr (really interesting one, think you’ve mentioned it before, I know I’ve listened on YT, ofcourse nothing I would ever find, though), Cosmic Beam Experience, Gold, whoa I have quite some stuff to look into there, might take a while, lol. Much love, Johan

You flashed on alot I thought you might..I do have the arica lp's and of course love them..lol.
Don't have the one on the just sunshine label though unfortunately but the others yes.
One you did not mention is cloud dance which I highly recommend!
Well at least giving it a listen.
I wish I knew more about church but there is little info out there.
      Erdmann is a must imo!.
The only one you mentioned that may not be for you is gold which leans a bit to the fusion side of prog..but one never knows you may well enjoy it..😁..
Might do at least one more of these.
Not sure but we will see..
You are one of the handful of people I make these for anyway so glad you enjoyed it and found stuff to explore.

Nice seeing another 'shelf' video again, but you started with the album that for me has the distinction of being what I once labeled the very worst album in my collection when it came out-and the biggest-ever disappointment, that IOU album..Yuck, I couldn't stand that one! I was also disappointed with 'Velvet Darkness' though that one was a lot better. For me his 2nd Bruford album was the best I ever heard him play (and write). For me none of his solo albums ever attained that level again. That Mel Graves I bet is great! I've got a few Jerry Granelli things, love his stuff. Miles used Al Foster again when he came out of his retirement period around 1980. I really dig Ian Dogole's playing-he often plays in the Bay area with Ancient Future and the associated musicians. I have the 'Dangerous Ground' on CD -a totally blind buy at the time that turned me on to him. I've had the CD version of that Don Cherry on my wishlist for some time. I have that C'est What? album on vinyl (or I did- haven't seen it in years)...
Anyway, another great video buddy-love seeing this stuff. Stay well!
    -Gary

I love ancient future I have those lp's.
      Big surprise right..lol.
Oh that graves is definitely a gary lp.
The 1750 arch label is very under appreciated imo.
Ya I got the cherry in a trade as I could never score a copy..beautiful stuff..east river consort is online and well worth your time as well.
C'est what is lovely lp I actually should give that a spin as it has been a long time..
