That's really interesting, I generally find the app really well updated but I have not looked into the combat patrol stuff for a while. Are we absolutely sure that in the mind of GW that balance dataslate changes are supposed to apply to combat patrol?

@@TabletopImpulse Personally I think it’s very unclear. The data slate does say “this applies however you play 40k”. I understand that TOs are applying it - but I haven’t seen that totally confirmed. It’s frustrating, because I’m enjoying combat patrol as a way to go slightly bigger than KT. But the rule situation is very confusing.

The Vtuber you talked about did a video. IIRC, there are some core rules changes that haven’t made it to the core rules pdf yet & some data sheet changes (like the one for captains & canonesses) that haven’t made it to the app yet.

To clarify, what I postulate is that if GW made rules free the rules would get less man hours put into them. Because of how GW is organized into profit centers, the rules department would no longer have a balance sheet to point to to justify existing. You can have good free rules, if you don't have the corporate culture of GW. But I think it's basically impossible for GW to make good free rules.

I do agree that it's nice that these things continue to exist. I also subscribe to White Dwarf, but I must confess to not reading each one cover to cover.

It's an interesting thing for sure, tanky should be a fairly core archetype that the game should be able to fairly represent. That it can't is a bit sad because it is, according to the background a core faction identy for a few teams, such as Deathguard. Although I note that they have, since KT came out, root and branch changed what Deathguard are in bighammer to make them an army about debuff auras.

It's true, it's why I kind of think, as much as people obviously really want things to stay usable, if we have another three years of adding teams, and no teams get taken away - things may get a bit out of hand.

Perhaps they didn't need both buffs, an extra model is already a big deal. However like I said in the video if you really want people to pick up a team that they have previously written off, it feels like they have to go hard on the buffs. And then maybe tweak them back down later.

Reasonable; but I don't think that would happen. Malifaux worked like this (in fact, Malifaux went even harder because the factions in Malifaux included multiple teams) and we never had much of a problem. I also think the roster is only *really* relevant in tournaments because in Kitchen table play you generally know what team your opponent is bringing anyway, and in tournament play we already have rules to keep people to time.

I’d like to see a return to fireteams, maybe with a higher roster cap all round. 5 kasrkin & 7 vet guard, 5 scouts & 3 Phobos etc etc.

Pesky reading! Yes indeed, so in fact what has happened is they have made it more reckless so that you may not double up with the dice retained by being in cover. Still a nerf, but less of one IMO.

You and I seem to have a similar viewpoint concerning in game balance. Which is strange because I’m not a particularly competitive player and certainly not overly skilled either. But somehow good balance equates to a well designed game in my ossified cranium.

Yeah, I need to get my physical health sorted out. At the moment I am trying to diet because people say you can't exercise your way out of bad diet. Like I appreciate you taking the time to try and bully me into improving myself. I get it, but honestly wouldent know where to start. Plus, I have a disability, which obviously isn't aided by being stupidly overweight but I worry about hurting myself with some exercises since I have surgical pins and other nonsense in one my ankles. But hopefully one day, God willing, I will get in shape for the sake of my daughter, so thanks again for the virtual kick up the backside.

I'll be really honest, I don't even know what a sand tiger looks like.
