The two things I like best about 10th are the concept of detachments (the execution seems pretty variable) & how characters are used (characters are impactful, but it’s not hero-hammer).
Points are definitely the mechanism they’re using to balance between factions.

Do you know I think the game is in a pretty good state. Balance is, even if this codex is a misstep the best it has ever been for 40k. It's just a question of how folks feel about things.

I discovered Christian Von Carmian's channel recently and he is quite good fun.
He is no Mr. TI though!
Deathwatch is my favourite. Currently holding my breath as to what the redacted codex is going to be...

Signs point to agents of the imperium, perhaps with the Deathwatch units absorbed into it. But if they do that I am sure you will be able to ally them into a Codex space marines army to still make a Deathwatch Force.

27:20 I'm sure I'd somehow manage to start a discussion on the bread maker vs manual baking debate if you did 🤣

I really liked hearing your thoughts on this. It really put into words a lot of the things I've been thinking about as well.
I don't quite agree though that those units have been nerfed.
Immolator wound rerolls were quite nice, but stripping cover for the whole army in shooting is HUGE vs armor of contempt and good saves in general. Especially combined with the castigator you can effectively counter AoC and cover so vs a land raider multimeltas now require them to save on 6+ rather than 4+ and if it's in army of faith you can even use a CP to deny a save completely. That's kinda insane vs a 2+ save in cover with AoC active. I think immolators are situationally nerfed but overall significantly buffed.
Junith not getting an automatic CP is a big deal, but with leadership 6 she's still likely to generate it and we often have some trash MD to discard. Losing the ability to go through walls is big, and she can no longer go in transports, but nobody in their right mind did that anyway. She did however get T5, move 8 and 8 wounds, so pretty significant stat buffs.
Arco Flagellants are mainly quite nerfed, especially when losing twin linked, but they do gain 6++ invuln save which is really good vs high damage weapons like lascannons since it does give a minor chance to save it all and we can even force it in a pinch with MD 6. Net nerf I'd agree, but still technically a side grade, and with support from some detachments and strats they can even become stronger than before situationally.

Glad you enjoyed the video. Immolator can still be very good for sure especially if you build towards it with a few tanks, but generally speaking I think removing the benefit of cover in an army which is *mostly* damaging with high AP Melta weapons or torrent weapons is much more situational then the immolators previous buff.

@@TabletopImpulse Perhaps, but other than melta we have lots of good but low AP weapons such as battlecannon, heavy bolters, exorcist missiles, grenade launchers, Vahl's missile launcher etc. With ignores cover and AP-1 boost, even against cover that's effectively AP-2 heavy bolters, Vahl's missiles go to effective AP-3 with the new +1 to hit and wound vs vehicles as a nice bonus. Exorcists go to effective AP-4 and even multimeltas benefit greatly vs cover and armor of contempt. A land raider saves on 4s vs multimeltas if they use AoC. With these bonuses it saves on 6s or if they don't use AoC then every wound is guaranteed damage.

Yeah, I really can’t set aside a whole day for gaming, let alone a weekend. So skirmish games really work for me, that way. I feel the same way as you regarding overpowered armies. I just don’t want people thinking that I’m just picking the best in order to waac. Which is kind of silly really, who cares what people think, but that’s the way I feel.

Wargames are inherently social so, caring what your opponents think is valid, caring what the nebulous internet thinks, less so.

I don't have any skin in this game as 40K is really not for me, but your thoughts are interesting. I wonder if the problem is that the armies are linked to the codexes and it would be better if the codexes were pure lore tomes that advanced the plot and maybe had a couple of scenarios to replicate key battles in the new lore and stats, points and so on were permenantly indexed in Warhammer Armies or Chapter Approved style tomes (he says showing his age...)

What this would let them do is release the odd unit for armies here and there rather then having to give you either whole lot in one go, or just a single character for three years.

eh, I still think, people do not want to be the most powerful faction. but they want toys for their faction to play around. detachments and list buildings are still ways for people to express themselves. limiting this, only leads to feel-bads (Kill Team 21, cough)

    • @TabletopImpulse
      @TabletopImpulse  Місяць тому

I understand your point, but I disagree. I think you can have all the fun detachments in the world, people want to feel the game is fair. But probably there are some people like me and some people like you, and that's okay.
