    "a self-contained dungeon crawl" - interesting line in the Necromunda article. The suits in this box are specifically called out as Orrus too and with more releases on the way for them we should hopefully get the other types! So will be interesting if this will just function as a necromunda into the dark season.

    • @TabletopImpulse
      @TabletopImpulse  Місяць тому

      I should probably have read the text more carefully. It will be interesting if the new necromunda box actually is a massive rules departure, given how little they talked about rules in the preview. If they come out with plastic versions of all the Spyrers that will be super cool.

    • @StevenRead
      @StevenRead Місяць тому

      @@TabletopImpulse I suppose it depends on how much they commit to it being underground. Are the playmats split into rooms and will we have doors etc - what is that bulkhead sprue doing (yay a use for all the into the dark terrain I have too much of)
      Also is the whole season self contained dungeon crawling, just this box? Is the coming book just going to be the same format as previous books covering Spyers and GSC or is it more rules for the other factions to fight in hive secundus. Will be exciting to follow! Really keen to see more Spyer suits most of all

    55:29 today’s WarCom had an article showing off the other Spyrers. They harken back to the Spyrers of old, but have weapon options & are definitely a higher fidelity of sculpt.

      @TabletopImpulse  Місяць тому +1

      Yeah! they look awesome. Why on earth did they not include these in the preview?

    • @CrimsonTemplar2
      @CrimsonTemplar2 Місяць тому

      I assume to give us follow on content. The smart thing would have been to have them in that sweeping video exploring Hive Secundus, but off you go the side or in shadows, then do the full reveal article so eagle eyed folks would get excited.

    Skaven on a giant mutated centipede!
    Complete agree about the Sisters Codex cover. Codex covers are like landmarks through the history of the game. Very Iconic. Now when people see this image they have to think is it the 8th or 10th.
    I do hope we see more Spyrers in the future. They were fun. I do remember in an old Tau codex there was lore implying that spyrer suits were of Tau origin. Was always hoping for new designs based of that. New ones.... kinda meh. They shouldn't have painted them Green, originally I thought they were just more Van Saar models.

    • @TabletopImpulse
      @TabletopImpulse  Місяць тому

      Iconic Landmarks, ideally yes! Looking at the Spyrer suits they are clearly not imperial tech. Tau would be fun!.

    The Stormcast hangers-on would make excellent Tax Collectors.
    24:17 re: the 3 Canonesses. If I built a second one I’d either go with some 3D printed smoke trails from her jump pack or kitbash a different piece of rubble for her to be pushing off of to get the height/illusion of motion. I tried magnetizing sisters & they’re such small contact points that it got fiddly. I’d probably (much to GW’s delight) buy additional kits once she has an individual release.

    • @TabletopImpulse
      @TabletopImpulse  Місяць тому +1

      Yeah, converting the base might well be something you could do, don't know about 3d printed smoke trails though, might be very difficult to attach to the jump pack believably. We have loads of little exhausts rather then one or two big ones.

    The BoE inflation calculator will, when you ask it to compare a year to a month (that is, 2023 to March 2024, as you did) compare December of the selected year to the selected month. You can test this by noting that "2023 to Jan 2024" yields deflation (that is, negative inflation.)
    The better measure for what you are trying to compare is RPI (inflation over a year on a basket of goods which exclude rent). RPI stood at 4.3% at last measure.
    Therefore £6.45 of the £10 price increase is in line with inflation and about £3.55 is above and beyond inflation. But, as you say, this has terrain. I will note it has fewer Big Monsters though.

    • @TabletopImpulse
      @TabletopImpulse  Місяць тому

      Interesting and informative. I agree with you that RPI is the better measure and thank you for doing the maths in the absence of a snazzy calculator.

    Now you’ve pointed it out, they have been toned down and the silver is more appealing. As for the rat lord I’m a huge fan, I see fitting. They are their own horde, they are using what they have amongst their own, I feel they have minimal as scavengers wanting to rise from the filthy bottom ranks.

    I play Legions Imperialis! It's a great game that is lots of fun, and it is very tactically challenging. It gets a lot of flak from a lot of people for some reason, but I think it's the best and most engaging ruleset I've encountered in quite a while.

Second of August, Gencon website has the details. This means we have a preview show at both the start and the end of August.

    46:30 Was Tallarn a desert world at the start of the campaign there? I haven't read the book in an age now, but I have a niggling thought that it was an industrial world of some sort that became what it is in 40K because of the battle.

    I am with you on what to care about in a product. Presumably if you really care about gaming products that are well designed, consumer friendly, then you are probably not a GW fanboy. As Glass1/2☠ noted recently, the boardgame industry does a really good job of providing quality, fully self-contained products (where every element of the game is considered) for USD40-100.
    Good call out on the timing of Nightmare.
    I am someone who was big on Epic's return. I despise how GW has split off the army creation elements (units & formations) into different books. So I have stopped buying since the Land Raiders were released a few weeks back, though my army is good to go as is.
    This Necromunda box is a big win for me, so I will be getting it. As I do remember the Spyres of old, I would have preferred to have two different Spyre suits (I may sell off one of them). I'm looking forward to the rest.

    • @TabletopImpulse
      @TabletopImpulse  Місяць тому +1

      It's funny because I am making the same point to one that GlassHD made recently but about different stuff. I want new art commissioned and new background. I desperately don't want a board game style plastic miniatures holder because I display my models so that stuff would be going straight to landfill! I'm actually fine with the model kits being packaged reasonably cheaply because I build them and throw away the packaging. But I do think that Books, and boxed games where you are actually going to keep the boxes to store non-miniature components should be produced to a premium quality.
      Splitting out rules into infinity small supplement books is the traditional fail mode for specialist games sadly.
      Glad you like the Necromunda Box!

    • @henryrodriguez6260
      @henryrodriguez6260 Місяць тому

      @@TabletopImpulse Yes, you are focusing on different stuff. And still I agree with you. All that stuff, art, fluff, component quality are things that the boardgame industry gives one on a consistent basis.
      And why is that? Because of the large amount of companies competing for the boardgame market's cash. GW is as close to a monopoly we have in an analog gaming niche. It is not forced to do these things, instead it gets away with cutting and pasting art/lore from edition to edition.
      As for not wanting certain premium components, that is fair. Though I think miniature containers is ideally suited to GW's smaller, boardgames-style offerings.

    I don't think people expect the official paint jobs on the Sisters to include make up and neat shiny hair but I don't think its asking too much wanting traditional feminine faces sculpted on nuns with guns.

    • @TabletopImpulse
      @TabletopImpulse  Місяць тому

      I think both fantasies are equally valid. If you want your men to look like Henry Cavil and your women to look like Scarlett Johannsson I think that's valid, that's the standard Hollywood media fantasy that folks can be hard-bitten warriors but still look amazing. On the other hand if you want a grim dark fantasy where everyone looks like an MMA fighter or a rugby player and fight bighting and clawing in the mud that's also valid, that's a different kind of cool. I think this Canoness model strikes exactly the correct balance, because you have that choice of head.

      @@TabletopImpulse I think your calculation was a bit off. If you accept that AOS releases one full year later than 40k, and you apply today's inflation (CPIH, which has come down, and may fall further by Aug, it's true) is 3.8%, then £150 a year ago is £156 today... (The BOI calculator is probably doing Dec to Mar, i.e just 3 months!)

    disagree with the rat on a rat rant.
    No, Skaven should not get a cavalry unit.
    Yes, it makes perfect sense for a Skaven to ride a rat. Look at all the genetically modified rats besides Skaven. Skaven Beastherders bringing small and big rats onto the Battlefield, giant Rat Ogres running around. Obviously one of those out-of-their-mind-on-warpstone Skaven thought it would be funny trying to ride that mutated rat.
    And while I agree with you, that seeing what Lizardmen do besides war/fighting is interesting... but you tried to make your point about the only, really only army that is in fact, always, constantly, fighting. There is no fulfilled Maslows pyramid of needs for any Skaven. Even the Orks, and many people say Orks are always fighting, are more chill and can have a structured day.

    • @TabletopImpulse
      @TabletopImpulse  Місяць тому

      Maybe Skaven have become more Flanderised over the years but I thought there was an idea of a skaven society. Even a sakaven parliament where all the gray seers sat around and plotted against each other, hired assassins to kill each other and had a ratty version of court intrigue. Or was this a feaver dream.

    • @NightfallTH
      @NightfallTH Місяць тому

      @@TabletopImpulse no no, the Council of Thirteen is true. But they do not drink Tea and eat Biscuits uhm Sandwiches there. And plotting is not really a game of chess for those high Skaven. It is fighting and war, clawing and gnawing. For every Skaven every day is a pure fight for survival. With and against lots of other Skaven and rats.
