    The pick up in the AIO sounds great as did your pickin. I generally use the shoulder of the pick more so on my acoustics than my electrics, they seem to create a warmer tone than the pointed end. I also went to the rounded profile on my Blue Chip pics for the same reason. Pick material, pick thickness all effect tone, just one more rabbit hole to go down in the elusive search of that perfect tone. 🤠

    Fantastic pickin' there Dan, top shelf stuff, that guitar sounds great too. A lot also goes into your picking technique as well, I've seen plenty of players (and I'm sure myself included at some point) would have a good picking rhythm going on 1 string but have it interrupted when changing to another string, each string has a different tension and feel. Its a good daily practice/warmup to get a picking rhythm going and go through each string individually and try to keep in all in the same rhythm and timing, that could help anyone trying to reach the level of your ability. Keep on pickin' Dan, I hope you have a blessed week ahead, God bless you and your loved ones, sincerely, Bri

      Thank you Brother Bri...for the kind words and for watching and listening;) I find my "right hand" is the "key" to my playing. Most players "focus" upon the left hand "notation" (including me)...but upon "paying attention" my "right hand", I found that it wasn't "keeping up" with the left. In other words...my "left hand" had already "moved on" to something else...a different part of the "musical melody" I was trying to play...but my "right hand" had not yet "executed" the previous "musical melody"...delayed by mere milliseconds...but "behind"...nonetheless. When I finally realized this "anamoly" within my playing...which I always thought was my "left hand" being the issue"...I began to "slow down" my efforts...not necessarily to a "crawl" but to a decidely conscience "slower" tempo...and this was the "beginning" ( and still is) of "focusing" on my right hand execution...both regarding "rhythm & notation". The "by-product" of this...was a "cleaner left hand" execution...both "rhythm & notation"...and an overall "cleaner presention" of both. Like you Brother Bri...I am not performing "pre-meditated" musical performances. Although "familiar" to my "musical mind"...my performances are not an attempt of "covering a note for note" solo made "famous" by a guitar player. The vast majority of my videos are the "1st time attempts" concepts...that I either have been "thinking about" or "just thought of"...and then grabbing the guitar to "see/hear" if I can "play" what I am "thinking" of...probably very similar to "how" you do your "Improvs". This is where the "slower tempo" plays a major role in letting your "hands" catch up with your "musical mind & ideas"...allowing me to "hear" a solid "musical presentation" of "what" was in my head ( which always "sounds" better than "what" I actually performed)...but a much "closer overall & appealing presention" between the "mental & physical" presentation of the idea. As time goes by...I begin to "add" tempo (if desired)...but ONLY AFTER I have "heard to completion by execution" the "Musical Concept/Idea/Phrase" that is in my head in a "physical performed manner" that satisfies my "Musical Mind"...and this is typically "what" I am doing in these videos...as they are truly more for "me" to learn about myself as I "Journey On" thru enjoying the "Blessing of Music";) Let's keep on pickin' my "Loopin' Brother"...and my prayers to you, your family and friends...keep rockin' the Strat;) Sincerely I am...Dan;) These "videos" that we are recording are the "greatest tools" for us to learn "about" ourselves as players...capturing our "Hands vs. Execution" which = "The Musical Result".

    Good stuff Brother! Pick choice is important. I’ve heard a ton of good picking messed up by pick choice. Sometimes you have to make changes in pick thickness and even pick shape depending on the instrument and string size. Some will think this is foolish but I’m a firm believer in getting the right pick. Thanks for the video my friend.

      My Brother Rodney...the Pick and/or Fingers along with the "Feel & Touch of the Hand" that is doing it is the "Voice of Expression" of the "Note" that is "trying to tell you" something... Musically;) This should be a "quote" in the "Hall of Guitar Pickers";) And the pick is one of the most "overlooked" TONE CHANGERS available to guitar pickers...especially "Acoustic" players;) Thank you for watching my Brother. Brother Greg...I do still have it & it is surely beginning to "open up". I have had it since late 2022 purchasing it new from Mr. George in Nashville of October of that year. It is a wonderful guitar & the only Martin I have ever owned. Upon my return this year to our Tennessee home, we will be heading down to Gruhn's Guitar to check out a few "new offerings" that George has that I am looking forward to pickin' on. During that visit, I will give the "setup" crew at Gruhn's an opportunity to take a look at the guitar...make a few small adjustments relative to the action in addition to letting them "see" this guitar 1st hand after a couple of years of "use" as they have expressed interest in doing so. I am glad to hear that you are enjoying your 28/45...let's keep pickin' my Brother;) My prayers to you, your family and friends...Sincerely I am...Dan;)

      Brother Tim...thank you for watching and the kind words;) "Looping" has truly become one the best methods of practicing for me...both in working on "extended ideas/phrases/melodies" & in "flexing the muscles" regarding duration of playing as the "loop" will just keep on playing and you find yourself as a guitar picker "doing things" that you "normally" wouldn't as you are performing with "more opportunity" than the "normal time format" of a song. Thank you again...and my prayers to you your family and friends...Sincerely I am...Dan;)

This definitely "opens" your musical mind when you stop relying on "swapping" between pickup selections...as this one option keeps you "focused" in a different musical manner;) My prayers to you, your family and friends... @@musicmandan1717 Dan, I very much agree with those sentiments. I have a one-humbucker EVH "super strat" with a floyd rose, it doesn't even have a tone control (well the volume pot says tone on it). Even with that, I can cover a surprisingly large number of sounds I enjoy. Yes, I mostly use it for hard rock, but it still has a great clean tone or slightly overdriven tone. The neck is butter, makes the guitar. I did buy it second hand with a different pickup than stock, the Seymour Duncan 78'. Less hot than the Frankenstein pickup it comes with. If I got another, it would be a single or double cut with a single P-90 for sure. Have a blessed weekend with your family and friends as well brother.

The "one pickup" keeps you EXTRA FOCUSED...and changes your "musical thought process" regarding "how" your going to "get that tone" you are looking to use within a song or phrase or solo. Incredibly...there is SO MUCH TONALITY to be achieved within this one pickup...one volume knob & one tone knob...and that's BEFORE you even start stepping on any pedals for effects! What fun!!! 100% brother! There are times that being away from the guitar for just a few days to a week or more can take me some time to get back into the groove. Sometimes much longer than 30 minutes, maybe even days. I can kinda feel inspired in my brain but the fingers don’t want to oblige. Other times it could be the opposite and just be musical burn out from being tired of listening to myself play and demanding more from myself but coming up short. Call it musical frustration I guess. To try and get back into the groove for me could be watching other musicians perform on UA-cam (like yourself) or watching a dvd concert and getting inspiration to pick up my guitar and just noodle around with some licks and start feeling that groove again. And like yourself I love playing some shuffle blues or swing style stuff because that style is what I love playing the most because it’s a way to really express myself on the instrument. Love your videos brother. It’s great motivation and learning from great musicians like yourself and knowing that we’re not alone with life’s musical journey. And by the way……..I liked what you played there a lot….even if you thought it wasn’t your best. I will be away from my guitars for over a week before I can get back into them. And like yourself I will have to work my fingers and my musical soul back into doing what I love….playing my guitar. I will try and throw out a probably rough guitar take demonstration of a clean tone on my new Tone X One pedal! Talk soon brother and blessings to you both.

    Hey Brother Dan… I put a glider patio swing together this weekend. My bride ask me last night to play Mr. Bojangles. It was the first song I ever played for her some 46 years ago. I learned a finger style version from my dear friend and great talent Maurice Ramsey in Huntsville,AL. He was one of the best Chet style pickers I’ve ever heard. Spent a lot of time with him and his friend (Curly Putman) in the late 60’s and early 70’s learning finger style but never really got a good grip on it. Long story to say this… I can hardly hold a guitar much less play one right now. Chores around the house hinder guitar playing from time to time so I get it. I have a challenge for you. I want you to loop up a version of Jerry Lee’s “How’s my ex treating you”. I can already feel your special cover of this tune so get those fingers loose and let’s hear your version of the Killers tune. Bless you my friend.

      Brother Rodney...several connections here;) First...Mr. Bogangles...one of my dad's favorites;) Second...Mr. Curly Putman was an aquiantance of Mr. Eldridge Posey...a dear friend of mine who he and I wrote over 140 songs together over the course of our 10 years together. Eldridge passed last year...but would often speak of Curly with fond stories. Third...Hank Jr.'s version of "How's My Ex Treatin' You" (I believe on his "New South" album)...one of my favorites. And forth..."The Killer"...one of my ALL-TIME favorites...saw him in Hawaii when I was a child. Waited over 2 extra hours as he was "notoriously" late for his concerts...and this one was no different in the early 70's. When he finally took the stage...in a metal building located on the Schofield Airbase with no AC (just those giant fans overhead that moved nothing but the hot air back down)...with over 2000 folks who have been waiting for him to show and play...he finally came out...jumped on top the piano...and started taking his shirt off...and the MP's grabbed him down off that piano...and took him away. Total concert time...46 seconds of the Killer! And yet...he is STILL one of my ABSOLUTE FAVORITES;) Let's do the song...and we'll have fun;) My prayers to you, your family and friends... Sincerely I am...Dan;) PS) I bet your beautiful bride enjoyed the music;)

    Some great playing and tone there brother! Question: Did you have the FR12 going to FOH on this gig?

    • @musicmandan1717
      @musicmandan1717 8 днів тому

      Brother Bob...thank you for the very kind words and for watching along with your question. Yes...you are hearing (recorded off an iPhone) a mix between the "Front of House" mains along with a projection of the cabinet coming from the stage itself. And here's a REALLY INCREDIBLE FEATURE regarding the FR-12: It has a XLR OUT that allows you to SEND the signal to the console (like most amps/cabinets) BUT that SIGNAL is NOT AFFECTED by the VOLUME CONTROL of the CABINET...you actually can SOUND CHECK your "FOH" level thru the mains WHILE the VOLUME of the FR-12 is SHUT OFF a.k.a. on ZERO. I personally have never had an amp/cabinet that wasn't AFFECTED by turning the volume control up or down...but this feature allows the FOH MIX to be UNAFFECTED as you turn the FR-12 CABINET up or down with it's VOLUME CONTROL. The FR-12 is proving to be the CLEANEST, HI-HEADROOM cabinet that I have ever experienced from a 12" speaker source...amp or cabinet. Incredibly clean, loud with beautiful definition revealed within the EFFECT PEDALS I am using...crystal clean reverbs and delays...I am "hearing" these like I have never heard them before..."Live". But the KEY is the LINE LEVEL INPUT from the IR you are using & for me...the BOSS IR-200 is the PERFECT IR for my applications...so much so...I now own 3 of them in addition to an additional FR-12 cabinet. Thank you again for your question...and I hope this helps. I will be doing an "Update" video on using the FR-12/Boss IR-200 combo as many have asked;) My prayers to you, your family and friends...Sincerely I am...Dan;)

      Great info! Thank you again. I don’t really gig all that much anymore. Maybe a half a handful of times a year. But as I age I find it quite difficult to hump a heavy combo amp and 12x24 pedalboard loaded with pedals. I’m in the process of putting together a lighter weight solution for the few times that I DO get out to play, and the FR12 was something I was looking at for that purpose.

      Brother Bob...if I were picking one "cabinet" to play...this is it. Just be sure to hit the "Input" with a "Line Level" signal as opposed to an "Instrument Level" signal...if you get one;) My prayers to you, your family and friends...Sincerely I am...Dan;)

      Brother Charlie...thank you for the kind words;) In the very beginning here in the Florida Keys...performing as the "Coconut Cowboy" starting in 2016...I played acoustically...with the thought being everyone wanted to hear "Jimmy Buffet...Island-style music" & this style & delivery would "dominant" the desired performance. But within a short amount of time, I realized that folks wanted to hear the "Classics" within the Rock & Southern Rock genres...which then bled over to Country & MoTown...and at that point, I switched over to an "electric" guitar...and haven't turned back. I will see if I can post a few "Live" clips from performances that are on FB;) My prayers to you, your family and friends...Sincerely I am...Dan;)

    Great playing and excellent demo! Other than hearing of the AIO brand, I didn't know anything about them until your video. I own too many [?] guitars right now, high end, mid priced and some budget. I do need another Tele. :-)

      Thank you for the kind words and for watching SinnerTrain (cool name;). The AIO guitars I own (4 of them in all) are all "top notch" quality...parts...setup...literally "studio ready" out of the box when I have received them. This "T-style" guitar is slightly on the "heavier" side of weight...of which I don't mind. Ironically...I just changed out the bridge pickup...not because it "needed" to be but because I "wanted" to try a Fender Vintage '62 in it...which is slightly "hotter" than the Wilkinson that was in it...not "better or worse" regarding tonality...just different. I'll be posting an "Update" of this new "change" in an upcoming video...and I thank you again for watching and the kind words;) My prayers to you, your family and friends...Sincerely I am...Dan;)

    Great old classic brother and beautifully performed!. Loved Reggie’s guitar work on that. I believe I heard that he used an LP Deluxe for the opening riff and a tele for those snapping low string fills. Speaking of Reggie Young, he is one of my all time favourite guitarists. I would have loved to have met him because he seemed like such a great and humble guy. I meant to ask you if you ever met him. I’m sure you could have chatted for hours. Blessings from us to you both!

    • @musicmandan1717
      @musicmandan1717 17 днів тому

      Thank you Brother Darren;) Mr. Reggie Young...in my humble opinion...ranks among one of the "Most Influencial Session Players" that is not mentioned with frequency...and there are MANY of those that "made the music"...but are not "known" by most guitarists. He is ONE of MANY I wish I spent time with talking...picking his brain...asking "young guitar player" questions that now seem "so obvious" in answer but, back then, were part of "life's great mysteries" concerning music. I can't recall exactly "where" I would have "shook his hand"...lots of gatherings thru the years including celebrations and more so...funerals...but I know I did a couple of times...just never in the environment to "sit and talk". His playing on those early Hank, Jr. albums..."Rowdy", "Whiskey Bent & Hell Bound" & "Old Habits"...his fills and tone distinquished by that MXR "Script" compressor are...to this very day...some of my ABSOLUTE FAVORITE "fills behind the singer" moves...especially on the song, "Old Habits". For whatever reason, his name was not "mentioned" much in the 1990's when I first began doing "demo sessions"...but by the time I got established within my own studio environment in late 1991...I can't tell you "how many times" my "fills & solos" were "Reggie Young" influenced...even if I didn't "know it". His "feel for the fill" was...to me...some of the finest I have ever heard...and I attibute this to the fact that he mainly tracked in "realtime"...with everyone "playing at once"...from the beginning of the song to the end...with many time the "1st take" being the "Master Version" used on the recording. The "overdub" has not "desired" to be used by the musicians of his day as they "enterned" the recording of the song with a "complete production understanding"...but only after they had "worked out the details" in the initial "pre-production redowns" of rehearsing the songs and its concepts. I have met several "One Take Masters" and they are a "different breed" of Session Musician. Having the blessed opportunity of playing along side Mr. Don Helms for many years...and talking "shop" when it came to the legendary recordings he did with Hank Sr., Ernest Tubb, Lefty Frizzell, Webb Pierce, Marty Robbins, George Jones, Patsy Cline, Kitty Wells, Brenda Lee, Loretta Lynn and so many, many more...it always AMAZED my "Musical Mind" that these recordings were "NO OVERDUB...ONE TAKE" Sessions...therefore needing each of the musicians to "execute" to a high-degree of "acceptability"...in combination with their "fellow session players "effort"...ALL AT ONE TIME. When "OVERDUBBING" became available...the "mindset" of the Don Helms' & Reggie Youngs' of the "Session World" was still to "ATTAIN THE TAKE" within "one effort"...collectively. But, over time...this would change as the "overdubbing ability" gave Producer & Players the opporunity to "RETHINK" their "Parts" after the fact...providing the benefit of "New Ideas" that would come "later" in the thought process of recording...and ALWAYS AFTER HEARING those 1st IDEAS that normally would have been the "Keeper" takes. This was the "Recording World" I entered...but had the privilege of recording and performing with "ONE TAKE WONDERS"...True Musical Masters that had this INCREDIBLE SENSE of MUSIC, MELODY, FEEL and the ABILITY to EXECUTE...quickly...but never "in a rush" & always CONSIDERATE of their Fellow Musician and the focus of "combining each other's musical effort" for the benefit of the song and it's outcome...IN ADDITION to considering "WHO" the ARTIST was they were either "performing or recording" for...and trying to KEEP MUSICAL UNIQUNESS in place for EACH ARTISTS. Today...no one PAYS PRODUCTION ATTENTION to "what" is being recorded...and therefore EVERTHING SOUNDS THE SAME. But ONLY if you LISTEN to Today's Music...which I do not do much of. Give me REGGIE YOUNG and the CLASSICS all day long;) Hey...this might be a title of a new Country Song...let's write it;) My prayers to you, your family and friends...Sincerely I am...Dan;)

      @@musicmandan1717so well said brother. Reggie’s solos, licks and phrases were so well played in just the right place. They fit the song because Reggie listened so well and played the phrases that “answered” the verse. Reggie played the note/notes that said it all and moved us. Thankfully we have a catalog of those great songs that Reggie played on to go back and listen to.
