well put Dan... Thanks so much for sharing your talent and thoughts on this subject. I'm a fan of Guthrie & Tom also.. Like you I found Guthrie during Covid. I think I'd see Tom doing something in his garage? Keep up the good work, hope your family is all well

Extremely helpful, thanks Dan... I think a good lesson in retuning is learning Fearless by Pink Floyd.. Billy Strings did a great live cover, although his tuning is not original due to that fact that he was accompanied with a Banjo and 8 strung Mandolin looking thing. Nightmare to retune them all for 1 song. The original tuning is GGDGBD.

Great advice brother. It’s nice to stretch out in solos and just go for and try to create. In fact my latest video of 10 minutes long jamming is just about that topic. Playing extended breaks, falling on my face, getting up and keep going but learning and enjoying. I also mentioned your great channel in my video description and posted the link. Cheers my friend!

Brother Darren...I have been meaning to "Thank You" for the kind words and the mention in your post...I sincerely appreciate you doing so;)
I enjoyed your video...the extension of "performing" creates a "Creative Demand" that is truly a "great tool" for learning...but very "musically fearful" for many pickers...as "who" wants to make a mistake in front of anyone?
I applaud the fact that you are willing to "Show & Share" your musical "extended" efforts"...showing that "Length = Demand of Creation"...and within this "extension", any "defects" that are "mistakes" are simply a "Learning Experience"...and in my mind...more valuable that "what" I would TYPICALLY pull out of my "Mental Arsenal" to INSURE I DON'T MAKE MISTAKES...or in other words...ALWAYS "Playing It Safe".
Your performance in your "Extended Video" also creates a VALUABLE OPPORTUNITY for the LISTENER to do just that...LISTEN & ANALYZE...which is EXACTLY "what" Musical Ears need to do in order to "MUSICALLY UNDERSTAND" the potential "PURSUIT OF NOTATION";)
My love and prayers to you both...and let's catch up soon via FB...I have some SOLID INFORMATION to share with you regarding the FR-12 & the Boss IR-200...a TESTED & TRIED WINNER! More info to come...
      Sincerely I am...Dan;)

Great video Dan. I found Guthrie during the pandemic. Love his approach to the instrument for sure.

You earned yourself a sub. I'm 3 months in on guitar. To be fair, I've been playing guitar-shaped objects (bass) for over 30 years so I know some shapes and tricks and what sounds I want to make on guitar... and given time to work them out I can make them and "fake it" as a guitar player. But one thing I want to re-iterate from Dan is looping. I am not good on guitar (yet) but I will say that being able to loop something ( ua-cam.com/video/vYOyXIr5gVc/v-deo.html ) and work it out is the cheat code. It doesn't have to be an advanced looper - get yourself the $99 Ditto and get to work... in fact, get for $60 used and save the change for beer. Cheers.

Thank you for "joining the journey" with me MusicMaiestro88 as I am grateful for your time along with your insight;)
Coming soon...and by request...I'll will begin a weekly "Looper Lesson"...something quite a few folks have asked for and a wonderful method for "creating" your own "band" environment to perform to.
My prayers to you, your family and friends...and enjoy the brews;)
      Sincerely I am...Dan;)
