100% brother! There are times that being away from the guitar for just a few days to a week or more can take me some time to get back into the groove. Sometimes much longer than 30 minutes, maybe even days. I can kinda feel inspired in my brain but the fingers don’t want to oblige. Other times it could be the opposite and just be musical burn out from being tired of listening to myself play and demanding more from myself but coming up short. Call it musical frustration I guess.
To try and get back into the groove for me could be watching other musicians perform on UA-cam (like yourself) or watching a dvd concert and getting inspiration to pick up my guitar and just noodle around with some licks and start feeling that groove again.
And like yourself I love playing some shuffle blues or swing style stuff because that style is what I love playing the most because it’s a way to really express myself on the instrument. Love your videos brother. It’s great motivation and learning from great musicians like yourself and knowing that we’re not alone with life’s musical journey.
And by the way……..I liked what you played there a lot….even if you thought it wasn’t your best.
I will be away from my guitars for over a week before I can get back into them. And like yourself I will have to work my fingers and my musical soul back into doing what I love….playing my guitar. I will try and throw out a probably rough guitar take demonstration of a clean tone on my new Tone X One pedal!
Talk soon brother and blessings to you both.

Fantastic lesson Dan, and yes it's very true that life does happen and you won't always get a chance to play. It does take time to what I like to say "oil the fingers" up, but those times when you aren't able to play, sometimes you go back and you get even more creative which is a pleasant surprise at times. Good to hear you play, that guitar sounds good by the way, that was a really nice loop too. All the best to you and your family, God Bless! 🙏- Bri

Hey Brother Dan… I put a glider patio swing together this weekend. My bride ask me last night to play Mr. Bojangles. It was the first song I ever played for her some 46 years ago. I learned a finger style version from my dear friend and great talent Maurice Ramsey in Huntsville,AL. He was one of the best Chet style pickers I’ve ever heard. Spent a lot of time with him and his friend (Curly Putman) in the late 60’s and early 70’s learning finger style but never really got a good grip on it. Long story to say this… I can hardly hold a guitar much less play one right now. Chores around the house hinder guitar playing from time to time so I get it. I have a challenge for you. I want you to loop up a version of Jerry Lee’s “How’s my ex treating you”. I can already feel your special cover of this tune so get those fingers loose and let’s hear your version of the Killers tune. Bless you my friend.

      Brother Rodney...several connections here;)
      First...Mr. Bogangles...one of my dad's favorites;)
Second...Mr. Curly Putman was an aquiantance of Mr. Eldridge Posey...a dear friend of mine who he and I wrote over 140 songs together over the course of our 10 years together. Eldridge passed last year...but would often speak of Curly with fond stories.
Third...Hank Jr.'s version of "How's My Ex Treatin' You" (I believe on his "New South" album)...one of my favorites.
And forth..."The Killer"...one of my ALL-TIME favorites...saw him in Hawaii when I was a child. Waited over 2 extra hours as he was "notoriously" late for his concerts...and this one was no different in the early 70's.
When he finally took the stage...in a metal building located on the Schofield Airbase with no AC (just those giant fans overhead that moved nothing but the hot air back down)...with over 2000 folks who have been waiting for him to show and play...he finally came out...jumped on top the piano...and started taking his shirt off...and the MP's grabbed him down off that piano...and took him away.
Total concert time...46 seconds of the Killer!
And yet...he is STILL one of my ABSOLUTE FAVORITES;)
Let's do the song...and we'll have fun;) My prayers to you, your family and friends...
      Sincerely I am...Dan;)
PS) I bet your beautiful bride enjoyed the music;)
