Wow, timely video my friend. I just replied on a different thread/video. Thank you for this. In addition to strobe tuner, Amp modeler and equalizer, looper, chorus, I am adding an Echoplex EP Pre preamp and my trusty BK Butler tube overdrive to my chain, as soon as BK sends it back to me off his bench. Monday morning I am finally going to go order the Fender FR12 and a trusty ToneX modeler. Its time to go down this rabbit hole, once and for all.

Oh man!!! That guitar pickin!!. Now that’s how I wish I could play! Forgive me brother but I’ve got to slow this down and steal what I can! And even slowing it down to learn a few licks will still be a chore for me. The bends and phrases are just so beautiful. And you’re just ripping through it like it’s nothing. Wow!
And the real world tone coming through that setup with the IR-200/Tone Master FR-12 sounds golden but no doubt also from the golden hands of the picker. And thanks to you I’ll soon get my hands on a Tone Master FR-12 to go along with my Boss IR-200. And that Boss looper too! Which speaking of looper pedals, you are a magician at that too. Looking forward to more looper lessons!
Dan that’s a killer demo man. It’s no wonder that you get the call for so many sessions. I’m proud, humbled and blessed to know you as a friend. God Bless brother. Will talk soon!

My Brother Darren...these are very kind words and I am grateful for them as I am for the "Musical Time" we "technically" spend together...with the high-patience level of our beautiful gals when we are on FaceTime;)
I will say...since the addition of the Boss IR-200/Tonemaster FR-12 & the "right pedal configuration" that we've discussed and you've help me with, the "extras" that I am hearing from the guitars to the effects pedals are truly "inspiring".
There is a tremendous sense of "Clarity" that I am hearing literally for the 1st time thru "Live" performace rig...at any volume level...but especially at the "higher" volume levels I perform "Live".
This "Clarity" is not only helping me as a guitar player to "execute" more "musical ideas", it also is allowing me to stay "focused" upon "making music" and not dealing with so many of the "sonic gremlins" I would chase will on stage.
And...this "new" pedal configuration works incredibly well thru the rest of the Tonemasters...a much ADDED BONUS...especially when you look at the Boss IR-200 as just an "effects" pedal.
As the FR-12 "needs" an "amp sim" style pedal to function correctly...the Boss IR-200 will not be coming off the 3 PERFORMANCE BOARDS I now have...it has become a "Foundation Pedal"...and I am looking forward to you explaining to me "how" it actually works;)
My prayers to you & beautiful Paulette...and Loopee (Vicki) sends a hug & prayers too;)
      Sincerely I am...Dan;)

Great little demo of your new guitar and tour of the pedalboard Dan, you sound real good as usual! I gotta say that that little taste of the flanger sounded sweet. Maybe I just hardly ever hear that effect anymore.

    • @musicmandan1717
      @musicmandan1717  2 місяці тому +1

Thank you Brother Chuck;) The effect you are hearing is a "Phaser"...so very similar to the "Flanger" and, in my opinion, both are needing to "make a comeback" as I enjoy them both;) My prayers to you, your family and friends...Sincerely I am...Dan;)

Hey Dan, I've listened through this a few times now and have to say how really great it sounds and how great your playing of that country / pedal steel sound is. My question is that is that a pre-set in the IR-200 to give that sound or is it something you (or your brother by what you say) have dialled in? I've never used any 'amp modelling' or 'IR' before but your sound maybe convincing me otherwise. I play a custom shop Tele thru a '64 Deluxe reverb but doesn't sound anywhere near as good as your set-up. Love to hear back from you. Thanks Ricky

    • @musicmandan1717
      @musicmandan1717  2 місяці тому

Brother Ricky...thank you for these kind words and for watching as I sure do love those "pedal steel" and that "classic country feel"...which I am very familiar with as it is a major part of my "Musical Fabric"...woven into my "musical mind" since a child with echos of Jimmy Rodgers to Hank Williams...Ernest Tubb to Loretta Lynn...Conway Twitty to Merle Haggard & George Jones (with several of these legendary artists I had the pleasure of both spending time and performing with) continually being "played" in my head...even when I am "playing" some other style & genre;)
Here's a few things to consider regarding "What" you are hearing me do & "How" I am trying to "Achieve" those sounds: The CAPS are to note what I feel to be IMPORTANT;)
      1. Regarding the Boss IR-200...I am using Preset 001...literally "right out of the box". This is a "high headroom clean" model...and the 1st & ONLY preset I have used since purchasing 3 of these units within the past month.
The ONLY CHANGE I have made to the preset is cranking the "Level" (volume) knob to 100 as its "Default" is 60. This allows the EVER-IMPORTANT "LINE SIGNAL" to favor "WHAT" the FENDER TONEMASTER FR-12 "needs" for an INPUT SIGNAL..."LINE SIGNAL...not INSTRUMENT SIGNAL.
The FR-12 is a "Cabinet"...not an "Amplifier"...and therefore this "SIGNAL AMOUNT CHANGE" is critical...and therefore done on the Boss IR-200 via the "Level" knob.
      2. I am using 3 DIFFERENT REVERBS...and sometimes ALL 3 AT THE SAME TIME & all DIFFERENT "DECAY" VALUES.
The 1ST REVERB comes from the 001 Preset on the Boss IR-200...a "Hall" reverb that is very slight...but very pleasant...and part of the "Preset".
      I like it...so I leave it on 100% of the time...as it's "barely there"...but "there";)
The 2nd REVERB is coming of the NuX "Atlantic" pedal which also offers a "Tap Tempo Delay". I use the "Spring" reverb setting and have a "Decay" that works well for both "ballads & mid tempo" songs as not to "wash out" any fast chicken pickin';)
If the song gets "too fast" for the "Decay" of the reverb, I simply "shut it off" and rely on the "Tap Tempo Delay" to provide a "Slap Back" feel for the country pickin'.
The 3rd REVERB is coming off the new Keeley "Hydra"...that additionally offers a "Tap Tempo Tremolo". This reverb is set on a "Spring" style with a very "long" decay...haunting...and PERFECT for the SLOW STEEL COUNTRY BENDS & helps to provide that "LINGERING" feel to the notes.
      3. At ANY TIME...ALL 3 might be on...either by "Choice or Accident" (sometimes during a "Live" show I simply "forget" which pedal is "On") but...MOST OF THE TIME...when used for those "cryin' steel guitar bends" or those "hardcore country licks and phrases"...it is the "Sound" I am looking for.
ANY ONE of the THEM works GREAT...and ANY COMBINATION does too;)
      4. Learning to PERFORM to the DECAY of the REVERB is a "CRITICAL PART" of EXECUTING this "feel" as the REVERB provides another DEPTH of EMOTIONAL DIMENSION in the "Expression" of your playing.
      5. A guitar that has that "SHARP SONIC BITE" i.e. the "bridge" pickup on a Telecaster is "the ORIGIN of the SOUND".
When you COMBINE the "Ice Pick" twang (which may be "harsh to the ears" alone) with the REVERBS...the REVERBS help to "SOFTEN the HARSHNESS" yet provide that familiar "TWANG" that I am looking for.
The "HIGHER FREQUENCIES" are so much more "PRESENCE" therefore become the "SONIC FOCAL POINT" to the ears of the Listener...and therefore "learning" how to "take advantage" of those "PIERCING TONES" in a "SONICALLY PLEASING MANNER" surely is a "TRICK" to learn;)
      6. The BOSS IR-200 is CRITICAL for my 2 TONEMASTER FR-12 CABINETS...which now are my MAIN SPEAKER SOURCE for my "Live Guitar Rig"...and it is 100% A MUST-HAVE for me with those cabinets.
      7. THE BOSS IR-200 IS NOT a 100% MUST-NEED if you are using an "AMPLIFIER" as an "AMPLIFIER" has is "own qualities" such as the TONEMASTER TWIN REVERB, SUPER REVERB & DELUXE REVERBS I own...they sound GREAT...on their OWN ACCORD.
But...THE BOSS IR-200 surely DOES NOT "SONICALLY HURT" these AMPS...as it is EXTREMELY PLEASANT in ADDITION to ALL the other PEDALS that are RUNNING INTO the BOSS IR-200 with the BOSS IR-200 being the "LAST PEDAL in the CHAIN" prior to the CABINET or AMP.
For me...ALL 3 of my PEDAL BOARDS feature the BOSS IR-200 with PRESET 001 (with the ONLY CHANGE being it's "Level" changed to 100) being used 100% on the FR-12 CABINET.
As for the AMPS I own, I currently am using the BOSS IR-200 100% of the time...but I am not using these AMPS for any "Live" performances with frequency...concentrating my "sonic efforts and results" on those FR-12 cabinets.
The ONLY SHOW I used the BOSS IR-200 with an "amp" was 3 weeks ago when I let my friend use the "FR-12" (which he ordered one the next day) to try out his "Helix Stomp"...which sounded wonderful thru the FR-12.
This left me using my "TONEMASTER TWIN REVERB" for this 4 hour show with the pedal board "designed" for the FR-12...and ALL NIGHT LONG...I SO ENJOYED the SOUNDS I was able to "ATTAIN ON DEMAND"...lots of music...lots of genres...lots of stepping on pedals...while the WHOLE TIME the BOSS IR-200 stayed "ON"...PRESET 001 with the "Level" on 100.
I actually "liked" my TONE that evening...with the following week going back to the FR-12 and exact pedal board...and again...having a WONDERFUL EVENING of TONALITY...filled with MISTAKES from the "Imperfect Cowboy" trying to perform...but "sounding good" trying;)
My Brother ...I hope this helps...and if you have any more questions...please feel free to ask;)
My prayers to you, your family and friends...Sincerely I am...Dan;)

@@musicmandan1717 Thank you so much for taking the time to give such a comprehensive answer...eveything I needed to know. My local guitar store (GuitarGuitar London) is out of stock of both the IR-200 and the FR12 (must be very popular) right now but are expecting stock in a couple of weeks, so I'll give them both a try then. I'm listening to your vid as I'm typing and just love the 'POP' sound...I know a lot of the magic comes from the fingers though!
A little about me...62 years old, started playing guitar at 9 years old taught by my Dad, learnt playing old country music, Jimmy Rodgers (Honeycomb was the first song!), Marty Robbins / Grady Martin, early Sun Session...Elvis etc, love Scotty Moore, players like Jimmy Bryant, Mearle Travis, Chet of course, Albert Lee...and the list goes on! And more recently Doyle Dykes, Tommy Emmanuelle...and Brent Mason...he's seems pretty good!
It was about 12 or so years ago I started using a thumb pick which was a bit of a shock to the system but still use the flat pick mostly.
Over the years I've accumulated a collection of 30 or so guitars Teles, Strats, Gretsch 6120, 6122, PRS, Gibson (my Gibson Chet Country Gent sound good for counrty) and various amps mostly Fender but a couple of Marshalls, a Mesa and a Roland JC120-great clean sound.
Thanks again for your reply and all the posts and love your playing!

My Brother Ricky...thank you for sharing some "insight" on you as I sincerely enjoy the opportunity to "get to know" my fellow guitar picker thru the "miracle of technology" as it sure makes the World a "smaller place";)
Your "Musical Influences" are in the exact same "ballpark" as mine with some of them being the "Legends" I have been fortunate to perform with and/or for.
I had the privilege of sitting down with both Merle Travis (a few months before he passed in late 1983) and later Chet Atkins (again...a few months before he passed in 2001) in addition to playing with Doyle Dykes backstage at the Grand Ole Opry prior to an "onstage" performance by Doyle...and his daughter Heidi;)
Through the many years of session work, I have work many that Brent was the "main" electric guitar player on the session (as he was everyone's "Main" electric player in the 1990's) along with so many other wonderful pickers...such as the legendary Albert Lee as you mentioned...and absolutely one of the "Mount Everest Telecaster/Ernie Ball Chicken Pickers" of all-time and a favorite of mine;)
Your collection of guitars is truly a "wonderful & versatile Toolbox of Tonalities"...with some fine examples & choices within arm's reach;)
It is my prayer that you "reach for them often"...as they continue to provide the Incredible Blessings to be found within this beautiful "Journey of Music" we are blessed to enjoy...as I can surely relate;)
My prayers to you, your family and friends...and thank you again;)
      Sincerely I am...Dan;)
