No matter what musical genre floats your boat you have to love all of the Dobie Gray classics and you did that one justice my friend. The guitar tones were a perfect choice. You are 100% right about the song and the crowd. Certain songs can carry way over their time limit if the crowd is into it and that is definitely one of them. I'm always in midair wandering what you will do next. Thanks for sharing my friend.

Thank you for the kind words Brother Shaun & for watching;)
After all these years of playing and performing this song...I literally "learned" the intro about a month or so as I inadvertantly listened to the "original" on a playlist and the "Intro" caught my ear...and now...here it is;)
My prayers to you, your family and friends...Sincerely I am...Dan;)

Great old classic brother and beautifully performed!. Loved Reggie’s guitar work on that. I believe I heard that he used an LP Deluxe for the opening riff and a tele for those snapping low string fills.
Speaking of Reggie Young, he is one of my all time favourite guitarists. I would have loved to have met him because he seemed like such a great and humble guy. I meant to ask you if you ever met him. I’m sure you could have chatted for hours.
Blessings from us to you both!

      Thank you Brother Darren;)
Mr. Reggie Young...in my humble opinion...ranks among one of the "Most Influencial Session Players" that is not mentioned with frequency...and there are MANY of those that "made the music"...but are not "known" by most guitarists.
He is ONE of MANY I wish I spent time with talking...picking his brain...asking "young guitar player" questions that now seem "so obvious" in answer but, back then, were part of "life's great mysteries" concerning music.
I can't recall exactly "where" I would have "shook his hand"...lots of gatherings thru the years including celebrations and more so...funerals...but I know I did a couple of times...just never in the environment to "sit and talk".
His playing on those early Hank, Jr. albums..."Rowdy", "Whiskey Bent & Hell Bound" & "Old Habits"...his fills and tone distinquished by that MXR "Script" compressor are...to this very day...some of my ABSOLUTE FAVORITE "fills behind the singer" moves...especially on the song, "Old Habits".
For whatever reason, his name was not "mentioned" much in the 1990's when I first began doing "demo sessions"...but by the time I got established within my own studio environment in late 1991...I can't tell you "how many times" my "fills & solos" were "Reggie Young" influenced...even if I didn't "know it".
His "feel for the fill" was...to me...some of the finest I have ever heard...and I attibute this to the fact that he mainly tracked in "realtime"...with everyone "playing at once"...from the beginning of the song to the end...with many time the "1st take" being the "Master Version" used on the recording.
The "overdub" has not "desired" to be used by the musicians of his day as they "enterned" the recording of the song with a "complete production understanding"...but only after they had "worked out the details" in the initial "pre-production redowns" of rehearsing the songs and its concepts.
I have met several "One Take Masters" and they are a "different breed" of Session Musician. Having the blessed opportunity of playing along side Mr. Don Helms for many years...and talking "shop" when it came to the legendary recordings he did with Hank Sr., Ernest Tubb, Lefty Frizzell, Webb Pierce, Marty Robbins, George Jones, Patsy Cline, Kitty Wells, Brenda Lee, Loretta Lynn and so many, many more...it always AMAZED my "Musical Mind" that these recordings were "NO OVERDUB...ONE TAKE" Sessions...therefore needing each of the musicians to "execute" to a high-degree of "acceptability"...in combination with their "fellow session players "effort"...ALL AT ONE TIME.
When "OVERDUBBING" became available...the "mindset" of the Don Helms' & Reggie Youngs' of the "Session World" was still to "ATTAIN THE TAKE" within "one effort"...collectively. But, over time...this would change as the "overdubbing ability" gave Producer & Players the opporunity to "RETHINK" their "Parts" after the fact...providing the benefit of "New Ideas" that would come "later" in the thought process of recording...and ALWAYS AFTER HEARING those 1st IDEAS that normally would have been the "Keeper" takes.
This was the "Recording World" I entered...but had the privilege of recording and performing with "ONE TAKE WONDERS"...True Musical Masters that had this INCREDIBLE SENSE of MUSIC, MELODY, FEEL and the ABILITY to EXECUTE...quickly...but never "in a rush" & always CONSIDERATE of their Fellow Musician and the focus of "combining each other's musical effort" for the benefit of the song and it's outcome...IN ADDITION to considering "WHO" the ARTIST was they were either "performing or recording" for...and trying to KEEP MUSICAL UNIQUNESS in place for EACH ARTISTS.
Today...no one PAYS PRODUCTION ATTENTION to "what" is being recorded...and therefore EVERTHING SOUNDS THE SAME.
But ONLY if you LISTEN to Today's Music...which I do not do much of.
Give me REGGIE YOUNG and the CLASSICS all day long;)
Hey...this might be a title of a new Country Song...let's write it;)
My prayers to you, your family and friends...Sincerely I am...Dan;)

@@musicmandan1717so well said brother. Reggie’s solos, licks and phrases were so well played in just the right place. They fit the song because Reggie listened so well and played the phrases that “answered” the verse. Reggie played the note/notes that said it all and moved us. Thankfully we have a catalog of those great songs that Reggie played on to go back and listen to.
