Thanks for dropping by.
This channel isn't entirely sure which direction it'll be taking as it travels its way through parts of Asia with the purpose of, well, just seeing the place and hopefully talking to a few of the people who live there - we'll probably have to eat something along the way as well, I guess.
Most of the content will be simply wandering around the streets of Asian countries giving you my impression of life and hopefully the thoughts of some of the people who live there..
Thanks again for taking the time for stopping by and taking a look at the channel.
Cheers
Wayne

I don't want to come back.Perth.Bali.
Today I’m in Perth sneaking around the back alleys reliving my time when a camera would be slung over the shoulder in search of some photos in and around the city.
I meet two Australian ladies on the street who got the dates wrong for an event they wanted to attend and we have a chat. They tell me of their many trips to Bali, what they enjoy about the island, where they stay, and what they enjoy doing while in Bali.
A man who I thought looked like a typical Aussie I thought I’d like to chat with turns out to be a French backpacker working his way around Australian on sheep farms. He tells us of his travels, the difference between Australian and French sheep, how French and Australian women are different, and his future plans.
Coincidently, I meet a Balinese woman when asking if I could take a video of her and her friends. We talk about where she lives in Bali, how she came to Australia, and when she might return to Bali for a visit.
During the day I also stop at my favorite sushi place in the Perth and show snippets of what people are up to and what happens in the city on weekends.
It’s a great walk around Perth with only a couple of days before I return to Bali.

First trip to Bali was 1984 😂
I am living in Bali 20 years. So I appreciate your efforts speaking bahasa and generosity of spirit in your posts. Even for an old hand like me who has been privileged to attend my Balinese neighbours wedding (twice), I can appreciate your efforts. (I am in Seminyak and have wonderful Balinese staff, with 2 temples close by). Well done! 🙏
Hi Malcolm. Thanks for the kind words, and I'm envious of you having spent twenty years in Bali - I feel I should have made the move earlier. I think we can both agree the Balinese are very generous with a particular warmth which makes Bali a very enjoyable place to stay. Thanks, Malcolm.
Sometimes planes A is an aisle seat and sometimes a window. I once booked a seat on an airline site where I booked an aisle seat and on the plane it was a window seat. I dealt with it since it was a short flight but if had been a transpacific flight I would not have been happy.😊
I've never been on an airline with A being anything other than a window. I'm finding long flights are becoming a pain regardless the seat. :)
Death Star are probably the worst airline in the world I’ve had so many problems with them
I think the majority of airlines are a bit of a pain, Lucy. :)
Mate I grab the Aisle seat every time , Why you would want a window seat???
Because I like the ability to lean my against a wall to sleep, to look out the window at take-off and landing as well as to see land formations like lakes, mountains, coastlines, sunrises etc. Windows also allow you to see what's happening outside if there's a forced landing - where the fire is, debris in the water etc. Why do you like an aisle seat?
Very Simple Mate , I suffer from Benign enlarged Prostate,
just found your channel. Are you the bloke who did the SBS show they often show of a weekend chatting to people in the street from the early 2000s
A few people have said similar things suggesting I reminded them of him. No, I'm not.
Had some stupid b1tch try this with my business class seat from Rome to UAE on Emerites. They have window business beds and non window beds. B1tch took my window bed. "Get the fuck out of my seat c#nt" had her move fairly quickly out of my $6000 seat. It is never an accident
Great video ❤😊 going to Danang Vietnam 😊
Thanks. Have fun in Danang.
I've never been to Perth (did you come for the cricket?🤔) and realistically I never will, but looks ok to me, especially the wall art. Have you done photography professionally? Your old mono pics look really classy, and I've been meaning to give a shout-out to your B-roll intros, a lovely way to start each episode. I'll keep a note of your email, if I may, and see if that coffee is still on for late January.

Another great vlog mate. We are here now for 7 days and yes I can agree with you that returning to Bali offers so much more than the hustle and bustle of Perth.😊
It suits some of us that's for sure, oscydog. Thanks.
Great vid mate , let’s all not get short sighted and lose track of how beautiful our country is here. We call it the lucky country for a reason and Perth has always been just a big country town compared to the other capitals in Australia and that’s just how we like it ❤.
I agree Perth and Australia has a great deal to offer many people and we are very fortunate to have made our lives here.
Everyone is different. To me home is where my family is. Its not a physical place. Whats the point of being in the best place on earth if your away from family it means nothing
We all do have our own priorities and places that serve us best, mrporsche, that's very true.
Thank you but I'll stay right here at home without all the cost and drama. No poisoned drinks for me. 🤢🤮
You've got to do what you're comfortable with, John, that's for sure.

South Beach in Freemantle is a good place to show the beauty of Perth area. You will find an interesting mix of locals & tourists..yound & old, male & female...rich & poor..ying & yang..you will be able to meet interesting folks to interview..and a nice place for a swim.
Thanks, TF. A few people have suggested the Fremantle area to me now so I'll definitely file that away for future reference, thanks. I'm going back to Bali tomorrow so a bit short on time on this visit. Cheers
We in bali now Wayne for nephews wedding and tooth filing ceromony, had lunch at a nice local warung today in Sanur cost me $7.80 for me and my wife, had lunch at Perth airport day before only basic food and a drink cost me $47.70. Man! I love bali❤
Hey Jonesy. That's one eye-watering lunch bill for basic food, and it has to be said the value Bali can offer many of us is definitely a positive aspect of being there. Hope the wedding and ceremony went well for everyone.Cheers.
Hello Wayne Thank you for another wonderful video but this time from my old home town ❤ If you have time please go to Fremantle and visit a cafe called SUKU the owners Ric & Ria are from Bali and just such a lovely young couple and I think you would be very interested in their story….. starting in the markets to where they are now ❤
Hey Bernadette, thanks for the heads up on some people with a story, i appreciate it. Unfortunately I'm flying out again tomorrow - I was only here for a few days. Next time for sure. Cheers.
@ Very happy to hear that you are returning home to Bali ❤️
Great episode, Wayne. Love those black and white photos (thinking of Beauty for a Better World)
Hey thanks, Ninette. I'm happy to put something together for you if you like. I'll try come up with a theme to a few of them and write something. Cheers.
You can walk down a stall at markets in Perth and get excited about the oranges too 🙄
I sure do understand how others get excited about living in Perth, and it's orange stalls. Whatever "squeezes your juice". lol.
@ it seems you are infatuated with Bali because it’s exotic to you. Well that doesn’t make Perth soulless. Each place is unique and has its own history, politics, identity, economics etc. Perth is much more than just its CBD. There is a lot to explore outside of that.
@@nelsondesousa9304 Completely agree. i wasn't trying to suggest other people need not enjoy Perth nor find fulfillment here. My reasons for liking Bali are many and diverse but theiy're my reasons only. I certainly wouldn't judge anyone on their choices of places to live as long as they're happy. i'm sorry if you took offense to my opinion or preferences.
@@fiascodagama1 no I didn’t take offense at all. I just find it really narrow when some people describe Perth as dull (or even say Adelaide or semi equivalent places). I really think familiarity can breed contempt. I know many people that have chosen Perth as their home for reasons that include great beaches, wide variety of restaurants, event options, lovely parks, safety, clean air, high standard of living etc. Perth is a fabulous place to live and a city that is continuing to evolve. The CBD definitely needs a bit of work but the same can be said of many cities throughout the world where the impacts of Covid and high cost of living remains. It’s also unfair to compare Perth to larger and more international cities. It’s just dumb.
your definitely right about poms, paddys and kiwis....chasing the big bucks in little england with sunshine, on the other side of the planet....whilst theres still resources left to plunder...
I've always been amazed at the amount of Irish and Kiwi travelers I've seen around the world. For such small populations they sure do get around.
So agree with the comments here today, this channel has the most intelligent subs😊
Hey Jen. It's great that people are willing to offer their thoughts here with many giving a lot of consideration to what they're contributing. Very cool. Thanks as always.
As a fellow Perthite and someone who's love for Bali is at the same level it was good to see your last few posts on your transition to coming back here to visit family. We support two families over there and head back there from the 10th-20th of December and again late January. This trip coming up we will also be helping out a Balinese charity. If you have time for a quick coffee, before you head back or even if we are in Bali at the same time, let me know.
Hi Paul. Congratulations on the support you're offering to some of the families in Bali. I'm flying back tomorrow (Monday 25th) so probably can't fit in a coffee here in Perth, but more than happy to have a catch up if you find yourself in Ubud. Feel free to email me if you like at fiascodagama@outlook.com Cheers.
I will email you once we arrive. One of my Bali families live in Tembok and I personally know Ubud well and want to head up to 3 brothers coffee. Look it up and you will see why I want to go 😁
Wayne yes Australia is sterile and sometimes boring. But it is also a safe haven in times of trouble. Bali seems westernised however it is still a third world country and the situation there can change very quickly much to the surprise of tourists. Indonesia is held together by many various regions with their own values and culture. The disdain and dislike of Java and jakarta is very real and bubbles away just below the surface and is more intense in Hindu bali. Whoops ended up going a bit political there
There are certainly considerations when deciding to leave world class health care, a generally stable political landscape, relative lack of natural disasters... and it's naive to believe Bali or Indonesia doesn't have its cultural spot fires. One should never forget the events in Poso, Ambon and the like - you're right.
Yes agree.
My heart sank, I thought, oh nooo he moved back to Perth lol. I was born there but to me Perth lacks soul, unfortunately.
Hi Brie. I'm glad I'm not the only one who considers Perth a bit soulless. Perhaps one should return semi-regularly to be reminded of what they don't want.

Selemat siang Wayne …. Yes it is a culture shock and i understand completely how a return to overpriced sterility takes a readjustment…. Mungkin sekarang kamu bisa melihat Bali dengan sangat banyak ( appreciation) Thanks ever so much Wayne, your energy is infectious to the subject matter and now that I see you are a wonderful still photographer, I understand why you have such impeccable timing for the best outcome…. makasi teman saya 🙏
Hi Victor. I think you touch on something which is a positive in regard to returning to places we perhaps find sterile or uninteresting - it does indeed remind us of what we might sometimes take for granted. Looking back from the outside maybe gives us a new perspective or appreciation for where we really want to be. Maybe we should occasionally leave to remind ourselves of what we have, or conversely, what we don't want. Cheers.
@@fiascodagama1 Well said Wayne
Really enjoyed the video Wayne and such lovely people you were fortunate to have a chat with, live in Rockingham and choose to avoid Perth and only visit when necessary. We have had a chat on the Bali travel forum and where I learned of your channel. Cheers mate.
Hi Ron. The city has changed a lot over the years of course and has probably lost a little bit of character, I think. I remember there used to be hot dog carts, flower carts, and a more village-type feel to the place - now it's all a bit commercial without much personality. Although there a few more events in Forrest chase, i guess. Good to see you. Cheers.
Thanks Wayne another great video !
Very kind of you, Paul. Thank you.

Thank you for the insight on you home, would like to see more, however l have never had any inclination to visit Australia, none whatsoever. I’m South African but absolutely love Bali, hope to retire there one day, it was a choice between Bali and India but l chose Bali, love the people and hustle and bustle of daily life in Ubud. I plan to eventually stay with my driver who has 3 guest rooms at his house, as l have almost no family it would be a good option for me to live with people l love to be around.
I understand the willingness to live with the Balinese. There's a great sense of community and respect within the family enclaves making it a very warm and welcoming environment to be in.
Nice photography. Have you been doing much still photography whilst in Bali?
No, I haven't. This pesky UA-cam channel seems to take most of my attention these days but I hope in time it will need less focus and there'll be more time for the photography.
After you visit south east asia, the whole of Australia is bland .
There's just not enough chaos. :)
I love WA, so much cleaner than Bali cleaner air magnificent beaches and rivers, way less traffic great roads fantastic wine regions, I could go on and on. I love visiting Bali but the constant scams get very draining and food prices are comparable to where I live unless you want to eat veg and rice, after a few weeks I can't wait to come home not a place I would want to live
there is nothing like a reality check to sort out where your heart really is happy.
You're so right, Silvio. Just we need sometimes.
Brilliant vid Wayne! You echo my sentiments exactly. I've lived in Bali just over 2 years now, and other than catching up family, I just can't get enthused about returning to Perth any time soon. In summary, Perth is hot and windy, cold and windy, clean and dull.
Ha! It's all a bit sterile, isn't it? Give me uneven footpaths, roadside noodles on a wonky chair with someone playing a guitar that needs a few strings and the bustle of local life passing by any day.
Sounds like you have reverse culture shock, Wayne. I live in Jakarta, and when I return to my hometown of London, I feel like a tourist.
It's a weird feeling, isn't it? I mentioned to someone else that even though you've lived most of your life somewhere, your family and friends are there, you understand the traditions, culture, and how everything works, you don't feel you belong or fit.
You certainly know your home when you go to buy food in the St and realise for the priic of one Nori Roll you could feed yourself for a day in Asia
Ha! Ain't that the truth!?
Keren
Thanks.

Yes! Perth is always a bit of a shock when you get back from Bali.
Even without the furnace-like summers that can keep you indoors.
WAYNE.....CONGRATULATIONS!!! DONT KNOW HOW YOU DID THIS, BUT YOU MADE PERTH CITY CENTRE LOOK INTRESTING....FUN ALMOST 😮😀😃😄🤣 I totally get the thoughts and desires to be based in Bali. The first time I went to Bali was for 1 week with friends.....not likely to do that again, at least not unless we align with a similar mindset. My 2nd trip I went solo for 18 days....AMAZING ADVENTURES.....BUT WHAT STRUCK ME THE MOST, WAS WITHIN 2HRS OF GETTING BACK ON PERTH SOIL....I HAD THE MOST PROFOUND CULTURE SHOCK 🤯 THINGS JUST DONT MAKE SENSE TO ME HERE.....AS EVERYTHING WE DO IS BACKWARD....OOWCH GOVERNMENTS ARE FRONT AND CENTRE. AND FOR THE MOST PART OUR CULTURE IS TOO HEDONISTIC AT OTHERS EXPENCE.......😮
It's a strange feeling coming back to a place you know so well where your family and friends are all happily getting along in life and you don't feel like you fit. I'm still not entirely sure what it is, but Perth just isn't for some of us. Thanks, Vicko.

I don't fully understand Australian immigration policy - it confuses me how some seem to access residency quite easily and others are refused when on the surface it appears they would be a perfect fit. Thanks, Liz.
