Thx Wayne, your old Bali friend, like you say, gives much of himself so we feel great in having talked with him…. the carver’s are gifted with generational skills not to be lost… amazing 🙏
Hi Victor. mr Wayan is a really interesting guy and can tell many a long story. And the cafvers are there every day for those interested in watching them work. Thanks Victor.
Being legally blind myself this seems an appropriate video to comment on ;) Loving your videos Wayne. When I travel it is the daily life and culture of locals that I most enjoy experiencing so it is refreshing to see your videos showcasing this (along with your own experience) rather than the normal "instagramable" videos of Bali. Thank you for sharing, please keep up the videos and be happy! Padang sambal - mmmmmmmmm
It makes a difference learning some language when travelling.. I did a 2 week full time language programme in Yogykarta and found due to the relative simplicity of the language ie. phonetic and no conjugations, that it was sufficient to get by there. Since then have taken the odd class when in Bali. Nice to see someone make an effort with it and interesting to see how the people appreciate it.
Locals are very patient and it feels like even the simplest is appreciated. And I agree it's probably one of the easier languages to learn and worth learning a couple of words if you're coming. Thanks, bd.
Thank you very much sir for showing some wood carving, I'm just blown away by their craftmanship, looked like the one carving the guy was filling the cracks was Gollum from Lord of the Rings? I could of spent a couple hours at that place looking those over, so many different things from octopuses, lions, dragons, the piece of driftwood with the horses reminded me of a driftwood carving with elephants I came across in Thailand walking off the beaten path. Very inspiring! I have to get to Indonesia soon.
Hey, bluefish, you're most welcome - thanks for participating on the channel. I'll try include some more over time. YOU DO have to get to Indonesia. :) Cheers.
Ubud is great at wood carvings,Ideally, wouldn't be great to find cheaper rental&use as base to travel in Asia. I have to wait till next year to retrieve bead necklace I left in Ubud. In that pet painting shop in Ubud an Australian used to send photos from Australia&add her profit margin&bet it would be nice to supplement income. This week I noted small room in Osaka for $10 per day&could spend longer next time&I nice to see someone my vintage doing what I love although I get lost way too easily.Enjoy the ceremony,Suksma
Hi betty. I think Ubud is a great place to base yourself and explore from. And $10 per day for a room in Osaka is a wonderful find - well done! Yes, we might be a little older, but we're still interested in seeing the world. Thanks for dropping by again, bettyboop.
Hello from CA, new sub. Wonderful video. I studied dance in Ubud & thought I died & went to heaven living in Bali. Magic is still there...its the people! People in the west are so stressed with no group culture to support them. Why can't u live permanently in Bali? Visas. What about Kerala? Terima Kasih.
Hi Liz, thanks for dropping by. Bali is indeed a great place and you can live here under different visas which is what I'd like to do eventually, I think. Do you mean Kerala, India? There are definitely many places one could put down roots in the world, that's for sure. I hope you get the chance to return to Bali one day. Thanks again.
Really good price for that room at Rp1.000.000 a month. I wonder what the new price will be? Does it have aircon, WiFi. Is there a shared kitchen? Just curiosity, please. I have a few friends in Ubud and regularly see requests for inexpensive accommodation. Thanks.
Hi jenny. There's no A/C or insulation but does have a fan - there's also no hot water. There is a small kitchen which i believe is available for use and wifi, the one router services the entire compound of guest rooms and family. The new price wasn't mentioned.
Hi paolomarini. It's in Peliatan, Ubud. I suggest getting a place for a few days if you're interested in visiting and walking around asking at guesthouses or local places that don't advertise online - there's still a few of these types of places here, but they're becoming less common.
Bah 99% of foreigners aren't interested in living in a fan room in a family Kampung/ compound. Most local workers can't pay 1 mil RP rent. This is niche accommodation.

Thursday night will be interesting, hope you can film some of the ceremony
Me too, Jen. It's something I'd love to do, but of course you don't want to be intrusive or disrespectful so we'll play it by ear - I'm hopeful. :)

I'm friends with the Raja (King) of Ubud ☺️😁 His palace is amazing, very traditional Balinese, which I love.
Hi Jenny. Being friends with someone like that must give you certain insights others might not have.
@fiascodagama1 Ah... maybe ☺️ My husband lived with the Raja, at the palace, when he was younger. I mean, my husband had his own room there.
@@jennynairn1388 What an experience that must have been.

Nice video Wayne .Soon I'll be in Ubud ,do you think I'll have trouble finding a room for 200 aus a month? Cheers
It might take a little bit of walking around and asking guesthouses as there aren't as many as there used to be unfortunately. But they're still here.
ooh , nice to meet you how long u in bali

hi where are you from😊
Hi. I'm from Australia.
Its not good when foreigners go to bali and rent cheap rooms there....this rooms should be for locals which cannot pay more...
