Wow! The ceremony lasts for two weeks, and they started preparing it two weeks in advance? It must be a MASSIVE event! You're so lucky to be there, Wayne!
Thanks ☺️ I’m currently in Ubud and have been watching the structure being installed and all the intricate decorations being made. I was hoping that the ceremony would happen whilst we are in Ubud, unfortunately we will miss out.
Hi Aly. Oh, that's a shame you'll miss it. On the bright side, you're probably seeing a lot of local people in ceremonial dress with their baskets and offerings around the streets, and men with their knives at their side etc. I hope you've enjoyed your stay. Thanks for saying hi.
You really ought to know what is the correct dress for entering a temple. Kaman, saput, white dress shirt, udeng. Wear shoes which you can slip off and sit on. Show respect and you will be rewarded for it by the Balinese who will express their appreciation. I will be in Ubud for this, I will look out for you.
It appears Ubud is having a religious festival from 3/11 until 11/11. This is very interesting to know. I had no idea. Thanks Wayne. Did I get those dates right? I wonder what events will be on? I've tried googling to find out but I can't find out anything in English. These dates cover the period I am staying in a hotel in Monkey Forest Rd, so I look forward to experiencing whatever cultural events they put on. But what is it going to do to the traffic in the centre of Ubud?
Wow! What a great time for you to be here, Phillip. I thought proceedings started on the tenth of November for a week (?), but not sure. If past large ceremonies are anything to go by, a lengthy portion of the main road, Jalan Raya, will be closed to all traffic and the street becomes a pedestrian walkway which is a nice change from the traffic. All vehicles are diverted around the central intersection or centre of town. That enormous roofed structure going up on Jalan Raya will restrict any vehicle movement as it will be used to cover participangts of the festival/ceremony. What cultural events will be held in unison with the event I'm not exactly sure.
@@fiascodagama1 Sorry, I misheard what the gentleman said when you were talking to him. He mentioned they have been preparing for the festival since 3/9 not 3/11 but that the festival goes on until 24/11, if I have understood him correctly. Anyway, when I arrive on 2/11 I will go into the main tourist office at the top of Monkey Forest Rd as they will not doubt have some information about it. But unfortunately it seems the big ceremony is on 11th, which is the day I fly home, What a pity.
@@philipbewley1490 I was given several dates today by different people, Phillip, so may not be able to offer concrete details. I'll perhaps go to the tourist information place and ask next time I'm in Central Ubud. Feel free to contact me if you'd like to have a quick coffee while you're in town.
I spoke to a police man today. The ceremony is in 3 weeks time. Traffic is more chaotic as roads are blocked off. There is a large police presence directing traffic.
188cm is indeed tall for a Balinese. Balinese men complain that I am taller than them and I am only 175cm 😂 What a lovely man bapak is. I am really enjoying your videos. Kasih banyak 🙏🙏
@@JuliaOConnor-no1lq Thanks so much, Julia. You're a taller than average woman (I think) at 5'8 and would definitely stand well above most all Indonesian men. Yes, as I mentioned in a comment earlier there are some people you'd feel quite comfortable spending an hour or two with watching the world go by - bapak would be one of them. always appreciate you taking the time, Julia. Thanks.

Another great story.
Hi Chris. Thanks for taking the time.

It's going to be a huge event it seems, Richard. I don't really know what to expect - a lot of pageantry and probably a fair bit of chaos. Brilliant!
Another great video, thanks!
Cheers, Bruce. Appreciate you taking the time.
A wonderful conversation..Thank you
Hi Phil. He was a wonderful chap to bump into and someone you could easily sit with for a couple of hours - easy company. Appreciate it, Phil.

You are lucky .
You come to Bali while ceremony is happening.
Hi permanadijon. You're right. Very lucky to be here for a big ceremony. Have a great day.

@@fiascodagama1 yes indeed, I'm enjoying your videos and impressed with your bahasa Indonesia. Talking with locals is where it's at.
I catchup coffee next week when I am in town would be great. How would I contact you?
Hi philip. You can email me at fiascodagama@outlook.com. Available after 3pm any day. Cheers.
I wonder if this is an Ubud specific ceremony because I can't find it in the calendar of Bali ceremonies?
I'm not sure, riverleigh. I had a look for it as well and got confused - I'll ask the family where I live tomorrow what it's all about.
@@fiascodagama1 Cheers, that would be interesting.
