    You remind me a little of a guy in Oz called Andrew urban. He had a TV program called "Front Up", it ran on SBS TV in the 80"s onwards for a few years. He interviewed and explored the lives of everyday people he met in the street. There are so many amazing people who live extraordinary lives which disproved that we are just ordinary. Well done.

      I couldn't agree more, Silvio. Every single person has a completely unique and interesting life story even if they might not consider it so themselves. The idea we have to aim high in so much of life is wrong in my opinion, we should all be embracing our individuality and understand it is utterly unique to everyone else. Appreciate you taking the time as always, Silvio. Cheers

    I just subbed. You're the type of traveller I try to be though I tend to interact less because I sense the worst of the beer belly bintang shirt crowd have preprogrammed a lot of the people to be wary of all of us. I always think it's incredible we can live in countries like that, the technicalities seem so difficult. I'll go through your older vids soon, interested to find out how you got to live there. It's been my dream for 30 or 40 years.

      Hey dk77. You're right to a degree, I think. In the more touristed areas locals can be a bit hesitant to interact with some nationalities having developed a bit of a reputation. i first came to Bali in 1985 and have been travelling and living in Asia on and off for a while now. Thanks so much for the sub and hope to see you around some more. Cheers.

    Hi Wayne. Really enjoying your channel. You're actually living my dream. I am slowly teaching myself Bahasa Indonesia at home so i can explore the parts of Bali away from the tourist spots so the translation sub titles are most appreciated. I've fallen in love with the Karangasem area to the east. Thanks for sharing your adventures. Safe travels mate.

    Hi Wayne,I am.pleasantly surprised how the locals let you film them,particularly females,they must feel comfortable in your presence. Also,you are respectful with boundaries as 8years ago a travel companion was just putting cameras right in front of people&snapping away without talking or asking permission,I told her it was not appropriate. Also,I have found many expats doing alternative therapies in Bali,many charge equivalent of what is paid in west hence I opt out. Mostly I believe the locals are more suited to the therapeutic side.Many a taxi driver I have met&as you can tell they are not exactly stressing out as physical labour is mostly done by non Balinese&in Australia it is more about individual needs as opposed to cultures focusing on community needs&there is less isolation&discontent despite the quiet grumbling of too much $$ going towards ceremonies. I am.pleased you are now able to talk to that man as he probably realised how respectful you are. Have you visited the out of area compounds,I did not know where to look when the females were bathing as I am.modest. Your eyes might pop out if you witnessed that so sunglasses may be advisable should you go as at times taxi drivers take me to their family compound. Be very careful in traffic as many an Australian have required $200,000 to get back to Oz when unexpected has happened. Thanks for bringing me briefly to the only place that makes me feel more centred&myself 🎉

      Hey Stephanie. Yes, I'm a little cautious when approaching or talking to women and as I've noticed not all are comfortable with it. I've also deleted video footage in the past because I'm not certain it's OK to use.or I feel they're not comfortable with it. Naked bathing women in streams have come across my path on some walks but it's just simply eyes down and onward as if there's nobody there or nothing to see. I think drivers are an occupation that give some of the biggest laughs here, they're great fun. Unfortunately a few unscrupulous ones still exist. I'm normally very good in traffic but holding a camera altered my judgement today - it won't again. Thanks Stephanie.

      @fiascodagama1 Stay safe Wayne,there was a part of Eat,Love,Pray that gave a sad insight into a shady 'healer' utlilising taxi drivers to suddenly 'heal' barren women. I once read to be aware in Asia as not the norm for locals to approach you&have had some interesting encounters&people watching is rather entertaining but Kuta I can do without,have a good evening 🙏

    Hi Wayne i like the content. Indonesia is Australia's neighbour and a great way to connect and show interest is through language which you are doing a great job with. Couple of words that might help you...the food in the boxes = nasi kotak. Your friend in the other episode was making them the other day also. For the warungs when you are asking when they start and finish usually you say buka jam berapa and tutup jam berapa. = what time do you open and what time do you close. Keep it up mate

    Boys you meant did not refer to laki-laki, you can simply say "ok Bapak-bapak'. the use of Bapak-bapak (plural form of man) as the referral of men who are not young. Boys in bahasa Indonesia could mean 'bocah (little boy)' or 'anak muda (between 10-24 y.o). Remember Bapak-bapak (older boys in Indonesian's term) refers to a respectable word for men, it depicts your appreciation and acknowledgment that you respect them for their wisdom and age. To make it easy, next time you meet Indonesian men above 30 y.o. just call them Pak (short form-singular), eg. Apa kabar Pak? (singular) Apa kabar Bapak-bapak? (plural). And, do not hesitate to ask them to correct your Bahasa Indonesia, as this will help you acquire new words faster. Maaf, apa bahasa Indonesianya? begitu, tanya saja nanti pasti dibantu untuk membetulkan. Oh ya, bahasa Indonesia itu unik karena bahasa sehari-hari sangat berbeda dengan bahasa baku yang kita dapat dari buku. Selamat belajar bahasa Indonesia!!

    Whilst it's a good thing you are trying to use the Indonesia language I highly recommend you don't use or encourage using the word "Bule". It doesn't mean foreigner it means "White skin". Whilst in itself is probably innocuous, one must remember 350 years of Dutch colonialism and the lingering distaste for it. Hope it helps

    • @fiascodagama1

      Nothing wrong with the word, it doesnt mean white skin, its originaly a javanese term meaning white buffalo, meaning wealthy. Now has evolved to mean foreigner of any type and is commonly used by Indonesians.

    • @dalecollins-smith3551
      @dalecollins-smith3551 18 днів тому

      @ian-f5f nope.. you are right about the buffalo thing though. (Doesn't mean rich, it's a impolite thing to call someone an animal in Indonesian culture). Try asking an Indonesian to call a black African, Chinese, Arabic person Bule. Doesn't mean foreigner. Maybe it's karma for all the racist caucasians throughout history. IDK LOL
