Hi Janette. They were a lovely couple and very kind to let me into their world for an hour. Maybe you could buy a Balinese phrase book to just pick up some simple things - it can be fun, even when you mess it up. :)
Thanks so much for sharing the couple living with their cow, chickens and sweet potatoes. Also, the rice thrashing was great to see. Enjoying your channel. Hoping to visit the island again in the new year. Cheers
Absolutely loved this video. We are new to the channel but have been to Bali 9 times exploring the back and beyond including a bit of Java and Lombok. Love the hospitality of the Balinese people no matter what their standing is.🥰
Hi Sonja. You've been coming to Bali for a while now it seems and seem to have fallen in love with the place as well. I really like Lombok myself and look forward to going back for a look soon. Really glad you found the channel, Sonja. And thanks for saying hi.
@@fiascodagama1 I always thought there was no social security for older people but some people have told me there is a pension? The hard work prob helps them age better, the great attitude towards stress and close family connections. Very different to our country !
@@fiascodagama1 As with any language. One more tip: the words are mostly evenly stressed (between syllables of a word) unlike English e.g. JAL-AN not j'LAN; U_BUD not u-BUD; MAK-AN not m'KAN etc. WIll make your bahasa sound more natural.
This clip was really interesting. What a beautiful couple so warm and hospitable. As you know there is still a lot of poverty in Bali especially in Denpasar despite the opulence in some places. 😊
Very nice and happy couple with simple life. As long as there is still traditional harvesting, mothers still get income, how happy it is to see their enthusiasm. In my village, it is rare to harvest using traditional methods
I think the simple life is sometimes better for people than looking for fancy things. I agree it's good for the mothers and village members to have a reliable income from the local harvest. Goos to see you, Nurah. Where is your village?
Nice work! 🎉 Just a couple of observations, I would like to share: 1. Learning a language, in the initial stages produces hilarious answers to well meant questions. 2. Simple lives does not equal poverty, at least not in how they carry themselves with confidence, pride: offer hospitality and welcome complete strangers! You'll eventually get it mate, when you have traveled enough, understood what it is to be a seeker! Good fortune. 🎉 You repaid by threshing 😂
Ha! I'm sure many are having a bit of a laugh at the mangled Indonesian language coming out - it's fun though. I couldn't agree with you more on how one's financial status or position in no way guarantees a happy life. The couple today were incredibly proud, generous, and welcoming. Thanks for offering your thoughts, Sudden.
Hey Wayne - I don’t think those kind people could be happier with money by selling up - seems to me they were very happy with what they have - didn’t seem down or defeated at all - and they have a cow ! Seeing people like that living a simple life is a reality check for the rest of us Thanks for the vid 😊
Couldn't agree with you more, Steven. I think there are people who raen't interested in the trappings of material wealth at all. And it's been my experience those with less are invariably more content with their lot - and no, this couple weren't down or defeated at all. Personally, I think we in the west have lost out way a bit with some weird idea that the more you accumulate the fuller your life. Thanks for taking the time, Steven.
Another great little video Wayne. The hospitality of that couple reminds me of the saying taken from the Bible, 'Do not neglect to show hospitality to strangers, for thereby some have entertained angels unawares." I think that philosophy sums up the Balinese people to a tee. They are truly hospitable people and perhaps that is why so many of us have fallen in love with the place. I am sure they appreciate your efforts to speak Indonesian with them as well. Anywyay, only 9 days to go before I will be in Ubud myself, but who is counting - well,. perhaps I am a little bit.
Only 9 days to go, Philip? It' must be getting pretty exciting for you now. Yes, for the couple to accept an unknown stranger off the street is really very generous - lovely people. Thanks Philip.
Spot with threshing and tossing the grain is Winnowing as the saying goes to seperate the grain/wheat from the chaff. You likely already knew this but just in case hope it helps a little. And another really interesting video cheers. I actually wonder what they do next re storage or selling the rice?
@@fiascodagama1 I originally came from a farm so it wasn't a big time task just the typing😀 Another trivial pursuit answer that will never get asked as a question 🤣Threshing is often confused with thrashing because they sound similar and thrashing is what seems logical cause they hit with the plant so true in part but the process of separating the grain is threshing.
Sebaiknya kamu terus membuat dokumentasi mengenai kehidupan masyarakat maupun lingkungan Bali. Sebab, saya tidak yakin Bali akan sama 20 sampai 30 tahun yang akan datang. Semoga, kamu selalu sehat, bahagia, & sukses.
WAYNE I invite you to come to my house in Pangandaran ,West Java,I'm sure you would enjoy kampung life,I'm sure you could make some interesting vlogs come on down ,cheers

What a lovely beautiful couple, love the rice fields!
Hi bluefish. They are indeed most excellent people and great to spend some time with.
Thank you for sharing, I’ve just came across your vlogs & enjoying them 🙏

You will be so fit walking those stairs every day Wayne. Loved the older couple.
Down a size in pants, Chris. The older couple were really lovely people and I was there for quite a while just hanging out.
Oh my god the old couple was very nice
Aren't they? They're great.
Suksma (and terima kasih) for showing what truely makes Bali such a special and precious place ✌
Hi jarosoho. It's a place that once under your skin is pretty hard to leave. Thanks for saying hi.
Terima kasih telah berbagu, sesuatu yang belum pernah kami lihat di Bali. ♥️
Thanks deb. Hopefully we'll find some more interesting things to see.
Beautiful couple thank you for sharing xx
Hi lee-anne. They were very nice people to meet today. Thanks for dropping by.
Great Vid, enjoying your walks meeting the locals, maybe the less you have the more life becomes simpler.
Hi Neil. it certainly seems that way, doesn't it? Cheers.
The Balinese women work so hard even when older. What fun to be helping in the fields with them ! Mereka lucu sekali 😂
Unfortunately some older people are working longer than they should, it's true

Just started to watch you vids. Love what you do. Keep it up mate
Hey Andrew. Really appreciate you dropping by and saying hello. Thank you.
Use "boleh" more in place of "bisa" . . . "Saya boleh video Pak?" These videos are great, showing real people living real lives in Bali. Cheers!
Hi David. Appreciate your help, there's certainly a long way to go with this Indonesian language thing.

use "bisa" in the sense of can - eg "can I go this way to get to xx", "boleh" more in sense of permission, "may I take a video" . Keep going!

Ha! Yeah, the bikes can drive you crazy in some parts of Bali, can't they? Good to see you, cc. Cheers.
