fortunately im not subscribed to any book boxes (besides botm), so i usually buy the special editions secondhand through pango after hearing general reviews of the book in question. and it's so funny bc if im on pango and i suddenly see SOOOO many of the same S.E. book listed on pango im like "oh i see, NOBODY liked this book lmao"

A Feather So Black: just blah’d through this myself. Could have been half as long. So boring. At least good resale value. Evocation: I’m scared! I did like A Dowry or Blood but cheating is a no from me. Sun of Blood and Ruin: so bad. I admire your ability to DNF bc I wish I had. I read the whole thing and I felt like everyone’s actions were incomprehensible. Babel: also scared. Have been saving bc the Poppy War wrecked me and I need to be in the mood. Crimson smith: also enjoyed! That one was a surprise bc I felt it could have gone either way. I am with you though, I’m thinking of canceling one or both my YA/adult subs. Illumicrate also has been disappointing lately. Especially with ones that have low ratings, A Sun of Blood and Ruin and Fathomfolk (Illumicrate’s March)? Jail. These should not have been picked.

Bro the crimson moth was sooo predictable and unaspiring I was like it’s criminal how mediocre this is with all the hype going around it.

I gave A Feather So Black 4,5 stars 😂 I really enjoyed it! I did listen to it on audiobook though and really loved the narrator, so maybe that made the difference?

I enjoyed The Crimson Moth aka Heartless Hunter as well. I’m looking forward to the second book but hate waiting until Feb 2025 to read it 😫 I never planned on reading Babel after looking into the synopsis. I knew I would would bored. The special editions are pretty though so you should be able to sell them for what you paid for them easily and that can go into your book buying fund. I’m caught up with the lazy book club and read Julys book already.

I’m so sorry so many of these were flops for you! I’m jealous you DNFed Babel. My sister wanted me to read it and it took me over a month cause it was so boring and I HATED it! You summed it up perfectly and I really feel like it just got worse as it went. Hated the ending. Just all of it. Also loved Crimson Moth! So good! I’m reading A Feather so Black right now and am not very far in so I’m nervous about it getting boring. Eek! Such a bummer - the Fl edition is so beautiful. Wanted to add what my favorites are from your wheel as well, hopefully it helps you have some FL winners. I LOVED Bonesmith, Silver in the Bone, and Cruel Illusions. Some of my absolute faves!

OC is not for you. We have watched several of your videos...and you are easily disappointed..

Owlcrate etc can't please everyone. I don't like the color red....but there is something satisfying about having all the OC editions on my shelf! Whatever OC does...I will buy!

Your Alaska trip looks awesome! Love orcas, that soo cool you got to see them! Oh many sorry to hear you’re sick! Noro virus being called the cruise virus makes me scared to go on cruises. (Tho my sibling in laws go on Coheed & Cambria cruises every year and love em and never get sick!) Also your rant about fantasy worlds still need rules is soooo valid! Like I said I def need to feel immersed in the book and, unless I’m having a really good time and can ignore it, having no rules def makes it hard to suspend belief!!

Thanks for sharing some of your Alaska trip, it was really cool! My ex-husband's aunt lived in Juneau for most of her life and loved it there. When she came to visit, she would bring smoked salmon that she caught and prepared herself and it was so good. I'm sure the experience would have been even better if no one was sick during the trip. That stinks! I am finding that I do not enjoy most of T. Kingfisher's books. I don't know if it's the writing style or the actual stories. The one I liked the most is the next one to be released and it's more fantasy forward. That might be why I like it the most? I wouldn't be surprised if The Invocations was picked up for movie. They have 3 young women who all have different backstories but are pulled together for the same issue. The story wasn't what I expected but I wasn't disappointed. That special edition is gorgeous and represents the characters well. The only book I DNF in June was All the Colors of the Dark by Chris Whitaker. It was highly recommended by a bookstore IG account and listed as a dark mystery thriller so I was on board. Until I wasn't. This story dragged and I WAS SO BORED. I don't understand why the rating is so high on it. If I avoid reading something there is an issue so I threw in the towel and stopped. Maybe it's me and my taste in books aren't great and I'm the issue. Maybe you will like it? I am curious if it's a me thing. I read Leather & Lark with the unpopular opinion that I liked it more than Butcher & Blackbird. I liked the audio because of the Irish accent (swoon). It's not as gore heavy as the first one. The bonus scene at the end ads a little to Lark's character but is not for those who dislike spice and it's not a believable scenario. I know you aren't a fan of super spicy stuff so if you read the book, I wanted to give you a heads up.

my june reading was also really good! i don't read a lot of books, so the only books i read were "Dragonfruit" by Makiia Lucier (4/5) and "The Dragon's Promise" by Elizabeth Lim (also 4/5). dragonfruit was an incredible standalone and im looking forward to reading other books by Lucier. The Dragon's Promise is the duology sequel to Six Crimes Cranes (which i LOVE), tho TDP had been on my bookshelf for so long bc i THOUGHT i was promised dragons and their underwater kingdom, but by the chapter 15 mark, the protag was on the beach ready to head home and there was still 3/4ths of the book left. i was so pissed, that i shelved the book for months 🤣🤣🤣 but then i finally picked it up again last month and finished it and enjoyed it. to top it off, i had finally found a decently priced secondhand selling on pango of the Crimson Cranes/Dragon's Promise fairyloot editions, so now i have those beauties on my shelves!!✨

I was hesitant to recommend snow globe because I noticed our tastes are really different haha So I'm not surprised you ended up dnfing the book. 😂 I was still a bit hopeful though 😅 and it fit the prompt so well

My June was great. I've read 3 fairy tale reteling collections (short stories), two manga volumes, one horror short story collection (in Polish); I also finished "Ubik" and listened to audiobook of "Carmilla". Can't wait for that Fairyloot video!

Stages and mini chapters? This book is a Romeo and Juliet trope. The play has 5 acts that contain scenes. I think that might have been the point of the layout.

Love this room of yours (where you open the video in)!! Oh man I read this book a couple of years ago. And I agree with you! I found the boys kinda annoying. And while I didn’t hate it I decided not to continue the series. I tend to like multi pov but I think I agree with you on keeping blue and then next books introduce more. And yes it was both super predictable but also incomplete. Re greasy hair. You have naturally straight hair right? That tends to just be greasier as a given (my husband has pin straight hair and struggles with the greasy) but if you cut it it could possibly feel extra greasy cuz before the oils would coat more hair. But now there is less so it accumulates over less area. I’m explaining this horribly I hope you get me. (I have long curly hair and it’s almost impossible for it to get greasy (unless I have a lot of product) lol)

OMG I’m in the same boat as you for the romantasy. I also skipped one. Also wish I skipped this months. I do sorta want next months. But over all. I’m very much not into this sub. But also I don’t know wanna feel the fomo cuz fairyloot does knock out some stunning editions. And 100% with you I don’t want a hardcover edition of KU!

I gave this a generous 3 and do not plan on reading the rest of the series. If I read this as a teen maybe I would have liked it more? The boys chapters were boring and annoying. The plot was so vague all I kept thinking was “what is the point of this book?!” Also, not sure if I was so bored that I missed it but why did they want to find the landlines so badly and why did that psycho want to find it as well? It would have made more sense if they were looking for it to help find that kids murderer and Blu was helping out because her family are all psychic but when they don’t explain the point of it all very well it’s really frustrating. The fact that they were all hanging out with a ghost all that time and were clueless? 😑 I just kept waiting and thought it would all come out in the end but there wasn’t any satisfaction when it was over other than being thankful I can read a new book. Knowing this series was well loved by many I fully expected to love it. Nope

I generally liked the whole series, but the middle always dragged a bit for me. nothing much happened the whole book and then the final 100 pages were sooo good and made me want to read the next book lol (i did read them around the time the last book came out so it's been a while)

Babel was really good. That ending. I also enjoyed Yellowface. I just got The Poppy War on audio, and I think it'll be good based on Kuang's other writings. I was slightly upset that June for both Owl Crate and Illimictate was the same book and thay I didnt know in time to skip a month. I don't have Fairyloot, but those extras. Love the embroidery kit (I really enjoyed the Heartless Hunter) and the glass thermos.

Hello Kimberly, hope you are doing well 😊 I had very similar experience reading this book, it had me lost for concentration more than once. I almost thought I had slept through some parts and found myself suddenly awake not knowing what is going on. Moreover because I was listening it on audio, which I wouldn’t recommend because mainly the narrator sucks 😒. It is this very masculine voice trying to imitate young boys and don’t get me even started on female perspectives, that was terrible 😣. It’s not book’s fault so I will not be degrading my star rating over it, although it sucked big time. My favorite characters are definitely Blue and Gansey, especially Gansey 😊 I somehow had no love for Adam, I found him fishy from the start. I also very much liked Ronan as a character because I find him interesting and there is a lot to unpack right there. But considering characters I also have a slight advantage because of the following books I already read, I am currently on book 4. I am enjoying the story and how young it feels, it gives very nostalgic and serene moments as well as anticipation for what is to come next. I like to rate the books I read mainly on my overall enjoyment, and I can say, still don’t understand everything but I am certainly hungry for more. That said my star rating is ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

I couldn't wait for your opinion! Next books in the series are much better, with the third one being probably my favourite. I understand your feeling of being lost in that second update, that's how I feel too. Also, I loved their apartment! (the vibe of an old factory) I hated Ronan's brother until some point, and then suddenly everything was understandable. / Our Polish soft cover was edited so we only had the raven, not boys (but look up the hardcover versions from last year! They're so pretty [Polish tittle: Król Kruków ] ). Yes, Adam is really adorable! I love his character. As for Noah - yeah, that feet soo exciting to realise at that point. (I think it was on purpose, to make the reader satisfied that they figured that out. I love when authors do that). I must admit that at thiat point I flipped at the end and confirmed my suspicion. (At this point I'm asking myself if I'm not gaslighting myself with that memory? Maybe I read that ending first, before I realised that about Noah? But it definitely was the reason I continued despite some slower parts). My thoughts were very similar about the povs, but I promise it gets better in next books. No, don't worry about Adam. :) It will be fine :) Gansey plot line was imo the best (well, it's the main focus of the series). Ronan's bird is really cute! Don't worry about it too! Oh I love your guesses, especially knowing what will happen. [Maybe you're allergic to the shampoo they use? Ask if you can bring your own shampoo next time?] I think that's rating is fair! It had its downsides, and could be much better if done a bit differently. I think it was written to be quite predictable. At least the first book. Like I said, the third one was probably the best from the whole series. Please, please try the next book and tell us what you think! (I love your guesses at the end too, haha) Romance in the whole series feels very normal. Both the Blue's romance, and the other one (I won't spoil what I mean). My favourite character from later books: probably Blue's dad, but he was much different that I expected. And her aunt? I think? I don't exactly remember if I'm thinking about the correct character. --- Both my LL came, but I'm reading the God and The Gumiho now, and it's super great (reads like a fanfiction / coffee shop AU / but it's great. I have stayed all night tonight, and I had only 80 pages left, but I couldn't think anymore and needed to go to sleep to be able to wake up to church at 6 pm.). My Owlcrate's Of Jade and Dragons was shipped from America, but I have no idea how long it will take it to come here. And I'm trying to get my hands on Fairyloot's August YA, because I'm very excited for that book too (currently talking with someone to get it, and I really hope i'm not being scammed).

i remember back when i first read the book, i also felt the same about the different perspectives. i mostly enjoyed Blue's, and the boys i was just sorta meh about. the scene at the pizza place also had me cracking up so much! my sister was the one that introduced the series to me. i wasn't much of a reader but my sister wanted someone to talk to in person about the series so i gave it a try. the first book was a 3ish to me as well, and when i tried reading the next book i was so meh that i really only made it through the first 13 chapters, put it down one day, and never picked it back up lmao but again, i wasn't much of a reader. maybe now that im much more into reading i'll give the series a second chance.

Ok so I finished Unmaking of June farrow. I need some help bc I’m still confused lol. HOW is Margret and Esther younger when she returns in 1951?? At that time June should have still been in her 30s even if she stayed in that timeline her whole life, which would make everyone else aged as well….right??? Her age should never change, bc the years still keep evolving. Help!!
