Owlcrate etc can't please everyone. I don't like the color red....but there is something satisfying about having all the OC editions on my shelf! Whatever OC does...I will buy!

That last box was wild. But items in it were so cool :). For a moment i forgot that there has to be a book in that box too :D:D:D. I loved that clock and i would use that 28 books sign part without hanging books. It's just something fun.

I don’t get Owlcrate, but I’m with you, that checklist is so fun! I wish more boxes would do things like that.
I love the Pandemic board game series, the Clank! series, Arkham Horror stuff, 5 Minute Dungeon, and the Horrified games. I love Co-Op games and not really anything where there is bluffing. I'm such a bad liar 🤣

That portable stove is so cool! I wouldn't ever expect something like that.
Also, I love the clock. It feels a bit like steampunk.
Music boxes are generally cool. I'm not really a fan of GoT either (I've started the first book, but I'm not too excited about it)
Yes! Steampunk!!! That was what I was trying to think of. It's definitely very steampunk-like which is an aesthetic I'm obsessed with.
I was convinced the pins were just created incorrectly, but clearly they can be made right so it's almost more frustrating that the first three were messed up.
Honestly GoT doesn't get any better, so if you're not vibing with the books early on, it's probably not worth it

Those dust jackets from Lilac Library are so pretty!! I saw them online and they do such a great job. I don't have the set of books so I didn't get them. Maybe I will at some point. If so, I will order those because they are just gorgous. I'm not a fan of the new pins in the Owlcrate YA boxes. Not only are they not working well as intended, but even if they did I don't like the style of them. I'm extremely picky about pins and don't really collect them so to get them in a style I don't like is meh. I still haven't received my OwlCrate YA box and it looks like I might get it tomorrow. USPS kept it hostage or something. Normally I don't like to be spoiled but someone on The Nest posted it last week and already spoiled it for me so I figured I might as well get a live view of everything right? The book choice for the first Romantasy box was good. I've been seeing a lot of talk about that book and it came out nice. I like the original cover and they didn't seem to stay too far off from it. Shawn of the Dead is a stupid movie, but any time it was on TV I sat and watched it. It's more British humor than scary. I don't do Zombie or super scary movies for the most part and it was more silly than scary. I watched GOT and read the books up to where it stopped. The show was so upsetting because as soon as you like a character they killed them off. I needed therapy after watching it (jk, but seriously).
Oh that's kind of annoying that someone posted it on The Nest. I feel like that's a violation of the policy to not post spoilers? I hate when people post spoilers for everyone to see. Drives me nuts.
Honestly I am not a fan of the pins either. I think this is their weakest collection yet and they're almost too focused on making them fancy. The suitcase collection from two years ago was amazing. They should have just focused on a simple style, but executed beautifully.
I think everyone needs a little but of therapy after being exposed to GoT 🤣
Have to say that OC was not a hit for me this month. None of the items except the bookmark really did much for me. Glad I dropped down to just the book only.
The 28 Books display is pretty cool. I think you're using it correctly or at least that's how I've seen them. The string goes through the middle of the book so it rests on the little rectangle bit at the bottom. It makes it easy to change out so you could display a TBR or maybe 5 star reads for the month...
Shaun of the Dead was okay. I didn't love it, but now I understand the references.
That box was really nice! So many creative things and while I don't love any of the fandoms (just not a horror movie fan), I did enjoy all the items. The clock is so unusual and to give you a portable stove? The mushroom night light and the bowl are so much fun!
And to reprint the book? Without complaints? Wow! I just learned back in February, Owlcrate updated their book replacement policy to NOT give replacements, but points for their collective program, even if the book is printed upside down. Dings and dents would be given a small number of points, upside down a few more. They even admitted that they don't check books during quality control for upside down printed books. I learned about it when a booktuber received one of those books and they refused to replace it. I think it got enough notice that OC has backtracked a bit and changed the policy to let the customer choose between the points and a replacement book. Considering how much they cost to buy, to not replace something that was a misprint is insane to me! I get not wanting to for small scratches or dings but a full misprint?
So, yeah, that this company went ahead and shipped these knowing they were going to replace them all and didn't even wait to see if anyone complained because they cared about quality and their customers is amazing to see!
I had no idea Owlcrate changed their policy. I've been more and more displeased with how they've been handling things. Like I expect Fairyloot to be assholes about things, but I feel like Owlcrate (who talks about their amazing customer service all of the time) are heading down the track as well. I just don't think it's that hard to at least check one batch of books for GLARING errors.
@@kimberlyreads Right?! I had no idea either that they had changed. I checked my emails from the time period and their Insta. Nothing mentioning it that I could find. I used to think the exact thing-that they had great communication and customer service skills but this last year especially, it's been changing.
An upside down printing error is a manufacturing error and if they aren't checking for them, that's on them, not the customer and when books are 30ish dollars apiece, that's a lot of money to get a faulty product. Any major store or even independent store, would immediately give you an exchange or refund for that type of error. Not some points that probably don't even equal to the price you paid.
It very much feels like they tried to slip this in and hope no one noticed. I'm glad @nikkilovesbooks brought it up in her video because that's how I learned about it.

I definitely think fairyloot killed it this month.killed it this month. I was less impressed with owlcrate. I got the twisted retreat book only box and I didn't even notice anything wrong with the book until I got the email from them telling me it would be replaced. It's very classy on their part.
Lore of the Wilds is YA in the UK, it has also got really mixed reviews so far and even though the book is beautiful it is possibly one of the worst book choices to kick off the Romantasy box.

There aren't many depending on what you're looking for. Definitely Book of the Month and Aardvark where you pick your own books. I would say Owlcrate and Fairyloot Book Only are on the less expensive side by still $37 (shipping included on that price) for the US.
