your edition of home is where the bodies are is brilliant! i’d have bought that, too.
your disappointments make me slightly nervous - i want to read all three and actually have them sitting around waiting to be read.
my disappointment of the year so far is fyneshade. you know, how you sometimes have unlikeable characters but are still glued to the story and want to know what happens next? fyneshade wasn’t that for me.
my faves so far would be divine rivals, funny story, and dreamer’s pool. i also very much enjoyed reading the fury, the chronicles of ixia, and the crave series. the fury is definitely not for everyone but it worked for me; the crave series is definitely somewhat trashy but i was very entertained. i was also very surprised by the exception to the rule, a kindle short by christina lauren. planning to read more from the authors.
wishing you many five star reads for the second half of 2024!

I just finished the prisoners throne and I absolutely loved it. 5 stars. I also loved the raven boys. I have Already started the dreams thieves. I also have enjoyed the mortal instruments. I Still have the city of heavenly fire to read, but I am probably going to start empire of the damned next. Because I really want to read that while I can still remember the 1st book. I dnfed same time next year and wish I had Dnfed immortal longings. I would say the best books visually that I have gotten are illumicrate's fathomfolk and fairyloot's a feather so black.

Okay that is awesome to hear about The prisoner's throne. I've been putting it off. I honestly think City of Heavenly Fire was my favorite in the series so hopefully you love it.

I agree that the B&N special edition on Home Is Where The Bodies Are was brilliant marketing for that book. My order for The Wren and the Holly Library is due to arrive tomorrow and after seeing the case wrap which I had no idea that was on it... I'm shookish and very excited to see it in person now. I agree that the Unmaking of June Farrow was good. I didn't expect to love it as much as I did. It was a super fast read and couldn't put it down. The worst book for me was The Seeker, it was a DNF. The writing style just wasn't for me and the plot was lost. It was a constant mystery of what the MC was training for and I got tired of waiting for it. I honestly want someone else to read it to see if it was just me or was it really that frustrating. Most disappointing but I was chomping at the bit to read was The Familiar. It just wasn't what I expected. I just think she could have done more with the characters story and it fell flat for me. The series I plowed through in under a week was Stacia Stark's Kingdom of Lies series. The last book was relased this month and it gave me SJM ToG vibes (without the MC having a new love interest in each book) with the strong female characters and the alphahole mates and side characters. They are spicy though. The first book is a slow burn and then the rest of the books are 🌶🌶.

Yeah I remember you commenting about The Seeker when you DNFed it. The Familiar would have been most disappointing but I was expecting it to be different since it was listed as historical fiction so that saved me.
I'll check out Kingdom of Lies. I can deal with spice by just skipping over it when it gets boring
🤣 I mostly just hate spice because it goes on for PAGES or it's too often or it's written super poorly

So I have been reading more back list books. I have found that it has gotten me into a mood where I love reading again. Not saying new books are awful, but I feel like they are so rushed or they need to be heavily edited. I am hoping by the end of the year to try forth wing to see if I can be proven wrong but we will see

Yeah I really need to read more backlist books because this year really is a mess when it comes to new books.
I hope you LOVE fourth wing. Just don't take it too seriously and you might have a good time

As someone who ADORED A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder, which YA Thrillers do you think are better? Maybe I’ll get some good recommendations.

Oh gosh that's a lot of pressure 🤣 Some that I really enjoyed are (in no real order):
      1. The Naturals series by Jennifer Lynn Barnes
      2. None Shall Sleep by Ellie Marney
      3. The Mary Shelley Club by Goldy Moldavsky
      4. Queen of the Tiles by Hanna Alkaf
      5. My Dearest Darkest by Kayla Cottingham
      6. The Invocations by Kayla Cottingham (borders on horror)
      7. The Counselors by Jessica Goodman
      8. Their Vicious Games by Joelle Wellington
I really enjoyed Their Vicious Games, but don't take it too seriously. It's just a fun crazy thriller.
